Arizona has been through a lot since coming to Seattle. She had married Callie, who she thought she would grow old with. She got into a plane crash and lost a leg, and then they went through a lot to try to make their marriage work. They had Sofia who was in the middle of everything and that meant trying to make things work for her. But they were just too broken and well, that ended not the way Arizona wanted it to end. Maybe it was all just about trying to make something work that wasnât able to. Both of them were super unhappy and both of them were trying to fake being happy. Not that she missed her old life, she did. She missed being with the brunette and Sofia every night. But Arizona was moving on and she had a career and now she had adopted a daughter.Â
Lennon was a teenager who had medical issues and no one understood. But Arizona being the person she was and being that she knew just what Lennon needed, she took it upon herself to give her the care and love she needed and she adopted the younger blonde. Not that she was ready for a teenager, because Sofia was still younger, almost nine to be exact but here she was with a teenager and a daughter who is almost double digits. Sure, Callie knows about Lennon, but it doesnât mean the two of them are getting together again. That is not how this work. But Arizona had made it work. With her job and scheduling herself, it has been an easy transition and she was ready for this chapter of her life.Â
She got Lennon into the best school in Seattle, and the best teachers who are aware of what she needs when she goes into an episode of what she has. That is why Arizona was freaking out when she got a page to come down to the ER. Lennon was there as her teacher brought her in there and she wasnât aware of what happened. She dropped everything and got down there as quick as she could and Arizona looked around until she noticed the teacher her brought her and a relieved smile was on her face and a breath was heard before she made her way over to relieve the teacher if she wanted to be relieved. âThank you so much for bringing her here. I am sorry it took me so long, I had patients I had to pass off until I could get down here. Is everything okay?â
Of course this was Arizona worrying, seeing any kids in the ER was not good, but her own, between when Sofia cut her forehead to now Lennon being there, shew as just worried it wouldnât be okay if she hit her head or something. But the teacher looked calm so who was she to worry as much until she gave her another reason to otherwise. âSorry about that. I know you know me, but I am Arizona. Lennonâs mother.â Putting her hand out to formally introduce herself, just so they can be on the same page.Â
Teaching wasn't something that Lucia saw herself going into. When she was younger, all she wanted to do was go up into space and that was mainly because her parents always said that her head were in the clouds. Lucia had an active imagination when she was younger and every day, she was fixated on something different. It lead her to writing her own stories when she was younger, but she kept these to herself. When the time came to picking out what she wanted to do now that she was older, she knew her active imagination would be good for being a teacher and so, that's what she done now.Â
It always surprised Lucia that she loved her job. Each year she had a new group of kids that she got to grow with, and she got to teach them things that they didn't know before. Some stuck around and would occasionally visit her during their lunch breaks because she seen herself as being "the cool one", though also good at her job. Unlike some of the other teachers in school, Lucia made the effort to get to know some of the children, and always made her classroom a safe space for people that wanted to hide out, or to talk. It was what she could have done with when she was younger. There were a few kids that would do this, Lennon in particular was one that she got to know during that time.
However, unfortunately, on that day, Lennon was far from herself. Lucia knew her past and what was wrong with her, but it was still important for Lucia to get her to the hospital to get her checked out. Not only that, but she was aware that Lennon's mom worked there so perhaps it was for the best. As it was nearing the end of the day, Lucia made sure to get someone to cover her class so that she could take Lennon to the hospital, and when they got there, Lucia stayed with her until Arizona came.
As Lucia sat there waiting on someone to come over, she looked around at all the doctors, trying to see if she could spot Arizona. Of course the two had met, but not like this. Finally spotting the blonde, Lucia smiled softly. "She took a bit of a spell and I thought it was best to get her checked out. I'm not really sure what's happening but, there's no safer place than a hospital, right?" she let out a small, yet nervous laugh, wishing she could have done more about the situation. Then reaching her hand out to meet with Arizona's, she gently shook it. "Lucia, or Miss Rodriguez to Lennon."
Arizona kind of knew just how Lennon felt. She was the new kid in school. She was the kid that everyone seen as weird. Arizona had a weird name, and she moved around as a kid, so she knew just how Lennon felt but she did her best to make sure she had the best support system and she was doing what she had to as a mother, being Sofia was younger and wasnât there full time, as Lennon was. Though, Sofia and Lennon go along, it wasnât the same without Sofia there and Lennon being in school why Arizona worked. She never knew when episodes would hit and she never knew how bad they would be until she seen her. Today was the day she was dreading, something happening at work.Â
Arizona was busy, but when it is one of her kids, she drops everything and she runs down to the ER as fast as she could. She was in the middle of a post-operation visit that she had to cut it short and come back when she was done or hand it off, she will soon, most likely. But once she was able to leave, Arizona went down looking for Lennonâs teacher and when she finally found her, she sighed a relief knowing it was Lucia, and it made Arizona feel better knowing that Lennon liked her as a teacher as well. Knowing she was a good one and knew just what the younger blonde needed before she could say anything about what she actually needed.Â
Once she reached the brunette, Arizona nodded her head, knowing that things were just as they were not that long ago. Nodding her head and a small smile reached Arizonaâs face. Nodding her head as she couldnât disagree about that. âI appreciate that. She didnât say anything about not feeling well this morning. She also looked like she was fine. So thank you for looking out for her. It means a lot to me. More then anything.â Arizona was a person who worried and when it came to her kids, she worried more then others being she had seen sick children. She had seen children not make it out of the hospital. So that is why she knows the risk of taking them to the hospital if they have a spill like Lennon did that day.Â
âNice to meet you formally as Lucia. Do you know what they might be doing? Or they were waiting on me?â She needed to get to Lennon but didnât want Lucia to leave just yet since she brought Lennon in. âYouâre welcome to come with and stay with Lennon as well. I think she would like that.â Another smile pulled at Arizonaâs face, this time bigger and this time without a hesitation. She meant it and she knew Lennon would love if Lucia was there when she woke up.
Lucia thought that her day was going to go fast. She had a couple of errands to do after she had finished at work and hoped to finally catch up on the final episode of a programme that she had been watching. Due to school being so hectic in recent weeks, she thought she had deserved a night to kick back and relax. Lucia, however, was proud of herself for getting, not only herself, but her pupils through the last couple of weeks. It had been tough, and she wasnât entirely sure why, but she could see them all coming out the other side of things and it was all beginning to look up. Despite having plans that night, Lucia, of course, was going to help out a pupil whom she had grown a connection to. She was always there when Lennon was having a not so good day, so it was only right that she be the one to bring her into hospital that day, especially with Lucia knowing the most about her past.Â
It had been a relatively long wait in the ER that night, but from what she could see, it was a busy night. There were all sorts of casualties coming in and out, some serious, some not so much. All that Lucia was waiting on was Arizona, and when she spotted her coming through the crowds of people, a sigh of relief could be heard. âBy the sounds of things, it just came on suddenly. I seen her this morning and, like you, I thought she looked totally okay.â Sure, Lucia didnât know her to the extent that Arizona did, but given that Lucia was the person Lennon went to when she wasnât having the best of days, she did know each individual look.Â
Over the last few months, Lucia was beginning to know Arizona. They had shared telephone calls whenever Lennon wasnât doing good, and she wasnât entirely sure why she was reintroducing herself, but here she was. âSure, yeah. Iâll come with.â Lucia nodded her head, a little too eagerly but was it because she was wanting to spend a little more time with the blonde?
Arizona was close to having a couple days off. She has been working more now, that Sofia was still in New York, and Lennon being older, she can stay home alone after school. But, lately, the hospital has been pretty busy and her kids on her floor have needed her more then she thought they would. Then the expectant mothers she had on her floor as well they were all scared and Arizona had to reassure them everything would be fine. Maybe that is why she was exhausted and just ready to head home that night and make dinner for Lennon and her and call Sofia. That was the plan. But little did she know her plans were changing.
Just as Arizona was wrapping up a few notes on her tablet about a patient, she got paged down to the emergency room, but it wasnât a nine one one call. It was just a page to go down there. Not that she wanted to know what was going on, but she needed to go down there. Giving the nurse her tablet and she was down to the emergency room, and seeing Lucia and that is when her heart stopped just a little but. She was shocked to see her there and thought Lennon was feeling fine that mooring, at least that is what Arizona seen before she let her go to school that morning.
âI am so grateful you brought her here, I have a couple more hours before I am off and home. I just â she looked fine this morning, she was in good spirits and wanted to got o school today. I am so sorry youâre here. I didnât mean for this to happen.â Arizona felt bad, not sure if Lucia had anywhere to go, but she thought she would ask if she wanted to stay and check on Lennon just when she was ready. Sighing low, Arizona feels so bad but she couldnât help but smile when Lucia agreed to stick around.
She had gotten to know Lennonâs teacher a little better with everything that goes on during class sometimes. âJust, thank you. Follow me and we will hang out in the hallway until they are ready for us to go in there. If they say anything to you. Just say youâre with me. They wonât bother you anymore.â Arizona wasnât going to let her know she owns part of this hospital, but it might slip up eventually.
The one thing about Lucia was that the students in her class meant everything to her. She would drop whatever it was to make sure she could be there for them and it had always been the case for Lennon. Lennon was a regular in her class but she knew that it was because Lucia was the only one she could trust and she really didn't mind that. It was just the type of person she was. When she seen that day that Lennon wasn't doing too good, the last thing she was going to do was ignore it and so, with it being the end of the school day, Lucia took her to the hospital that Arizona worked at, knowing that it was the best place for her.
Catching up with Arizona and seeing that she felt bad for what had happened, Lucia shared her head, "Hey, don't apologise! I thought that same thing. It wasn't until the bell rang for end of school and she came to me feeling that way. You aren't to blame, alright?" she smiled at the blonde, hoping that this would make her feel at least a little bit better. Lucia wasn't a mom herself but she knew how others felt when it came to things like that. It was part of her job and usually she would get the brunt of it from parents and them asking her why she hadn't noticed things earlier which is why she was thankful for Arizona being the way she was.
The two had various catch ups recently in terms of Lennon, and school. Each time her feelings towards the blonde grew but she knows that couldn't, or wouldn't ever happen. Just, sometimes she couldn't help herself around the blonde. Agreeing to wait alongside with her in the hallway, Lucia took a seat outside the room and glanced over at Arizona. "How was your day?" Small talk seemed like the best idea.
Arizona wasnât really looking to adopt a teenager, but the teen needed her more then she thinks she knew. She had health issues only Arizona understood and that meant giving her more then anyone could give her. Arizona had worked hard to understand what triggers Lennon and what doesnât, but the thing was, when Lennon went to school she couldnât be there to see what was going on, so when she was at work and seen her teacher brought her in, it meant something happened and she had to figure out just what was going on and see what needs to be done to help her get better.
Lucia was nice, she was the one who Lennon trusted when Arizona wasnât there and that meant she could relax more, but Arizona didnât notice her daughter was feeling bad in the morning, but they were all running around because they were late, and Arizona and her type-a she can never be late if she was being honest. So she rushed everyone out the door. Now she felt this was her fault and she was told not to do that. But she had to because Lennon was now in the hospital. âJust we were running a little late this morning and I am never one who runs late, and I didnât notice the signs. So I feel this is my fault. Just thank you so much for taking notice and bringing her here.â So she was now waiting to see what she can do to help the teen.
Sitting down with Lucia in the hallway outside the room for now. She was surprised she didnât want to leave, but that might be why Arizona liked that Lennon had her. âMy day has been busy. Pregnant mothers need me with their kids and then kids need me. But that is on hold when my kids are here. I have another child. I donât know if Lennon has told you. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together as well.â Maybe this was not a good time to say this, but she felt it would help for Lucia to understand her and understand that she is always doing something. âHow was your day other then Lennon having to come here. I know you might have something to do after work, youâre okay to go when you want to. I wonât hold it against you.â
Unlike many of the others teachers who worked alongside her, Lucia liked to always improve upon her studies and learned about health in children and how to deal with certain illness and physical disabilities. It was something that she had been interested in and wanted to be that person that her students could come to if they needed anything. Lucia was an open book, and she loved her job more than anything in the world. Lennon, she was close with her but Lucia knew enough about her condition to know just what to do if she took a bad spell.Â
It was nice to know that a student leaned against her in a way. Lucia knew herself that she was an open person and had the gentle voice but also tough side if need be, however that was rarely ever used. That afternoon, Lennon came to her, and Lucia done all that she knew before bringing her into the hospital for Arizona and the peds department to do what they had to do. Now she was here, waiting with the blonde who she seemed to be rather close to. "This isn't anyone's fault, Arizona. These things happen, and you're right, she looked fine this morning because Lennon came in and greeted me like she usually does and I didn't notice anything different. It isn't on you." Lucia smiled softly at her, wanting to be the person that comforted Arizona.
Lucia had heard the mention of another name in her household, but she hadn't put two and two together until Arizona mentioned it there. All Lucia thought was that it was Arizona's partner, so to know who it was, perhaps Lucia had a shot in the end. "Thats Sofia, right? Lennon mentioned the name a few times but honestly, I thought it was someone else. I can imagine it will have been a busy day, I don't know how you do it, really." Lucia laughed, knowing she was luckier that she had weekends off and early evenings. Waving her hand, she shook her head. "All my evening was going to consist of was eating donuts and watching The Great American Baking Show. I would much rather be here and make sure she is okay."
