Some light & shadow studies of the sun reflecting over the water in South Haven, Michigan
On the road again.....
Visiting Grants Pass, Oregon, where my mom grew up, I took some alone time to walk around downtown & found these oddly themed bears everywhere. Though I'm not quit sure when they were put up, why, or for how long, it's clear this small town puts some work & pride into their unique bear sculptures. I think they're hilarious, but maybe it's the climate?
When I left China a few weeks ago, I flew outta Shanghai & met my family in LA to go on a road trip up the coast. Tried to document it the best I could without being too typical-amateur-photographer-cheesy but it's hard when there's so many landscapes & random wildlife.
Aw well, at least I got to capture these beautiful places.
Some abstract firework shots from the fourth of July. I was so focused on getting video I only tried to get a few still shots.
I really wanna try some experiments with sparklers now!
Welcome to my favorite perspective of electric forest at night.
Poi, gloving, stage, ferris wheel....any lights, all of the lights.
And then in the night time....things get weird. I loved trying to capture the different constantly morphing lights off the stages, but I especially enjoyed doing some long exposures & shooting video through my monocle.
These shots mostly show Sting Cheese on the Ranch Stage, going through the forest, & some during Cashmere Cat at the Tripolee Stage.
Some of my favorite totems/symbols I ran into during forest :)
Some more of my favorite moments of forest: catching a confused guy just holding a chair in the air, people playing limbo during Matt & Kim, some beautiful sweet girls I met at Kygo & ran into again later, & especially the guy at String Cheese who gave me his schedule so I could figure out if I was at the right stage just to find that Sunday was ripped out because he didn't want to leave :)
Though I have a ton more pictures from my travels through California & Oregon, I wanted to go ahead & post some of my favorite pictures from the Electric Forest music festival I attended this past weekend.
One of the main reasons I love taking pictures so much is to capture beauty as well as reality. Submerging oneself in the environment of a camping music festival is a unique & amazing experience. For me, It's a few days to take a break from your typical life to enjoy being around your friends, make new ones, enjoy getting dirty like a little kid from camping, & most importantly, to feel the music & all the emotions that it evokes within yourself so you can face your demons & center yourself.
The first couple days of EF I didn't take my camera around because I wanted to enjoy just being there & not feel like I was working. However, on the last day I missed it so much & wanted to capture the energy of the people & music radiating through the forest.
So these pictures convey some of my experience & show my perspective of some truly beautiful souls that all came together to celebrate being alive.
Hands down....the jellyfish were my favorite. They're so beautiful & graceful yet extremely deadly. Gotta love that duality.
While driving up the coast of California from LA to Grants Pass, Oregon, we stopped by an ocean research center in Santa Barbra. Absolutely loved taking pictures of all the creatures there.
And here's some quick shots of Disney's "World of Color" show which is basically an extreme light show which uses the ferris wheel, water spouts, lots of lights, & projections of Disney's scenes in coordination with their songs.
Wish I could've watched it from the ground to see the projections, but it was still awesome to watch from the top of the hotel.
Right after my China trip I flew into Los Angeles to meet up with some old friends followed by going to Disneyland with my family to Disneyland. Here's a couple shots of our trip during the day.
Some images of graffiti found on the streets of Beijing & Shanghai, but mostly of stencils, which are my favorite. Senseless tags that project a punk name simply trying to engulf public space makes me angry because its immature & ugly in my opinion. However, thoughtful stencils or wheat pastes are not only more beautiful, but also more meaningful with a specific message in mind.
While in Shanghai, I got to see one of my favorite street artists displayed at the "Power Station of Art" but couldn't be apart of the interactive project taking place outside the museum because it was closing. Regardless, it was awesome to see the photographs of his massive works, usually of people, which are specifically placed on buildings in certain areas to show the similarities between the cultures living there.
