It’s time to get ready for the snow season!
Winter is just around the corner and we could not be more excited! Soon snow starts falling and ski resorts open up and we want you to be as prepared as possible for the season opener. Have you already waxed your snowboard? Fixed the bindings and found the perfect stance? And checked your gear and clothes? If you answered no or you are still wondering where to start, keep on reading! We wrote this article and checklist to help you get prepared for the season, so let's dive right in!
Waxing Your Snowboard
Fresh snow is falling, the ground is covered in the good stuff and the sun starts to shine. Sounds pretty dreamy, right? Even though stoke levels are high and you just want to get out there, it’s super important to prepare your snowboard and bindings before heading to the slopes for the first time to feel confident and comfy on your board. This includes cleaning and waxing your snowboard, sharpening the edges and finding the perfect stance. We are going to give you quick and easy instructions on how to wax your snowboard on your own. Sharpening the edges needs a tad more expertise, therefore you could swing by a ski rental to get them sharpened before your first day on the mountain. Of course, you always have the option to get your snowboard serviced and waxed by professionals but hey, it’s super easy to do it on your own and you can save some money at the same time (equals more money for the after ski ;) ).
For DIY snowboard waxing, you need a cloth, an iron (an old flat iron will do the job, so no need to invest in a new one), a scraper and some wax. Start by wiping the base of your board with a damp cloth to make sure it’s clean and ready for the wax. When the base is clean, melt some wax on the base and spread it evenly all over with the iron. Leave the wax to cool down and soak in. After the wax has cooled off it’s time to scrape the excess away, so grab the plastic scraper and make sure the base is nice and even. And just like that, your snowboard is ready for the slopes and you saved quite a bit by doing it yourself!
Need Some New Snowboarding Gear For This Season?
So what are the essentials for snowboarding? It depends a lot on your riding style and the use, but the main things are sturdy snowboard boots, insulated snowboard jacket, snowboard pants or a bib, gloves or mittens and a helmet (safety first!). You can also add some unique style to your outfit with cool goggles and a colorful neck warmer. When choosing snowboard clothing you should take into consideration where and in what type of weather conditions you’ll be using your new gear. For an all-mountain rider or colder conditions, we suggest warm insulated jackets and pants that will perform no matter the weather and you can easily head from park to powder. If you ride in warmer and sunny conditions and love to lap the park, softshells are a great option for you. But in case you are an adventurous powder enthusiast and split-boarding is close to your heart, you might want to check out versatile shell jackets and pants that will let you layer up as you like.
Start Planning The Season
Yewww! Now that your gear and snowboard are ready, it’s time for the fun part: planning your next snowy trip. Or maybe you’re thinking about spending a whole season in the mountains? Whether you’re looking to spend a week in the mountains or the whole winter, here are couple of good tips you should know.
If you are heading to the mountains for the whole season, connect with other seasonaires in social channels and check out the local’s discounts for the season pass. Finding an apartment/accommodation and a job can be a bit tricky at times but don’t shy away from asking for help and be active. Locals and other seasonaires are usually more than happy to help out! :)
When deciding a destination for your next snowboard holiday, make sure to find a resort suitable for your skill level to get the most out of your vacation. Also check out the other activities available (imagine relaxing in a spa after a long day in the mountains, ah!) and book your accommodation near a ski lift/ the main gondola to catch the first lift up in the morning. Wherever you decide to go, we are sure it will be amazing!
Let us know how your first day back on the board went and send us pics from the mountains :)
