me: spending his entire childhood being tortured and experimented on by his manipulative father figure and an evil government organization has left Dirk with a range of trust issues and (conversely) the inability to tell easily when people are lying to him, but he’s not an idiot and he’s trying his damn best to navigate often complicated social situations so everyone needs to cut him some slack.

also me: the first time Dirk watches Jurassic Park is when the entire mystery squad is drunk and Amanda successfully manages to convince him that it’s a documentary.
