Long story short, I was looking for a way to buy R-18 doujinshi without having to show my ID online to give to a Japanese shopping service (I am over the legal age to buy adult materials, I just don’t like giving those things out, specially online)
After quite a bit of searching I came across doujinpress.com. at first I was a bit skeptical though I saw their twitter and update page was active so I decided to bite the bullet and attempt to order something from their page through the toranoana buying page.
Ordering Process:
Ordering was simple enough, you just place the item URL into their search bar and it automatically generates a buy page for you. The first doujinshi I decided to buy was the one with Satsuki and Gamagoori on the front cover. It was a little over $24 with shipping and handling, and an expected US arrival time of the end of Feb. The next day I ordered the other one and patiently waited for the day I would get confirmation.
Since the items had to be ordered from Japan and shipped over to the US than shipped to me it would make sense that it would take about a month to get here. I ordered one book on Jan.9 the other on Jan.10.
I got a confirmation that I received a refund from doujinpress. I actually thought it was because they couldn’t find one or both of the doujinshi since they seem to be in demand (Gamagoori is a real popular character especially among Bara circles). But luckily enough they just refunded me the $3.50 for shipping and just combined the two purchases together. So very lucky on my part.
They did send tracking for the items which included an delivery date that was right on time, which was great since it ended up being my day off so I could enjoy reading these right away (or reading what little text there was).
Just a standard bubble envelope with a few packing peanuts inside. Nothing too amazing. Also the items came with covers, most likely the covers that were sent with from Toranoana., which was good because I don’t have any covers left for my doujinshi (I believe 10 out of the over 100 I have currently don’t have covers).
In a heartbeat I would use doujinpress again to buy doujinshi, while the item itself cost about $25 to get, it’s the same price if I went through a Japanese shopping service and did the same thing. Their system is easy to use and I don’t mind waiting. Domestic shipping is cheap $3.50 and it’s also nice to have an estimated delivery date when you purchase an item so that you have an idea of when it was coming, though it’s the best when it comes earlier.
While I haven’t used any other of doujinpress.com other services, I will probably in the future and make a review on that.
It seemed one of my doujins came with a little omake (the one on the left). It was just a leaflet with like two extra pages. Wasn’t honestly expecting that. It was a nice surprise on just an impulse buy.
