I’m a lucky, lucky ducky. And I don’t plan to forget it. End scene.
For some reason, I thought I would be posting all kinds of stuff this week. Pice seen so many awesomely beautiful things, eaten so much amazing food (much of which has been prepared by our property chefs), and of course ... The wine! I'm practically limping with exhaustion, but I'm also medium sad that we've only got two more days left.
My views this week are tremendous. Sleep in a hotel room is still basically not happening, but I still made it up by 5:30am for a (meh ... decent) workout this morning. Tonight ... Sleep!
My views this week are tremendous. Sleep in a hotel room is still basically not happening, but I still made it up by 5:30am for a (meh ... decent) workout this morning. Tonight ... Sleep!
Hotel workout = Successful! Less successful was my night's sleep. Why are hotel rooms so damn hard to actually sleep in? Positive side to that is that I got an extra 20 mins to exercise because of it so ... Silver lining?
I'm on a work retreat (on boarding, education, and lotsa wine) all week, which is tricky. I want to enjoy the good stuff, without making myself feel awful. So I'm up early for a workout at the hotel (5:30am ... ugh) and am pre-breakfasting on coconut water and peas. (Yes. The peas are technically baby food, but you tell me another way I can get shelf-stable vegetables into my hotel room for a week, and I'm all ears. I thought it was clever ...)
Not gonna lie … I just did an “I’m a winner!” Dance all around my apartment over this. I EARNED ever damn step this month and it was awesome!
Winner winner winner winner winner winner …
Boom! Back of arm pride. Seriously. Look at those muskles! (Yes ... Muskles. They've earned it.)
Afternoon gym break! 32 consecutive push-ups (it's test day!) and a 30 minute run on the treadmill. What the serious heck? I'm suddenly doing all of the things! And doing them from the right head / heart space. Even better. 14 weeks to the wedding ... And I'm going to feel AH-mazing!
Maybe I bought some new tights. Maybe they have tigers on them. Maybe I just made up a dance to go with then. No biggie.
The month of February is almost over already. How the heck did that happen? I took a lot of walks. Enjoyed some early spring magnolias. Ate so many vegetables. Smiled more. Sweated more. I've been hecka quiet for the past few weeks, but only because work has been incredibly busy (in the best possible way), and wedding planning and life and all that jazz ... I didn't blog much, but in terms of my health, wellness, and fitness goals ... In February I hit my stride again. I'm eating well and eating enough to support my fitness goals. I'm exercising like mad -- because I need it to help with the stress and because I want to build muscle. And I'm not longer trying to hate and shame myself into a better body, but am coming at the whole thing from a place of curiosity and love. I'm not saying I have it all figured out, but I'm definitely a step or two closer than I was around the first of the year. Oh ... And I've only stepped on the scale once this month per plan. And having that little dread off the table, it's forced me to tune in better and form opinions about my health based on things that really matter. Tra-la!
It was snowing like mad and now it's blowing like mad. Nearly everything is closed because of the snow. The only things to do are eating and drinking ... And I'm bored out of my gourd. I might just get smashed to kill some time. Sucks. Portland romantic getaway weekend ... Day 2.
Portland weekend. It snowed just for us. But I hate snow so ... Fine. I took this picture while waiting for breakfast at Pine State Biscuit. Looks like flesh eating sunshine. Our flight got delayed, and we didn't get to bed until nearly 3am ... So I am nearly delirious. Day 1.
Her name is Lovely — and she and my French Bulldog, Fergus, are super best friends. (In spite of their 40-pound weight difference.) Photo evidence submitted. :) @someoneloved
So ... first fitting for the wedding dress was today. I have to confess that I was a ball of nerves leading up to it. I kept having visions of stuck zippers and extreme alterations necessary to sausage stuff me into a dress that didn't fit. I should have just calmed down. The dress fit perfectly. Like ... perfectly perfectly. Like ... the seamstress warned me that I shouldn't lose a bunch of weight, or it would cost more to alter it to a smaller size. "Don't lose a bunch of weight" were possibly the most magical words I've ever, ever, ever heard in my life.
A couple of things: 1) Apparently I'm an inch and a half taller than I thought I was. This is awesome information. Improved the heck out of my fitness metrics. Better than a diet. 2) My Super Bowl spread was divine. I don't even like football. I played Play Doh with a two-year-old most of the afternoon. Still ... awesomely awesome spreadk. 3) The bulldog is doing an impression of Damon five minutes after the game started. He is a Broncos fan. There wasn't much cheer in my house yesterday. Yikes. That is all.
February Goals
1,000 Push Ups. My fitty buddy and I are all geared up for the next challenge. So far we've done 1,000 burpees (in about 6 weeks) and 2,500 crunches. 1,000 push ups is the next logical step. (And one of us is wearing a strapless wedding dress in 4 months so ... bring on the upper body work!) Geneen Roth Course. I've been listening to an online course with Geneen Roth (Women, Food, and God) and am really enjoying it thus far and am enjoying how it's changing how I think about my relationship with food. I read the book a while back and really liked it, but ending with a big lump of to-dos without the weekly checkins, etc. made it a little less actionable. This course is meant to be more action focused. For example, this week the actions steps are to "eat when you're hungry (at least some of the time)" and to "remember to be in awe of what you already have." I can already feel little shifts happening. For example, yesterday, I was on my way to meet Damon for dinner. We had early reservations, but I had eaten a late (small) lunch and found myself hungrier than usual while I was en route. Usually this would cause an outright panic. But this time, I just noticed it. What does hunger feel like? Where do I feel it? How long does it last? Turns out, there was a little moment of tummy rumbling and a high-frequency panicky feeling ... and then it went away. I was uncomfortable for a moment ... and then I was just fine. Being hungry isn't the end of the world. (Goodness ... if I can learn that one thing, the whole course will be worth it!) Walk the Walk As of this morning, I have walked 636,425 steps in the month of January (according to my FitBit). My February goal -- with only 28 days to work in!! -- is to hit 650,000 steps. I can absolutely do this. (And I'm not going to make running an explicit goal this month, but running a bit here and there will help me log more steps more quickly. So ... I'll just file that away as knowledge.) Scale-Free February: I am restricting my use of the scale in February to one weigh-in mid month. The scale is telling such a small part of mhy story these days that I want to get a little distance. And if I'm doing all of the other things -- tracking food, eating when I'm hungry, getting in movement and exercise -- the scale won't matter. And to make things a little more interesting this month, if I meet all of my goals, I'm going to gift myself an Aria scale from FitBit (which tracks body fat percentage, as well as weight).
