I wonder… What does this have to do with us? I don’t understand how we, the fans, are relevant to their relationship. Why is she angry at us? Directioners were also very young. We were teenagers between 2010-2015? We didn’t know any better at that age. This feels like guilt-tripping. She’s guilttriping the fans so we’d turn against him.
Whenever I ask for evidence or a reasonable explanation to believe her, I’m met with responses like: “You support violence against women,” “You don’t believe her just because she’s a woman,” or “You’re a pick me.”
This is gaslighting. It’s when someone tries to make another person question their perception of reality, their feelings, or their memory. The point of gaslighting is often to gain power and control over the other person by confusing them and making them doubt what’s true.
I’ve also got responses like ”you should support her because she’s a woman.” or Women support women”. or something like that. This is victimnizing, that’s when the focus shifts from evaluating evidence and credibility to a broader social issue of gender and power structures. 🤷🏻♀️
It feels like you’re using misogyny as a way to deny the fact that there’s no evidence in other words: Gaslighting.
