Choi Sulli is one of my biases in f(x) back in the day when they are still OT5. Today, she died. Upon seeing the headlines of her death in almost every site online, I still can’t believe it happened. It was so fast. She’s so young. She suffered online bashing and trolling since 2014. As far as I remember, it was when hatred and bullying becomes too much when she dated Choiza. Then she started posting weird stuff on her Instagram that makes her haters even more furious. There are concerned fans but she gained more haters than ever. However, she stands strong. She still lived the way she wants to live. It’s nice that even after leaving her group and gained a lot of haters she still has a good career. But weird uploads are still there (eg. no bra pics, panty posts). Then I heard no news of her because I’ve been too busy with my own life. Never thought that the next news I would be hearing from her is her death. She’s almost perfect. She’s one of the prettiest and beautiful faces in South Korea. She has a beautiful career, she can do what she really wants, she has the body, everything. But she’s sad. Because even though she knows she’s loved by her loyal fans, she can’t deny the fact that she can only have few people in her real life, she needs love. True love from people whom she can call friends. All of us just want to be loved. And yet, she can’t because of the bad light the media and haters have given to her. Whatever she does, she’s always bad, she’s not enough. And today she gave up. Maybe she’s so tired of everything. She reached her limit and that’s it, she shuts her life to everyone forever, including those who truly love her. We will miss you Sulli and your beautiful smile. It’s just sad that your voice won’t be heard any longer. We won’t see you smile any longer. P.S, Sulli you have the most beautiful smile for me, and I dreamt of becoming as beautiful as you back in the day. I will miss you! -14th of October.

I don't get it why people think negatively towards themselves and if you start to talk to them in a very honest form they get mad. I just don’t get it. I felt bad about myself by telling something straight to their faces the same thing they always rant about themselves. Why so complicated.

University Tips:

Keep a planner

Keep a calendar

Look at them often

Check emails often

Look over the syllabus for each class before and after the class, or just on the weekend and mark assignments and tests in your planner/calendar

Sit in the front row of class. You’ll pay more attention and your profs will remember your face

Never miss class

Visit your professors’ office hours. Monthly [if not weekly]. No matter how scary they might seem, they are on your side and want you to succeed. 

Do readings and such before class. Review your notes before and after each class. 

Have a dedicated study time and place. Use it only for studying and have everything you need with you. Turn off your phone and your wifi if possible when studying. 

Keep lists. Write down your priorities, shopping lists, deadlines, things you want to be involved in. 

GPA doesn’t matter as much as you think it does. But, it matters a lot when it’s low, because GPA is an indicator of hard work, not intelligence. Employers want to see that you work hard. 

Students who claimed not to study and still got an A lied or cheated. Period.

Not everyone parties like in the movies. Seriously. 

You don’t have classes 8 hours a day, but you should still be putting in that much work every day. For every hour of class, spend .5-3 hours outside of class studying. It varies widely, find what works for you. 

Take handwritten notes in class. 

Make use of your resources. Office hours? Go to them. Supplemental Instruction? Go to it. Tutoring? Take advantage of it. Study groups? Yes. Learning communities? Join them.

Keep your stuff organized [computer files, folders, notebooks, desk, etc.]

If you’re the type to procrastinate a lot, it might help to be more involved so that you’re forced to work during your down time. 

Your desk is only for studying. Keep clutter and decorations to a minimum. 

Sleep. 7-9 hours each night. You’ll be more productive and actually remember the stuff you’re paying thousands of dollars to learn.

Keep a list of goals, priorities, motivations, accomplishments, etc. 

Go to counselling services. Anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem are the top three things that will KILL your grades. 

Take care of yourself. Wash your hands, take vitamins, sleep, and drink water. Being sick or overworked will kill your productivity. 

The university will pressure you to find a career, internship, etc. Explore your options. Relax. You don’t have to have your whole life figured out RIGHT NOW. Instead, use the resources they give you to help you explore and develop yourself. 

Have friends and a support network. Live on or near campus. The more you feel a sense of belonging, the more likely you are to succeed academically and graduate.

I'm in the last year of my university life and currently finishing my senior's project. Recently, I just realized how bad I am when it comes to savings, time management, and healthy living. So I've decided to change my current lifestyle.  Below is the list I've made to remind me of the not-so-good things I'm guilty doing of and how to resolve them.

1. I spent most of my time on online shopping sites.

Most of the time, I ended up browsing on online shopping sites and spent my whole day looking for items like clothes and skin care products. The downside is I would be spending my savings and ruin my weekly budget for buying items I don't need. Aside from that, I wasted my time doing online shopping instead of doing my research. I'm really good when it comes to making poor life choices.

 What I Can Do:

Create a daily schedule for my research project (since I don't have any), a list of the things I need to do (for the project) and indicate the number of hours allotted for it. I can use my remaining free hours to rest and surf the internet. I can visit my social media accounts but refrain from visiting shopping sites. This one is really hard, but the key here is self-discipline.  

2. I don't keep track of my weekly budget.

When it comes to keeping track of my money, I'd sure be getting an F grade for this. I overspent my allowance and used up all my savings at once. I blame myself for being such an impulsive buyer. Whenever I see cute things, I'd buy it. 

What I Can Do:

I just made a weekly budget plan for the coming week. I realized how important it is to budget and keep track of your money. I'm happy to see how much money I should be spending for the whole week and how much I'd be saving if I successfully followed the plan. 

3. My diet will kill me.

Yes, it will. I'm living in a dormitory where cooking food is not allowed. They only provide us hot water and access to their refrigerator. Most of the time, I'd be cooking instant ramen or oats and eat food outside (school cafeteria or fast food resto). Eating healthy food outside is quite expensive,  it's cheaper to make your own food (but again, it’s very unhealthy).

What I Can Do:

Along with my weekly budget plan, I also created my weekly meal plan. It's a list of the food I'm going to eat from breakfast to dinner. Since eating outside is quite expensive, I made sure to list the food I can eat outside that are way cheaper.

This list will serve as my reminder and small step in improving my life choices. I'm already on my 20's and its very important that I know how to be wise and practical when it comes to self-care, money matters, time management, and productivity. I'm looking forward to the days to come.

how to save and make money as a student

making money

tutoring! one of the easiest to make good money in limited time! you don’t have to make home calls if you sign up to an online tutoring agency and tutor over skype

sell your old clothes. to friends/classmates or online (eBay or depop are my favourite platforms)

sell your old notes. this is easily done online and a good way to make a little extra cash

sell your skills. sites like etsy and redbubble are good places to make money off your creative talents

saving money

save £1378 in a year with my free printable

make coffee and tea at home. those daily £3 coffees add up quickly

take your own mug to coffee shops. if you can’t resist the temptation of a coffee shop coffee take your own mug. pret a manger gives you a 50p discount if you bring your own mug and caffe nero gives you double stamps

don’t carry money with you all the time. this will just make you tempted to spend

never buy another bottle of water. carry a reusable bottle with you, bottled water is very very overpriced considering most cafes will refill your bottle for free

don’t use apple pay. if you always have access to money you’ll be much more tempted to go into that shop and buy the top you passed in the window

food prep! carry snacks and a packed lunch with you to avoid pricey snack bars and ready meals. this is also an easy way to be healthier

home cook. this is always cheaper than eating out and 99% of the time cheaper than pot noodles/ramen. home cooking is even more affordable if you do it in bulk or with friends

borrow and download free ebooks and audiobooks as much as possible

make good use of the library. instead of buying books borrow them for free, a library membership is often free if you belong to a university/college but a membership is still often cheaper than buying lots of books if you’re a big reader

bring reusable bags to avoid paying for plastic bags and be kinder to the environment.

go paperless. avoid printing costs and look after the environment

cut your own hair. going to the hairdressers is expensive and can be saved as a treat but if you just need to trim your split ends there’s no reason why you shouldn’t do it yourself or get a friend to help you

pre drink! if you are going out then drink alcohol at home it’s much cheaper than buying it in pubs or bars

use cash. it’s much easier to avoid spending money and stick to your budget when you can see exactly how much you have 

keep track of your saving and spending. i love the ‘pocket expense’ app. this will also show you what things you are overspending on 

collect coupons and loyalty cards. points make prizes!

create a culture of clothes borrowing among your friends. instead of always buying new things for events

I guess I will be taken to prison by Chinese government one day, because of this art I drew, or the things I said.

I am from Hong Kong. As you may not know, this is a special administration region of China. We (still) have our own legal system, and freedom of speech, that’s why I can access to everywhere in the internet without censorship (I get ask a lot). Recently, over a million of people are protesting against the Extradition Law. It was an extremely-almost-impossible fight and many students are injured horribly by the police force. I WAS THERE.

If the extradition law is passed, which means that China can “took” anyone from Hong Kong back to China as “prisoners”. Oh you don’t wanna know what China will do to those innocent people …

The government is forcing the law on us. We couldn’t do this on our own. We need more attention from other countries. Please spread this message out.

things to do on sundays to recharge and make the upcoming week awesome

• clean ya room (just do it). also, check those pinterest boards you save for “one day” and actually go through them and draw some inspiration, even if you just end up rearranging the books on your bookshelf or put some flowers from your garden in a mason jar on your desk. this is your home, make it feel like it is.

• do your laundry (also, don’t forget your bed sheets). if you’re in the mood, look at next week’s weather forecast and think about what you’re going to wear. go through your drawers, check the back of your closet. that hat you bought some time ago and forgot about because you didn’t dare to wear it? well… new week, new you, right? 

• call a friend/family member you haven’t talked to in a while, tell them you miss them. tell them you love them. remember and appreciate that they are a part of your life even if it doesn’t feel like it all the time.

• draw, paint, journal, write or make some music. something you know you love doing but “never find the time”. sunday is “finding-the-time day”. if you’re not feeling creative, read a book or watch your favorite show. or watch a new show. a scary show. a funny show. laugh as loud as you want. listen to music. listen to your favorite songs, or listen to new songs. even a new genre if you dare. turn the volume all the way up. take a second to consciously feel the music. you can always get up and dance. or sing. or both.

• the great, but still really effective classic: take a bath or a really long shower. if you have this special face or hair mask you’re saving up for a special occasion: congrats, you’re the special occasion today. use it. also, body lotion. we all know you’re going to be running late during the week and skip it one too many times. make yourself feel like the goddess you are. 

• sit in silence for a few moments. listen to your breath. listen to your heartbeat. for the love of god PLEASE listen to your thoughts for once in your life. don’t make them feel like they are wrong. or bothersome. they too just want to be heard once in a while. what are they trying to tell you? what could be soothing for them? be compassionate to yourself. it’s okay. you are okay. you are okay.

• think about things you can be grateful for next week. even if you feel like your life sucks atm, think about the small things you take for granted in a different way. for example: “next week, i will have access to clean water. CLEAN. WATER. 844 million people don’t have that.” or “next week, my legs will take me wherever i want to go. not everybody has two fully functioning legs, so i’m lucky in that way.” you’re allowed to feel bad about your life, but you’re also allowed to feel good about things. 

• if you’ve stayed home most of the week, go out. go for a walk. go swimming. go to a party or dinner with friends. even if you feel like you don’t need to see the outside world, chances are you’ll feel great after you do. if you feel like you’ve been running around all week, maybe you’d like to stay home today. put on your ugliest sweater, comfiest leggings, and fluffiest socks and curl up under a thousand blankets. you a sloth today and it’s okay. 

• eat. i mean honestly: eat THE THING. i don’t care if you’re on a diet. if there’s something you’ve been craving all week that has turned you into the veiny-neck-dude meme just trying to resist it: EAT IT. you deserve it. not because you worked out or ate salads or did well in school, but just because you’re a human and you love to eat and life is short and you should be allowed to eat yummy things. it’s okay. you won’t gain 5 pounds or lose your brain cells no matter how unhealthy it is, i promise.

• plan plan plan yo week. it doesn’t matter if you use a planner, bullet journal, the calendar on your phone or the notes app: write everything down you have going on next week. appointments. events. coffee-dates. when are you going to the gym? what are you going to eat? (meal prep if necessary) also, create reminders on your phone for everything. “i won’t forget it!” is a sweet thought, but oh honey you will. schedule reminders for every event. let your phone remind you that you need to buy toilet paper when the store is nearby. schedule daily reminders for your medications. (once you’ve done this it honestly feels like you just cleaned out 38GB of your brain, you simply don’t have to worry about that anymore, space for more important info, like your new favorite pun to annoy everyone with)

• most importantly: listen to what your mind and your body need today and next week. daily life is so full of “should-do”s that it’s important to find a healthy balance between the “should”s and the “need”s. you will be much more productive, healthy and happy that way. nobody knows you better than you do, take advantage of that and plan accordingly.

Small Ways To Improve Your Life

make your bed to immediately make your room look more put together

A reminder that turning in assignments for partial credit is better than not turning them in at all. It is. Even if you think you’ve done a bad job and are ashamed of your work, or it’s way overdue, you take whatever you can get. Partial credit dramatically improves your grade over a zero, and I’m always astounded by how often even the smartest kids don’t really comprehend that. 60% is worlds better than 0%. Even 10% is going to help you. Letter grades are misleading and are not created equal. “F"s are mathematically valuable. Turn that late assignment in.

This goes for so many things in life tbh.

Can’t pay the full amount you owe on a bill? Pay as much as you can each month. Most places just wanna know you’re making a good faith effort. You can usually even call and ask for a smaller minimum monthly payment plan until you catch up, so that maybe you won’t be getting late fees added on to your balance. It’s worth calling to see. 

Third time you’ve had to reschedule that doctor’s appointment? Oh well. Your doc probably just wants to make sure you make it in to their office at all. Keep trying.

Half-assing is always better than no-assing folks. I know lots of us are anxiety-ridden perfectionists and it feels like if we can’t do everything exactly right on the first try we just shouldn’t bother. But that’s not true. 

My mom likes to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly” to emphasize that it’s okay to enjoy doing things even if you’re not good at them. The point is doing them. Make that shitty art project that makes you happy. Learn that new skill even if you suck at it at first. Make it to under half of the events of that club or organization you want to be a part of but can’t fully commit to. It’s okay. You don’t have to do it perfectly to do it at all.
