Day 13: I have been busy. With the stone I’ve quarried and some of the timber I have cut down, I have begun work on my new home. I have much work to do, but I thought it important to make note of these recent developments.
Day 9: I have conquered my immediate surroundings. Confidence fills me and my ambition itches at a nerve deep within me that can only be scratched by the footsteps of exploration.
With the first light of day I packed my bags and swiftly set out across the desert. The pyramid I had first seen so many days ago lay before me. The desert heat rising off the sands seemed to make the curious structure write with life.
At first, it was not obvious how to enter. The main entrance faced out at the ocean and there was no walkway to access it. I walked around the base of the structure, looking for any additional entries. While contemplating crafting a raft I noticed an opening on the west face and scaled the steep steps of the pyramid to peak inside.
Whoever built this place clearly tried to leave a message on the walls. I can see patterns and shapes, but I do not know what they mean. Perhaps they were a greeting? Down below I found a pattern on the floor. It was a mosaic of stone slabs that appeared to represent a flower. At its center lay a single purple slab indicating... what? The nectar? Ah yes! The nectar. I realized I may have found a place of hidden treasure.
I began digging around the center, curious to see what lay underneath. As the stone gave way, I could feel the ground shift. I scurried back and the hole I had managed to pick open quickly grew to nearly the size of the whole flower. I had nearly been swallowed up by a deadly trap. As I gathered my thoughts I heard a boom from deep under the Pyramid. A cloud of dust and ash belched up from the gaping maw. I realized with terror that perhaps I had awoken something, some monstrosity tasked with protecting this place. I decided that I should not stick around to find out.
I scrambled to collect my things and fled from the accursed ruin as fast is my legs could take me. Across the desert heat and back to my home I ran, never once looking back. I learned a valuable lesson today. You can’t find heaven by digging up the demons of the past. For now, I live another day.
Day 8: Though the population of sheep and swine in these lands is plentiful, I know that they are a limited resource. If I hope to continue having meat on the menu, I will need to cultivate the animals as livestock. I also realize that expanding my diet to include other foods might be a good idea. I have tried my hand at farming the tall grasses. Their seed is rough to to eat but hearty. Perhaps I can ground it down into a powder for easier consumption. I will have to experiment. For now, I am proud of the work I have accomplished.
Day 7: I’m alive. Underground there is no concept of day or night. As I chipped away at the walls of the world the only sense of day or night was the placement of torches and the eat of rations. I believe it has been 2 days since I began my ventures under the earth. I have made great progress, pulling up ores and minerals that I intend to make use of. I have built a forge and in the coming days I intend to build new tools to help me in quest. For now, I will take a well deserved nap and dream of the sky.
Day 5: I realize that in order to shape these lands I will need the tools to get the job done. I have opened up the ground beneath my feet. I feel like a mouse burrowing in to the belly of the giant. What treasures will I find, what dangers will come upon me. My pick axe in one hand and my lamp in the other, I venture down into the world below. If this is the last thing written in my journal, there is a good chance I am dead. I have no regrets, only ambition at this point. If I die, it will be in pursuit of a noble enterprise.
Day 4: Today I decided to hike around the base of the mountain. As I surveyed the giant spire of stone and dirt jutting out of a mostly flat land I considered what I might call this place. As the day progressed I discovered that the mountain is not one peak, but three. Three distinct mountains sitting close to one another. I also find out that three different lands border these mountains. On one side, the desert stretches out towards the pyramid in the distance. On another the humid plains that I first awoke in dominate the land. And on another side the mountains drop off and become a collection of smaller stone hills rippling through the land beyond sight. I have decided to call this place the Trinity Peaks. Even as I write these words I feel a wave of goosebumps overtake me. I feel a sense of ownership now. Though, you can’t truly own the land. Still, I know this land. I live off of it. It is mine to shape. And it is mine to protect.
Day 3: As I gathered wood for the furnace I saw a pyramid across the bay. The first signs that I might not be alone in this land. I will have to venture out in the coming weeks to see if I can find potential neighbors or even allies. The sight of the man made structure gives me encouragement. I am not alone. Someone else has survived these lands and left a monument as a testament. I only hope that I may do the same before the final night takes me.
Day 2: Pigs are not the foulest creatures that inhabits this land. Last night, as I lay my head down to rest I heard the groans of some... beast. The pitch black of night hid it from my sight but I knew that I was not alone out in that wilderness. All through the night I built up a wall to cover my shallow cave. At the entrance I erected a door hidden behind natural forming columns and then placed heavy stones in front of it as an added measure precaution. When morning dawned I ventured out carefully to see if the creature still lingered nearby. There was no signs of the beast that had robbed me of my sleep. I don’t know if it shall come again tonight, but if it does, I will be ready for it.
Day 1: I awaken to a new world. The Sun greets me from across the sea. Behind me a mountain reaches into the sky, it’s peak lost in the clouds. I dig out a shallow cave nearby and settle in for the night. As Sleep overtakes me I think about the mountain, how it calls to me. The gentle rumbling voice of an ancient giant telling me to climb atop its back and see the world. Tomorrow, I will venture out to see what these lands have to offer.
