There it was. A twitch at the corner of his mouth as Han mentioned Leia having his head. As much as he hated the fighting they did, his mother’s defense of him was very pleasant to think about. “Since when has making her mad ever stopped you?” He asked, eyes following Han’s every move. Probably a bit unsettling for his old man, always being watched, yet little enough spoken between them to know what his son was thinking.

“Since I’m coming, Chewie still gets to come, right?” Ben asked, referencing taking up the passenger’s seat, which was typically the scraggly mutt’s co-piloting spot.

"You're too damn smart for your own good, you know that?" Han chuckled at his kid's wise ass crack, knowing he'd say something of the same if he was in his shoes, and it made him weirdly proud. His eyes met Ben's when he felt his stare and he smiled, a big goofy grin at his son, happy to have this bit of calm with Ben.

"Of course, if you don't mind him breathing and drooling on you." Once the coffee was done, Han grabbed a mug and filled it up, taking a sip of it too soon and wincing at the burn on his tongue. "And stickin' up the joint too."

Ben's jaw wound tightly, clenching in annoyance. He knew that his father was appealing to his empathetic nature. A quality he had, for years, tried to ignore. For a moment, he could easily imagine how Han felt. Only because his father's absence was just as notable as Han's own. At least to him.

"Interesting, a subject we can finally relate to one another on."

Han was around when he was really young, less so as he got older and his father's work took him elsewhere. But after the divorce? Han was as good as dead... Save for haunting phone calls that were usually a week too late for his birthday. Just a forgetful old man. Nothing to do with being the last thing on Han's mind.

He tried to be as cutting back, but it fell flat, fell like the look on his face. Han had regrets, he had many, and not being around for his son was right at the top of the list. Admitting that wouldn't matter, he knew, but he was trying to turn over a new leaf. He was... trying. Period.

"Look, Ben... I know I wasn't the best dad. I know it and I... honestly hate myself for it. But I'm here. Now. And I'm not going anywhere, so... c'mon. Give me a little grace."
