She never expected to be huddled in the kitchen having an emergency meeting with Tim hidden behind a tea towel today.

But that's exactly where they've found themselves.

"You invited your ex over?" Lucy hisses, glancing at the blonde sitting in the lounge with a cup of tea.

"No I didn't invite her, she just showed up!" Tim hisses back, and Lucy eyes him with exasperation.

"Well, why did you let her in then?"

"What was I supposed to do, slam the door in her face?"

Lucy gives him a long suffering look, but before she can reply she sees the woman looking around, obviously wondering where on earth they've disappeared to for so long.

"You have to go back out there," she says, shoving Tim towards the lounge.

"What? Me?"

"She's your ex. I'm not handling this for you."

"What if she hits on me?"

"What if she hits on me?"

Tim rolls his eyes and glares at her, before he takes a deep breath and pastes on a very disturbing smile before he walks awkwardly over and sits as far away from the woman as he possibly can whilst being in the same room.

Lucy hides a smile, and she's already planning to rescue him eventually, but it doesn't mean she can't watch him squirm for a while.

It's the least he deserves, she thinks. For all the time he wasted pretending with these other people before realising what was already right under his nose.

Well hello friends I'm loosely back following Chenford but I honestly feel like I'm missing an entire season of episodes, because I still cannot figure out how they have been yanked from the mess that was S4 and plonked into full on dating.

For context, I did a whizz through the rest of S4 (from when I gave up watching it live) and the first half of S5. I skipped a bunch of Nolan. But I'm mystified as to how and when any Chenford feelings were supposed to begin. The narrative doesn't actually lay any groundwork.

They just sort of declare for each other in episode 9 without any real lead in, from what I can see. Still can't fathom what the point in their respective other partners was since they appear not to have ever had a tense conversation about their suspected feelings for one another (etc etc).

So I'm baffled, what's everyone else thinking about this?

Does anyone else find Tom Parker to be such an infuriating, boring, bleeding idiot that you’re actively rooting for his death, or is it just me? Why is his top hat so ridiculously tall? Hmm I think Sanditon is now cheesy in a way it didn't use to be. It doesn't really feel like the same show. More Downton Abbey than Austen.

Colbourne and Charlotte is nice enough, probably shippable if you don't come into it missing Sidlotte.

But I'd say there's too much noise and silliness, now. The first season had a quiet gravity about it. It was much more focused. This is sort of all over the place, with too many characters and too many contrived plots shoved in.

It really is "spot the trope" season.

I'm not saying it's not an enjoyable show. I'll probably watch the remainder. But this isn't something that's going to leave a mark the way the first season did.

It's a shame.
