Instead, he just kept smoothing his hair and wiping down his face. “But you did so well without me. I knew you would be okay in the end.” He pressed a kiss to his forehead. “I’m proud of you. You fought alone for so long. It’s okay to rest now.”
That voice. That praise… It must have been the mild stage of delirium that made his heart ache for it silently in his chest. The approval of a father.. Someone he had forgotten and lost. That same being he was desperately trying to fight for all this time. How many times had he died, had his heart ripped out, body broken, stabbed and possessed… Was he really even here? Was any of this for real…. or not?
“It’s not over…” he muttered through the fever, body shivering lightly as his breath seethed out between his teeth in a passive labor. “It’s never over..The world is broken. It needs to be whole…”
The Master had to laugh. He really had no idea, did he? The world wasn’t broken. It never would be. It knew how to fix itself every time something happened and everyone would be none the wiser.
“The world will be okay for a while.” He pressed a kiss to his son’s forehead and shook his head. “You need your rest. You can fix the world once you have your strength back.”
He stood up, walking across the room to pick up a book and sit back down on the edge of the bed. “Sleep. We can talk later if you’re still worried.”

The Master pressed a cool cloth to Luxu’s forehead. “Get some rest, kiddo. I’m not going anywhere.”
A deep sigh pressed out from his lips as a wave of hot exhaustion hit. The world swayed lightly, before his hand slipped down the right side of his face. The leather patch was enough to confirm it but… Gold eye closed, wearily.
If he had had another threat of grounding this week.. “You disappeared..” his voice weakly stated, breath no louder than a murmur.

He has tried to change the future before.
When he first learned he could see the future, the Master of Masters didn’t know the consequences and his mother as well as his name were lost because of it.
He saw his mother, the only one to raise him, die in an accident during one of his future vision bouts. He had seen her future before, but it was usually minor.
He wanted to change this.
So he did. He asked her to stay home that day to prevent her from dying of anaphylactic shock when she was given the wrong lunch at the blacksmith’s she worked at. He made her lunch instead.
The next morning, all of her possessions and her body were gone. Panicked, he had ran to their neighbors. Then he went to her coworkers. Then the police. No one had ever heard of her.
Or him, for that matter.
However, he wasn’t satisfied with just that. So he tried again, this time with a friend he had just made.
The same thing happened - they disappeared from this world.
He did this over and over and over again, each time learning that no matter what he did, no matter how little a change he made, someone disappeared.
From then on, he realized that it was his fault. He had gone against what he had seen and paid the price. If anyone was to go against their fate, the world would make the anomaly vanish so the timeline could continue as it had before without interference.
And so, to prevent anyone from ever finding out about what he did to learn of this consequence, he let himself disappear from the timeline. Not fully, no. Some people still remember a shade of who he was.
But eventually, those people passed on.
And the anomaly known only as the Master of Masters was finally gone.
