I'll be the mistake you make at 3 am One day when you've gotten home half way around the globe and you've settled into bed with a bottle on your night stand. I'll be the one you never made but would've if you had lingered a little longer on the front porch of maybe to find a door way unmatched unlocked that said yes I will. I'll be the forever forgotten lily you'll color white over and drop into a basin. You'll wait for me to rot but I'll stay fresh and clean and white with a little blue right at the bottom of the tub. I'll be the girl with one eye open at night because she's got a bottle of confusion and frustration tied tight to her bed side table. The left side. Where you left here lingering. Only you asked if I'd get in okay instead of the kind of okay that would've been if you'd held me in your arms and placed your chin on top of my lonesome head. I'll be the one who remembers that. And to you I'll be a drift away memory like wood on the ocean. And some day I'll float to your side of the sea and you may pick me up to play with for a while before reminding yourself you're too old for toys and toying.
