so my dad and sister are here for the week and they brought their dogs and tiny bastard is uncertain about this (and getting lots of time in rooms where the other dogs are closed out so that she can de-stress) but I haven't seen my dad's senior dachshund since early 2020 and. this dog is so funny. She looks like a haunted post office. She looks like if there was a shaky little sausage dog cast in The Evil Dead. She looks like her eyes were replaced with cursed opals and she's shivering about it.
Artist's impression.
Is she blind?
She is. I didn't realize how much of her vision she'd lost in the last two years so I had to go around the house and babyproof it for everything knee height and lower when she got here.
She
One of my dad's park friends found her wandering on the street with no tags or chip about a month before my dad was going to move to texas, and ended up asking my dad to take care of her while they looked for her owner. The owner never turned up so dad kept her.
She is VERY spoiled, so spoiled in fact that even though she *can* dig her way under a blanket she prefers not to and will simply bark until someone covers her up (as I just did because my dad is at the movies). She's a standard doxie, is about 14 years old, and she has the softest fur of any dachshund I've ever met.
She is very sweet if you're a people, and she reacts about as well to strange dogs as you might expect a 14-year-old blind dachshund to, so we're keeping her and Tiny Bastard separated, which mostly involves putting each of them on a different soft surface with sunbeams to nap in. Tiny Bastard is no spring chicken either and at 9 years old spends about 18 hours a day sleeping. Sadie seems to be closer to 22 hours a day of naptime.
She got out in the sunshine for a little while today.
Wandered around the living room for an hour and then buried herself in some laundry.
Little grayface Sadie Lady.
Return of the Queen
Sadie is back, and is having issues with her eye.
Now, having looked at this post I'm sure you're saying "okay but really what more can be going on with this dog's eyes?"
One of them seems to be deflating? She has visited the vet, who says, basically, "it's not hurting, it's not infected, let us know if it changes, but for now our diagnosis is 'seventeen year old standard daschund' and there's no treatment for that aside from lots of warm blankets and comfy pillows."
So the primary effect here is that Sadie wanders around with a permanent expression of concern.
Her brow is furrowed, her ears are flopped, and she always looks like she thinks she might have left the stove on.
She is, as ever, transcendently haunted.
Do you love the color of the Sadie?
Haunted sausage is back in town.
Sadie took the road trip home with my dad this weekend. She had a nice day settling back into her comfy couch and eating lots of treats, and passed away this morning as a result of being a million years old.
She was very well loved, and my dad has appreciated hearing the funny things people had to say about her in the tags and reblogs of this post over the years. Give your pets a hug for us and a treat for Sadie, who has gone on to haunt post offices in another realm.
u heard about doomed by the narrative now get ready for doomed by my mum and her coven of space eugenics cult sisters thru their 10k year long breeding program. duned by the narrative if u will
