You make it sound like you expected all the hate to magically disappear.
I expected people to learn from their mistakes.
Hard to believe...
Humans never really change, not entirely. Give it another century or two, you’ll see that it’s really all the same with a shinier coat of paint. What did you escape, exactly?
The Holocaust, specifically Auschwitz. I'm thinking that even the shiniest coat of pain cannot cover the hurt I still feel, and what is still inflicted.
Hard to believe...
Nice to meet you, Donovan. It’s been awhile since I’ve come across a centaur.
It is nice to meet you as well, Noah. I have not come across many in my own travels, though I have found demi gods near and far.
Hard to believe...
"Oh there’s somethin’ we can do ‘bout it for sure. All the worlds greatest criminals got stopped eventually. I jus’ think that askin’ for world peace or somethin’ is a bit far fetched."
"I personally don't think so, ma'am."
Hard to believe...
Confused? What are you? My mom’s one of the fates and she’s A LOT older then that, trust me
I'm a centaur. You are a demi god then, yes?
Hard to believe...
Yeah. And the heroes usually win, too.
Which is the good part.
Hard to believe...

We're pretty rare! A lot of us have died in wars, human and supernatural.
Hard to believe...
I don’t—I don’t mean to be rude or insensitive or anything, because I understand that it’s a very personal subject for you, but, uh… In my experience, I guess, one bad guy being stopped doesn’t stop all of them. Like, in the comic books, there’s always someone new for the superheroes to battle even though they’ve defeated a bunch of villains before, and I know that’s all just made up, but, I mean… It’s the most realistic part of the books.
... I suppose you're right. The villains will always come back, but so will the heroes.
Hard to believe...
Yeah, you’re right. I guess we do.
-holds his hand out suddenly- Noah Bridges, demi-god and World War One veteran.
-takes his hand and shakes it- Donovan Brayer, centaur and Holocaust survivor.
Hard to believe...
Yeah, trust me, I know. It sucks, but after fighting a war and having nothing come of it other than a bunch of dead people and a bunch of scars and another goddamn war, I decided it wasn’t worth it to try and stop anything.
I lived through the most hellish war across the world... I think we both understand it.
Hard to believe...
We do, though. There are museums and monuments and memorials and movies and comics and everything…
There are still people killing each other incessantly. Have you see the war in Israel?
Hard to believe...
Look, man, the world’s gonna do what the world’s gonna do. Even if someone found a way to stop the next genocide or whatever, it would just happen some other time in some other way. There’s always going to be bad people and death and war and hate, no matter what anyone does about it. We can’t stop it, so you just have to learn to live with it.
I guess you are right, kid... It is an awful thing, though.
Hard to believe...
Oh, I’m not—that’s not what I’m saying! You don’t have to live like that if you don’t want to. I just… Do, I guess. Personally. I dunno, never mind me.
No, no... It is the fact that I lived through the holocaust and it is like we have nothing to show for it.
Hard to believe...
-quietly- I don’t have a lot of hope for it.
People keep telling me that's the way to live...
Hard to believe...
"Mmm, keyword bein’ nearly. Look, I sympathise wit’ you an’all but not to the extent in which you’d hope a person would. You can believe what you want but it sure as hell ain’t gonna change my views."
"That is a terrible way to look at it, as though there's nothing we can do about any of it."
Hard to believe...
The world won’t ever get any better, man. It sucks, but you just gotta get used to it.
Then we're all supposed to sit here and wait for another genocide?
