WhoTube Showcase 7 // Council of Geeks
Council of Geeks reviews and ranks everything Doctor Who!
One of the best speakers I've found on YouTube, Vera is great at doing piece to camera style reviews and talks about fandom culture more widely, but also for Doctor Who. The video I've picked here I found really persuasive, and made me more confident in how I saw Twelve.
She also does a series of Take Two Doctor Who Reviews, which are great to see how her views on episodes have changed over time. She'll occasionally have a rant about various topics which are pretty cathartic from my perspecive even if I don't entirely agree with some of them. Her takes from a genderfluid perspective help me see things from a different angle.
Also, her video on how to get into Big Finish was very helpful.
WhoTube Showcase 6 // Confused Adipose
Confused Adipose is a Doctor Who jack of all trades!
While I can't list everything, Joe has done many things for the fandom. Echo's End is probably one of his biggest projects. It's a fan film that's a real love letter to the show and the fans.
More recently he's focused on news, reviews and reactions. In the past, he's also done video essays!
WhoTube Showcase 5 // Clever Dick Films
Clever Dick Films is the quintessential Doctor Who historian.
One of my favourites, this man is in the process of researching, recounting and reviewing every Doctor's era from a personal perspective in Dr Who Review. Each of these episodes takes months of research, scripting, recording and editing and they're highly reccomended both for long time fans and people wanting to know more about the history of the show.
He also documents the companions and does a Then and Now series on specific filming locations on the side.
He's a big channel in terms of WhoTube nowadays, and I was very happy that his appearance on Who's There? A Doctor Who Podcast did so well for that channel because of his popularity.
WhoTube Showcase 4 // Christel Dee
Christel Dee is back on YouTube!
A former member of FiveWhoFans and host of Doctor Who: The Fan Show up until the Moffat era's end, Christel has made a recent return to WhoTube and published a couple more videos opening and looking over Who merchandise, such as old trading cards and the collectors' box sets (with their designer!). While there's not much recent content on here yet, I'm looking forward to what she makes in the future!
Christel is also on TikTok.
WhoTube Showcase 3 // BabelColour
BabelColour makes great high-effort edits!
An incredibly long-running channel (though currently somewhat 'dormant'), BabelColour is best known for the Every Doctor Who Story videos he seems to make every five years. I love this video as I'm watching through all of classic Who at the moment. It very much puts into perspective how far I've come so far (I'm only at 1:25 after 1.5 years of watching lol)
He also made great edits and is part of the upcoming fan film The Timeless Doctors that seems to have been worked on for several years now. Looking forward to it!
You know, listening to the 9th Doctor audios (I’m still amazed Big Finish got Christopher Eccleston back for them) I’ve realized something. Taking them with how we see 9 in his one tv season, which we know takes place after all of these audios, 9’s positivity and happiness are just such a mask. Like. Yeah on the surface he seems just as enthusiastic and jovial and upbeat as 8, but it’s a hallow act. 8 is all those levels of happiness because they come naturally to that incarnation of the Doctor. But along the path to the Time War, they all get beaten out of him. And so as the Doctor emerges from that war in the brand new incarnation of 9, it’s like he doesn’t know how to be after that terrible conflict and the terrible things he had to do to save the universe. So what does he do? He puts on the mask of the happiness and joy he had when he was 8. Almost as if he’s hoping that if he tries and acts like he was when he was 8, it’ll become true again. That he can go back to being the Doctor from before the war happened.
WhoTube Showcase 2 // Adam Martyn
Adam Martyn delves into strange Who and TV history!
Adam's Weird Who is maybe my favourite of all of his series, documenting the strangest media that's come out of the show's long history.
His other series include Tat from the Tardis where he looks at his collection, an extremely helpful History of Doctor Who Viewing Figures that explain why they went up and down in the way they did (it's not just show bad), occasional news, unboxings, and reviews, and a narration of all the Dr. Men books. He also very much has hair.
Whotube Showcase 1 // 3ddoctorwho
3ddoctorwho creates incredible CGI animation.
His biggest thing at the moment is Infiltration of the Daleks, an animated series in which something sinister slips into the Daleks' ranks. The series has the best CGI daleks I’ve ever seen, even in the main show. Their heads even wobble! I also love their individual personalities and designs, as well as their slightly German(?) accents which I think work pretty well. The beautiful intro is made by Oliver Chenery who'll come up later in this series. There's a second series in the works I believe, which you can support on his Patreon.
He's also made the dalek short film Procession, as well as The Marvellous Adventures of Doctor Who which has a little figurine Thirteen getting into mischief.
have you ever wondered why UNIT was renamed from "United Nations Intelligence Taskforce" to "Unified Intelligence Taskforce" in New Who? this is why.
