(Alexis Hall Boyfriend Material)
A24 is making a TV series version of Alexis Hall book 'Boyfriend Material', which preceded 'Husband Material' and 'Father Material'.
A24? Interesting!
Omg??????????????

Random thoughts nobody asked for or cares about regarding Boyfriend Material being optioned for a TV series:
Yeah, I'm a Londoner and I've read the book, so I think I can say a thing or two about it.
Alexis Hall has a rather curious writing style. You can definitely pick up on a lot of British slang and expressions in the book, and I think that adds a nice touch. However, from what I've heard, his style isnât to everyone's taste.
I like this story; it is not about coming out, but about falling in love, being vulnerable, and exploring all these second guesses of your own worth when dating someone.
Lucien and Oliver are somehow likeable characters, and they develop nicely throughout the story, so itâd be cool to see that on screen. Still, I hope they work on the plot because itâs got a really good core idea, but some parts of the book feel kind of empty or fake.
The tropes⊠well, the fake dating is almost never actually fake. There's none of the longing, miscommunication, or hidden feelings you might expect. And the enemies-to-lovers thing boils down to one person being a total jerk to the other, who just puts up with it. Even in some parts, the romance hardly feels real, tbh.
I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, but if they approve a second season, the entire Husband Material storyâ which clearly borrows almost everything from Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)âwill need a complete overhaul. Again, the core idea is solid, and the discussion about marriage not becoming a indispensable next step in a relationship makes sense; however, the way it's executed could definitely use some improvement.
The third book, Father Material, is set to be released this summer. Let's see what it has in store.
WHAT IS HAPPENING
sapphic Moby Dick in space??? by my favorite* romance author????? heLLO are you writing specifically for me now orrrr
Gotta love how Tal Bauer and Alexis Hall are like "You don't get to see my face, know my gender or even my real name. But here, have this super entertaining and sometimes heartbreaking queer novels for your reading pleasure."
oh look it's time for my 5th reread of 10 Things That Never Happened
Listening to Pansies by Alexis Hall and needing to pause because I canât handle the secondhand embarrassment of Alfie trying (and failing) to fix Fenâs shower railing.
oh but that scene is hilarious!!!!
I'm loving boyfriend material so far
boyfriend material is one of the funniest books I have ever listened to or read Iâm screaming
i haven't stopped thinking about pansies. that book was SO good
finished reading boyfriend material and i can't stop thinking about christopher saying that oliver in the past has chosen his boyfriends based on whether he thinks their parents would approve of them and how that naturally extends to his friends as well
Because there's something so very pointed about the fact that he so perfectly fits the "non-threatening gay" stereotype, and the fact he doesn't have any gay friends.
Moodboard: luc & oliver
âwhat are you eating? it looks like spunk with fruit in it.â âthank you lucian. you always know exactly what to say.â
