ㅤ ㅤ ㅤZACHARY NEVER REALLY KNEW WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO HOLD BIG BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS. there was never much commotion around them, the lack of friends and money being the root of his usually lonesome and depressing birthdays. quiet evenings spent with his brother, eating sheet cake, going fishing, calm and quiet and good, safe. his life like a puddle ; little by little, drop by drop it filled out more. miro, the band, poppy, her family . . . like raindrops turning a pond into a lake, vast and beautiful and blooming with new life.

zachary enters the house, not enough time to kick his boots off and shed the leather jacket before a booming mixture of sweet smells and loud cheers attack his senses. “ fuck! what the --- ” comes the exclamation, brows knit in a surprise as his fingers pick a tiny pink star - shaped paper from his hair. he must look bewildered, like a cornered animal, confused gaze flies over all the faces before piecing it all together. sneaky bastards. “ you . . . you planned all this? what the hell, you . . . you're all crazy, ” he laughs, overwhelmed, greeting their family with a baffled smile before wrapping his arms around poppy and planting a kiss atop her blonde, fluffy locks as he leans over her petite figure. stormy eyes remain wide open, dazed and confused, as if in a trance. his eyes soften upon looking at her, warmth spilling in his chest like a summer breeze. adoration too grand to manage as he squeezed his arms around poppy, lifting her off her tiptoes into a tight bear hug.

ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ“ my favourite? but you're my favourite . . . ” zach's hand around her waist as he sets her down gently, head cocking to the side as his gaze meets hers. the immensity of his emotions making it hard to speak. “ i, uh . . . dunno what to say. ” his fingers tremble slightly as they reach his face, dragging the palm of his hand against the stubbled cheek. “ thank you, all a'you for . . . rememberin', for . . . for everything, ” zach looks around, making sure it's not all a dream that he would soon wake up from, voice fragile and veiled with rasp. zachary was always bad at dealing with surprises, and this one has left him speechless, making him far more emotional and awkward than he was comfortable admitting.

oh, absolutely. if he didn't realize earlier, he definitely did when she spent time perfecting that vegan pickled herring recipe and to satisfy his cravings, using aubergine instead of fish and devoting hours to perfectly capture that fish texture and nostalgic taste. you know she's a keeper when she does that! but in all seriousness, zachary spends every day thinking about his wife and how it's enough to make his chest burst with love, how both of them would do absolutely anything and everything for the other. @lovegrws is the sun to his moon, the stars to his night sky, the ray of light that quite literally keeps him alive and hopeful for what the future holds.
