Pre - Whiplash - Feelings

Drama is probably one of my favorite movie genres, and conflict is interesting to me! This movie seems to have both! Ive enjoyed Miles Teller in his recent movies and also I seem to always enjoy a Mongrel media movie!

Post - Nymphomaniac Vol 1 & 2 - Thoughts

There was sex, there was nudity, there was love, there was hate, but there was also a good story. I really felt like the movie covered a good assortment of themes including - nymphomania (surprise), homosexuality, pedophilia, a sexuality/non sexuality, and BDSM from the top of my head. And I feel the way each of these were touched on were quite considerate and not over the top. The movie itself is quite a downer. There is not a whole lot of happy going on, so if that is not your thing this is probably not a movie for you! There were some things that I didn’t love, which is a given with anything really, but to name a few, I was disappointed with Seligman in the end.... like 100%. I wish that Joe was just a better human but she wasn't Bad, and if she was any different then the story would not be the same, but her character just made me roll my eyes a few times. But all in all, I liked the story, it wasn’t as porn-esque as I thought it might be, like there is lots of sex but it is not being filmed to get the audience riled up, its there to tell Joes story if that makes any sense. So if nudity and sexuality don’t scare you away I would definitely recommend giving it a watch! But maybe not the directors cut :/

I finished Nymphomaniac parts I & II!

It was one of the strangest journeys a film has taken me on. Everyone is terrified of these two (as I was) and I understand why. I have to warn anyone who is interested in watching it, that’s it’s very explicit– because it follows the life of someone who is in constant pursuit of sex, therefore it depicts sex VERY VERY VERY often.

However, it’s so brilliant and touching. I was sobbing through parts of Nymphomaniac as various characters enter and leave Joe’s life and she loses touch with herself.

This movie depicts sex often, but is not necessarily about sex. In the same way that a war movie is not necessarily about war. Charlotte Gainsbourg’s character, Joe, is a human being above all, and her honesty about the decisions she’s made in her life is astounding and real. I walked about from this movie feeling like I had sat there, intimately, and listened to her life story… Like she was my friend.

The ending of this two part masterpiece left my heart stained, ripped and broken. I’m really interested in talking with others about it (it’s actually killing me not to), so drop me a message if you’d like to discuss.
