Hello friend @myhusbandsasemni, so sorry it took me so long to get to your ask and also so sorry I am a disaster and now your ask is now a post, but you asked about a conversation between my characters and I actually have something that I’ve written for fun and practice between a bunch of my OCs so I’ll post a bit of that for you. Thanks for the ask! -- Sorry if it’s edited poorly. I’ve done this twice now and I’m exhausted!
Aella smiled back at him and raised a hand over her eyes. As she scanned the horizon, her eye caught on a dark figure stumbling towards them. She gasped, “Jax.”
They were still a ways off, and she couldn’t tell from where she stood what state they were in. At the tone of her voice, Jax was at her in a flash. He took in the figure and mumbled under his breath, “Friend or foe, friend or foe...”
“Let’s go find out.” Aella said, her voice hardening at the possible threat. After years in prison, hers and Jax’s fight or flight reflexes were finely honed and they leaned heavily towards fight.
At that, they took off across the dunes. It took them longer in the unknown terrain and their muscles were screaming by the time they made it, but eventually, the figure they’d seen was close enough for them to see that it was actually a couple. They were huddled close together, helping each other across the dunes. Jax and Aella stopped a fair distance away, waiting for the couple to notice them. Jax looked at Aella and raised an eyebrow.
They put their weapons away and Jax said, “Friend.” He eyed them struggling to stand upright on the sand and added, “Or at least not a threat.”
Aella’s eyebrows pulled together as she watched them. “Should we help them?”
Jax pursed his lips in thought. “Let’s talk to them first.”
They stalked closer slowly, “Uh, hi.” Aella called out.
She saw that the girl had dark red hair, vivid green eyes, and she flashed Aella a smile despite her obvious exhaustion. The boy helping her stand was about the same height as Jax and he had dark hair and bright blue eyes. He looked somehow softer than Jax did. His form was just as sculpted, but his eyes held an innocence that Jax hadn’t possessed
in a long, long time.
“Hi!” The girl yelled back. They were growing closer and she stopped yelling as she held her hand out to Aella. “I’m Indi.” She eyed Aella and Jax a bit nervously, but didn’t let it deter her. “Do either of you know what’s going on?”
Aella frowned at Indi’s outstretched hand. She looked over at Jax who was also looking at the hand with an eyebrow raised. He caught her eye and shrugged. Aella cleared her throat and decided not to embarrass the girl by mentioning the strange action.
After a minute, Indi lowered her hand and glanced up at the guy next to her, her smile faltering. He gave her a small smile and a squeeze and Indi turned back to Aella. “So?”
Oh. RIght. Aella had been so distracted by the strange action, she’d forgotten to answer her question. “No, we have no idea what’s going on. We were walking off the boat and then everything went black and here we are. We thought we were alone until you two showed up.”
“The boat?” The guy next to Indi asked, his eyebrows shooting up. Aella’s gaze hopped to him, followed by Jax’s. “Oh, I’m Kai.” He added. He made a strange
motion like he was going to hold his hand out like Indi had, but he thought better of it and quickly rubbed the back of his neck instead.
Aella and Jax took in their strange attire and the fact that neither of them seemed to be armed, which was a rare thing in their world. Then they looked down at themselves and realized why the couple seemed nervous around them. Aella had daggers stuffed in every available space and Jax and two swords crossed over his back. They must look a bit intimidating. Jax grinned at the thought.
“Yeah.” Aella answered slowly and then as something clicked in her mind, she added, “On our world. We travel by boat. Well, except in Aérien.” She added as an afterthought.
“Aérien?” Indi asked. “Where exactly are you from?”
Jax finally spoke up, causing the girl to startle a little. Indi was surprisingly tall, not too much shorter than Jax and Kai. “We come from an Island called Feu. In a world called Eleira.”
Indi and Kai’s eyes went wide. “Where are you from?” Jax asked them.
“We’re from a town called Preston, in America, on a planet called Earth.” Indi answered, sounding a little weirded out.
“Alright, well, we need to figure something out.” Aella said. “We don’t have any water and we have no idea where we are or how to get back to our worlds.”
“Jax!” Jax and Aella whirled around at the sound of his name.
“Oh sh-- Lacey.” Jax said her name with something akin to panic in his voice. He immediately took off running with Aella close on his heels. The two collided in a hug that lifted Lacey from the ground. She was breathless from her sprint across the sand and Aella was happy, and sad, to see Caden by her side.
“Lacey, Caden, do you two know how we got here?” Aella hugged Caden and then Lacey while Jax wrapped Caden up in a bear hug.
“I can’t believe you’re both here.” Caden said. “We’ve missed you both. It’s
unfortunate we’re meeting under these circumstances.”
“And no, we have no clue what’s going on.” Lacey answered Aella’s question.
“Geez, you guys are fast!” Indi’s breathless voice came from behind them and the two couples spun around to see that Indi and Kai had followed them.
“Who’s this?” Lacey asked, straightening her shoulders and donning a queenly air.
Indi gasped, “Oh my gosh, are you a princess?” She was looking up and down at Lacey’s elegant dress and crown with delighted eyes.
“Actually,” Jax stepped forward, a wicked grin on his lips, and an arm around Lacey and Caden’s shoulders. “Meet Queen Leila Cecily Orbeta and King Caden DeCraen.”
Indi and Kai’s mouths dropped open. Lacey and Caden smirked a little and rolled their eyes at Jax.
Lacey looked down at her outfit and growled a little. “Yes, I am a queen. Unfortunately.” She added, her tone growing more annoyed as she spoke. “I have to dress like this and now I’m woefully unprepared. Again.” She mumbled. “This is getting ridiculous.”
“Do either of you have water?” Aella asked. “We keep running across this desert like this and we’re going to be in big trouble soon.”
Caden’s blue eyes lit up happily. “We actually do have water!” He pulled out two leather pouches full of water.
Jax snickered at his friend. “Why did you happen to have water on you?”
Caden grinned at Lacey. “We were going on a picnic.”
“Aww.” Indi said, putting a hand on her chest. “Are you two married?”
“Not yet.” Lacey told her with a soft smile.
“But you’re already King and Queen?” Indi’s delicate eyebrows pulled together in confusion.
“We are King and Queen of two different kingdoms.” Caden explained like it was no big deal.
“Holy crap.” Indi looked up at Kai. “We are so out of our element.”
