Dragon(s) and Hailstone(s)…..
my cousin has cerebral palsy and it’s kinda disappointing that although his mums side of the family (me included) encouraged him to do things, we never pushed him to (and past) his limit, which sometimes you need to.
his dad+step-mum just started taking him jogging/running so he does a 5k parkrun weekly, and i’m hella proud of him because doctors said he’d never walk, talk, or live past 18, yet he’s 20 this year, walking, talking, and now jogging 5k more than me a week!!!

Running.
My sprint finish in my first Parkrun (the one in the black).
I have never thought of myself as a runner, I have always been chubby and slow and in the school days I didn’t want to run even in front of the athletic kids who were in my class. So I inevitably remained chubby and slow and that is okay. Never the less the last couple of years I have been slowly getting into fitness more and more. I even lost some weight from doing it a couple of times. However in December 2015 my sister asked me if I wanted to do a 5k run with her on Christmas Day…. I said yes.
I had been talking about doing one of these couch to 5k apps but only got as far as downloading the app. This was my motivation to get going, to my delight I did the first run using the app and I realised I was more capable then I thought. After that I took their principles and adapted it to suit my fitness level.
Christmas Day came…. I did not do the 5k, wanting to enjoy the morning with my fella before he left to see his own family.
But Boxing day came… and I did my first ever Parkrun and 5k. Up to that point I had only completed a run around 2 miles long with interval training. So it was tough but I started it so I finished it as a continuous run. The following week I did it again and shaved off 1min 30 secs off my time.
I realised quickly anyone can be a runner, and running will always be tough just the fast you get the less time you have to put the same effort it.
In January I came to the Philippines and even here where it is boiling hot I have tried to keep up running every now and again. Though I don’t think I have ever got so sweaty in my life, despite running in the evening when it is coolest.
#parkrun run with the sis! (at Dinton Pastures Country Park)
did parkrun today! Its a 5k run every saturday (they have them all over the country here!) ran it in 27 mins today woo! thats only my second one too! My first one was 37 mins!
Almost forgot!
Today was parkrun day!
41:27 seconds. I’ve been aiming for under 45mins and now I seem to be consistently under 42 minutes so there’s a massive improvement there.
I like to think that the weight loss has something to do with it. Easier to run without that half stone!
Parkrun at Parke Estate in Bovey Tracey with @gracemcdonnell equally as pretty as it was muddy #running #parkrun #devon #fitness (at Parke Estate, Bovey Tracey)
Brockwell Parkrun. Over 350 people were there. I love this community.
Week 5 - parkrun Saturday
Saturday is my usual run to parkrun and back again. Â The plan today was a mile warm up run down there and a gentle run in around 28-29 minutes and a mile cool down run home.
On waking up it was a little wetter than usual and although my daughter had said she was going to come with me she decided to sit this one out. Â So I went off on my own to meet up with thee 200+ other runners to splash our way around the local park.
When I got there we all head around to the start and stand around catching up with friends before the ritual run brief begins and we all listen as names are called out to celebrate various parkrun achievements.
Listening to parkrun brief
After the run brief we were off and heading to the first corner and the start of the 2 2/3 laps that make up the 5k route.
As expected the route was quite wet in places but that is not likely to slow most of us down as it is common place at this time of the year and all part of the fun of parkrun.
At the end of the run I finished with a time of 26:26 which although not quick was quicker than the plan called for.
Afterwards our club runs a monthly training session for 7-10 year old runners and I stayed behind to help were needed. Â When that finished it was the one mile run home to complete my 5.1 mile run for today with an overall time of 44:50.
