What’s the most interesting penguin in your opinion?

the Blue Fairy Penguin of New Zealand!

they’re also called the Little Penguin because these little blue dudes are the smallest penguin species of all, averaging about a foot tall.

but what makes them really interesting is that they’re one of the only species of penguin adapted to dealing with large land predators!

most penguins live in areas inaccessible to land predators, but unfortunately for many species New Zealand is not one of these places. so what the Blue Fairy Penguin does is adapt a subterranean lifestyle and live in deep burrows out of reach.

also they don’t just make those burrows directly on the water but can go a pretty decent distance inland, which means you could wander through the coastland forests of New Zealand in some areas and encounter a tiny fucking penguin just scuttling around in the underbrush, and I for one think that’s hilarious.
