As I sit at the airport, I cannot stop tearing up. I have had such an incredible summer with the @lawyerscomm and my fellow interns. It's hard to believe I'm leaving DC. This summer, for the first time in months, I allowed myself to take a break. About two weeks into being in DC, I realized I hadn't once taken a moment to enjoy the city. I was too stressed out about work and my organization to think about anything else. I made the decision to pause my non-profit work for a few weeks and I spent the summer focusing on my internship and falling in love with this beautiful city. I had forgotten what it was like to laugh openly, smile fully, and feel completely relaxed. This summer reminded me of all of that, and it reminded me to enjoy life and be present. It's important to do great work. It's important to work to make change. It's also important, though, to love yourself & take breaks. Investing in yourself is honestly the best thing you can do for both yourself and your work. Can't believe that this summer is quickly coming to a close. It has been such an incredible experience! Yesterday was my last day of work and it marked five years of me going without my wig. It felt like such a special day & I couldn't help but smile through it all- so glad I got to spend it with these two wonderful people 😘

Five years ago on this day, I went without my wig and thought it was the best and bravest thing I would ever do. Today, looking back, there was so much more to life than I realized at the time. I guess it just goes to show that challenges can seem completely consuming... But you learn to move forward and become a better person because of it. Over the last few months, the StateFarm Youth Advisory Board has been reading countless grant proposals for service-learning initiatives around the country. After 34 hours of grant presentations and difficult decisions, we have officially funded 4 million dollars of youth-led service-learning initiatives around the nation. My heart is so full because so much important work will be done with this money & so many young lives will be impacted. Thank you to my YAB family for making this weekend so special ❤️
