âI donât like being left in the dark. And I donât like feeling like an idiot when someone changes the story around on me.â
The amusement faded from Cobbâs face. âIs that what you think Iâm doing?â
âFuck. Maybe. I donât know.â Frustrated, Din gave a huff and couldnât decide whether he wanted Cobb to get off him or stay exactly where he was. He lifted his gaze to Cobbâs chin but no higher. âItâs pretty hypocritical that youâve accused me of not talking enough when youâve told me even less about whatâs going on with you.â
âI am often a hypocrite,â Cobb agreed. Din couldnât begin to parse his tone. It wasnât sarcasm.
He paused. Hesitating. Cobb waited him out until eventually Din ventured, âIs that actually the case, or is it because Iâve had my head shoved too far up my own ass to notice?â
âWhoa, hey. Thatâs not it,â answered Cobb. âOr if you have, it was for a good reason. A very good reason.â He said it automatically, with certainty, but then he fell silent too. Long fingers tangled through Dinâs curls after a second, gripping slightly. Din still wouldnât look at him directly. In his peripheral vision, however, he could see Cobb weighing his words carefully. âI talk a lot of bullshit, Din. I wonât say I donât like hearinâ myself speak, but ninety percent of the time, itâs just talk. You know?â
