Number 15 in my quest to visit and paint all of Maine's lighthouses: Seguin Island Light. Seguin Island is hard to get to being 2.5 miles off the Maine coast. I initially tried photographing it from the nearest accessible spot on the mainland, Popham Beach. Fortunately a friend with a boat offered to bring out to the island for more up close and personal reference photos. “Sylvia” 12x16 pastel pencil on Mi-Teintes board. It’s always bittersweet to make a posthumous pet portrait. It is very important to me that I capture the subject’s personality and provide the client with a beautiful memorial which I hope fills at least a little of the void left by a beloved family member’s departure. This sketch was done from one of the photos a client sent for a portrait commission. The client decided to use another photo for the portrait, which I posted earlier. That photo was better but I loved the expression on this one so much I did a small 5x7 drawing and included it as a bonus portrait.

"C" portrait commission, 8x10 pastel pencils on paper. The reference photograph supplied to me by the client was a little washed out by the sun but was still could enough to pull the essential details and capture the young man's friendly and happy appearance.
