Module Evaluation
_____________________________________________________
How well have you realised/achieved your original aims as described in your Statement of Intent?
This module has changed considerably from my original statement of intent to the images I have created. I had little confidence in my original idea, so I am pleased that it has evolved into this outcome.
I am satisfied with the overall outcome of the concept written in my revised statement of intent and the technical application of my project. I believe I chose the correct equipment for this type of work and remain content at the research and understanding I have achieved through this work.
I believe this project has been more of a progression of previous skills rather than any new skills learnt. From P10 – Negotiated Contemporary Practice I feel that my understanding of colour film and the Hasselblad medium format camera, as well as my confidence in creating a conceptually pleasing image has improved my current skills. With a strong use of Photoshop to adjust colours and saturation I feel I have more of an eye for the editing side of the images as well now, something which I did not feel confident in before.

How well did you manage your time?
Looking back, I feel that I could have managed my time better in many way. Due to the seasons this project started and finished in and the fact that I required the sun, I feel I would have benefited from more time in the Summer months to guarantee sun. As well as this module, for the majority of the time we had another module which required a lot of research and time. This ran alongside P11 for a while which will have impacted my time management. However I do feel I have completed this module to the highest standard I could.

What could have improved the outcome of this module?
At the beginning of the module I had a few in camera technical issues that could have been sorted better at the time. I also believe I should have shot more images early on so that I could iron out any issues at the beginning of the module and produce consistently good photographs. However, regardless of this I remain happy with the outcome of this module.

I have decided to use these box frames to display my final images. There will be 8 of these double hung at 19 inches a frame. The photographs themselves will be 6" x 6" and they will be printed onto matte paper and mounted accordingly. My exhibition statement will also be with the images.

As I initially stated I wanted to cause the unnoticed to become the subject and bring to the forefront the idea of a garden and the use of the space. My intention was to photograph the isolation and tranquillity of a garden which is commonly used as a place to escape.
I believe I have accomplished this within the time-scale I had and I am pleased with the results.
I managed to whittle down my images to 30 of the ones which I feel successfully communicate the intention of the work. I have stuck these onto a wall to begin to sequence them and cut it down to a final 8 images for submission and exhibition.

Isabella Seal’s most recent project explores the emotive response one has to a space. A mundane yet common environment, such as a garden can be found all over the world, in many different forms. By bringing this environment into focus, the unnoticed becomes the subject. This project comments on the idea of tranquillity and sanctuary of one’s personal space. Her project is photographed in a garden she grew up in which enables Isabella to project her own emotive response onto the images and create a deeper understanding of the connection one has to a particular space.
This work is still untitled as I am really not sure what to call it!

Isabella’s work has continually been about an emotive response to the environment. In her most recent project she brings the environment into the focus and causes the unnoticed to become the subject. Isabella photographs her family garden and transforms it into a space which is used as a conscious place to escape, a place of isolation and tranquillity, one which is sought after by many.

It has come around to the time where we are required to think about how we are going to display our images for the exhibition in a few weeks.
We had a final show exhibition meeting today and we were supposed to have decided the size our images will be and how many we will have. This was really difficult for me as I do not feel I have an edit ready to exhibit and therefore could not really say how big or how many there are going to be.
We also had to chose our catalogue images. These are three images which will become part of the catalogue given out to people for our final show. We had to create an 80 word statement about ourselves and our work - not easy!

Taken on the same day as film ten, so quite similar images.
Feel more positive about these results and believe I have plenty of images to chose my final edit ready for proper scanning and printing next week.

With only a couple of weeks until deadline I am trying to photograph every time we have sun and that is becoming scarce! As the seasons change plants are growing and so there is more to photograph. I am worried that my final edit might have too many similar images in it so I tried to find different aspects of the garden to photograph for the next two rolls.
Some of them are definitely working more than others b ut the problem I seem to have in the colours on this film. Some of the images have come out very green but this may be due to the subject. I will need to alter this in Photoshop as well as the saturation on some of the images so that my sequence goes together well.

This particular image is one I will be using in my final series. It is exactly what I wanted to show. I have focussed on the bright bush in the foreground but captured an essence of the space in the background. I really feels it shows the silence of a garden and the idea of escaping to nowhere well.

Feeling more confident with the results I am getting now. I feel there are more than just a couple of images that could be used in my final body of work here. I do seem to have a lot of images of trees which was not on purpose! However some are working. I prefer the ones with a narrow depth of field as I believe they do not give as much away which is what I am aiming for in my final body of work.
I am still worried about the final results as I feel I have photographed a lot of flowers and I hope it does not come across this way and people see them as images of a space and not of an object. This is why I feel I should add other images into the final series as well as close ups to help with showing the element of space.
