WATCH: âThe Black Boy & The Treeâ is a cerebral short film wrote & directed by Shikeith, that follows a black man played by Michael Oloyede, into the woods where he attempts to convince a black boy to come down from a dangerous tree he has made his home. This film tells the story of many black men and boys, who suffer the consequences of a cultural practice that routinely shames black males for experiencing hurt outside of systematic racial oppression.

âOn January 1, 1969, a flood in my office-kitchen at Prince of Wales College on Prince Edward Island ruined all of my 16mm raw stock. Â When Larry Perron came as a visiting artist, we used this film to generate a series of non-camera experiments.â

And I flat out refuse to have one of those lives that I wouldnât even want to read about.

Admit it. You arenât like them. Youâre not even close. You may occasionally dress yourself up as one of them, watch the same mindless television shows as they do, maybe even eat the same fast food sometimes. But it seems that the more you try to fit in, the more you feel like an outsider, watching the ânormal peopleâ as they go about their automatic existences. For every time you say club passwords like âHave a nice dayâ and âWeatherâs awful today, eh?â, you yearn inside to say forbidden things like âTell me something that makes you cryâ or âWhat do you think deja vu is for?â. Face it, you even want to talk to that girl in the elevator. But what if that girl in the elevator (and the balding man who walks past your cubicle at work) are thinking the same thing? Who knows what you might learn from taking a chance on conversation with a stranger? Everyone carries a piece of the puzzle. Nobody comes into your life by mere coincidence. Trust your instincts. Do the unexpected. Find the others.
