What did she know about her best interest? The only person who had ever had her best interest at heart was herself, and more often times than not that had cost Lily everything. It wasnât always easy being the lone wolf, she was constantly looking over her shoulder and never staying in one place for too long. She learned long ago that personal connections could be used to hurt you, which was why she kept herself at a safe distance from everybody she knew from that point on, unless she deemed it necessary to get close to them as a means to further her own agenda.
Dove was, some what, one of the exceptions she allowed herself.
She figured a vampire of her strength wouldnât easily become a pawn to be used against the werewolf.
â The balance has always been tipped in their favour. â Lily said, lifting her gaze to meet the vampires; she sensed the other girl was incredibly old, she had an air about her but she didnât realise she was senile too. â Weâre prosecuted to the full extent of The Accords but how many unsanctioned vampires nests, warlock covens or wolf packs have they raided and got off with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. â She gritted her teeth, working her jaw to suppress the anger that coiled inside; threatening to suck the air out of her lungs until all she could do was suffocate on her own rage.Â
She exhaled sharply, remembering to breathe, remembering that it wasnât Dove her anger and frustrations were directed at â it was those of angelic blood.
âThatâs due to the fact that weâre the monsters.â She smiled wryly but there was no humour in her eyes. It was true in a way. Werewolves, vampires, seelies, any creature that wasnât regarded as human was the monster, the thing that went bump in the night. Lily was so... angry because she still had hope. She had hope for equality, for there to be the change where everyone was on the same level as everyone else. But hatred, inequality was so ingrained into every person, it was impossible. Ironically, it was a part of human nature and that included the shadowhunters. Dove had seen too much, knew too much and there was no hope inside her anymore. There would always be hatred towards her.Â
âIf you want to change the world, I wonât stop you. But blood spilled is a stain you wonât get out, no matter how good your intentions are in your mind.â Dove spoke evenly, ready for this debate. âI do have to ask where this point of view comes from, Lily, Iâm sorry. Youâre a lone wolf for a reason, I know that. But add that with your hatred of shadowhunters... what happened to you, pup?â
