“I would hardly say that is accurate. I speak the regular amount! That is to say, the regular amount for any intelligent bird with a decent vocabulary above primitive and with vastly intelligent things to say. Besides, whatever I decide to speak of is always of immense value, far greater than many of my classmates at least (and even the teachers if you count Professor Nanaki, when he deigns to be awake). Yes, it is the Le Bel way to speak and at times, yes, lecture those lesser than us on worthwhile opinions and - as is often the case with my lesser-learned classmates - inform on historical facts and concepts. Why I’ve even had to lecture the locals upon Japanese history and custom upon times as well! You would think they would know of the occult and their own ninja but many times they appear to be vastly mistaken, disgraceful. So of course I must bring them up to date, even if quite often urgent summons call those I speak to away within the first 10 minutes. Very strange. They clearly lack the dedication and focus that a Le Bel Naturally possesses. Me, talk too much? Why the very idea is laughable!”

What do you think of humans Sakuya? And Hiyoko specifically?

“What is there to say about humans? Much of their contribution to our society is in the past, and they are a vastly primitive species in some aspects, at least compared to birds. Sometimes it makes me wonder how humans were ever the dominant species on our planet, at least if Tosaka is example enough when it comes to her lack of dedication to her studies (and her occasional tendancy to actually listen to that troglodyte Oko). It however cannot be denied that they are a tenacious race with considerable strength and warriorlike aptitude. Some birds give very little regard to their accomplishments but only a fool disregards the winning tactics of the past, even if they were performed by humans. They even had immense merit in other areas in the past too, such as art and music.

In Japan birds appear to segregate humans and banish them to the wilderness; there has always been conflict between humans and birds so it may be a necessary precaution. There are many movements that view treatment of them in different ways. There is of course the Hawke Party, who believe humans have little place in society as a whole, and the Dove Party, who apparently view them of having some significant use to birds. Growing up I had little reason to even see a human as they simply are not seen around high bird society in France; I feel like my home country’s segregation may be less severe than in Japan but humans are still very much more likely to frequent the countryside districts largely shared by commoners, and security is still very tight toward humans. Birds are more cunning and vastly more intelligent after all, but humans are strong. And I have certainly never shared schooling with one! There is some worth observing Tosaka and the strange choice to have a human learn at this bird school here in Japan. She seems to adapt mostly well to the school, I cannot fault that. But she is also loud, overly-nosy and clearly talks too much! Not to mention the terrible din you might hear whenever she attends music classes (even worse if Oko is there as well), truly a disgrace to the very idea of music - If walking past or when I am forced to attend music I truly have to cover my ears whenever possible as a precaution. Humans in the past have been wonderful composers that even we birds can enjoy, so I do not feel this is indicative of the species as a whole, just Tosaka.

Perhaps if she was more pleasing to listen to and didn’t talk so much she might be less irritating, but given the company she keeps and her tendency to spout strange warrior proverbs, it is unlikely. I don’t feel this is a particular issue with humans though; many of the students at St Pigeonations are unimpressive. And yet, it is the best school in Japan upon my father’s authority. And he is aways right.”

What do you do outside of school/on school holidays?

“Naturally the answer for any student with aspirations beyond staffing the next peddler’s stall in a marketplace or without immense intent on wasting their entire potential doing nothing of value (see also; the detestable Sakazaki) is that my time is carefully planned and organised to achieve the maximum value for my future. If I am to succeed father’s place as his favoured heir then the expectation placed upon me is immense and I must naturally rise to the challenge! So much of my time is spent furthering my education, studying to bridge the pathetic number of gaps in St Pigeonations’ teaching, as well as more direct courses of necessity - business matters, financing, English and improvement on my Japanese (I also intend to start on Chinese in the future). I am also required to uphold some small degree of physical activity and self defence; though despite its formidable people, Japan itself has thus far proven to be without too deadly incident (if you don’t count the time it was suggested I eat lunch with the other students, given the quality of “food” on offer it may well have been an attempt on my life.)”

“As for the holiday season, it is much the same. It is spent bettering myself and preparing for the future. I recently spent my winter vacation with my family of course; we were intending to spend Christmas back in France but some security concerns over there and then last-minute business matters arose here in Japan so that was of higher value. A shame! Japanese pastries cannot measure up to those in my homeland, much less their immensely paltry celebrations for the season. Naturally we held a celebration for father’s most prominent business connections and their families, and some of mother’s acquaintances, so we had good opportunity to share Christmas celebrations in the superior manner of a Le Bel with the worthy.”

“Well, naturally I have taken everything in my stride! As expected of a— well… me. I excel in most things after all, and my… position as heir afforded many advantages in managing events toward keeping my promise to Kawara. Many were changed by the events at that dreadful school, not least the state of rest between humans and birds, so it has been a tumultuous time for the surrounds as well. Hardly a challenge for a French bird of course, we have the will and tenacity of iron! …Yuuya reappearing was unexpected, though typical of that fool to reappear without warning and then go off on some ridiculous dove party adventure as soon as he does so. Regardless I… do not dread his return.”

“As for Kawara, he is… recovering. Iwamine appears to have kept his word, albeit under enforced duress. Which is the least he can do given the harm he caused! The damage done was significant, so it will take some time I fear for him to be completely well physically. The doctors - the more trustworthy ones - have emphasised his need for a peaceful environment; a ridiculous sentiment, but he always was of a weaker disposition.
