Ranking my main SSO horses (and co.) based on how well they're dealing with all the snow in Jorvik:

1) Disco: Grows a thick, fluffy coat that makes him look like he's gained about a hundred pounds. Likes playing and rolling in the snow. Can stay outside without a blanket comfortably, and will find a way to remove a blanket if given one. Maintains weight well even in winter months. Good at foraging. 10/10

2) Wizard Egg: Winter coat's fairly thin. Not all that great at foraging. Tends to get a little skinnier in winter, even with extra feed. Needs to be blanketed most of the time outdoors. Less inclined to play, but does enjoy watching the snow fall.5/10) 3) Fortune: Has the best winter coat by a decent margin. Looks majestic doing his fancy high-stepping footwork in snow but absolutely hates it. Viscerally despises remotely wet weather. Will not set foot outside of his cozy indoor stall if he so much as smells rain. Requires several bribes to be moved from his nice warm pile of bedding, and even more to be ridden. (3/10) 4) Hunter: Imagine a cold, wet dog that's very visibly both cold and wet but insists on staying outside anyways. This is a southern boy who saw snow maybe every other year, and even then, it was two or three inches (5-7cm) at most. Does not know how to dress for Jorvik winters and may never learn. Still goes out to have some snowday fun and comes back indoors frozen half to death. (1/10)

i dont know how to design characters lmao

hunter redesign is on the brain but i dont know how else he would look. that man is a sopping wet version of my 19 year old self. i've changed since the day when he was a self insert but maybe he'll always be like that. for some reason. i try to make him different and end up drawing the same guy a little to the left. he's a ghost in the machine

i want to make him marginally more unsettling. less neurotic prey animal since that was mostly me anyways. we're both still haggard twenty-somethings who are a little too dependent on horses for mental health though. also had the idea of coming up with an entire new sso character for a while but. don't know where to start :(

horses have been made into the ideal worker over thousands of years of breeding and domestication and yet now are made to race to the point of exhaustion and injury and sometimes death to entertain the rich if they fail they are killed and if they succeed they are spared until they stop succeeding and then they are killed

even the most successful racehorses often end up beaten and starving in kill pens despite spending their lives earning millions of dollars for their stables their owners and thousands of sports betters

humans and horses are alike in our struggle under the boot of uncaring aristocracy

do not forget the love that fuels you in your anger do not let them break you and make you into their idea of animals they do not know that animals too have love and courage and reason and camaraderie they do not know that we have always been animals and animals feel so much more than their beloved hate and fear

btw now is the best time to keep boycotting. the israeli economy has never been weaker. don't stop the protests or the demands for divestment. keep supporting organisations like the Hind Rajab Foundation and the Accountability Archive. ofc don't stop boosting and donating to Palestinians as Gaza is still uninhabitable.
