I think the reason the High Halls gauntlet (the fight before we can get the Conductor’s melody) is so hard, is to show us how Hornet was overpowered and kidnapped. There’s a Choral Commandment to abduct Hornet. "Full Chamber to the kingdom of the White Wyrm. Claim the Weaver, in half part. Last of their line. Sensed strong with Silk. Resistance anticipated. Quell with rune cage." I don’t know if the High Halls gauntlet is a Full Chamber.

I headcannon non-weaver bugs can manipulate/produce silk too. The pale king has infinite soul magic (I think?) but that doesn’t mean he is where all soul originates from. So Grand Mother Silk can produce infinite silk, but all silk doesn’t originate from her. I have that head cannon because of silk moths etc.

I have been struck by additional thoughts about this. I wonder if the Radiance and Grand Mother Silke might be related species, or however that would work for deities. A bit like how White Lady and Grey Root are both roots. And Black Wyrm and Pale King are both worms.

For their similarities/connections in appearance: The Radiance and Grand Mother Silk are about the same size. They also both have those funky legs. And they seem to have black heads, surrounded by white silk or light silver fluff. (Grand Mother Silk has no tits, but big bug ass. Radiance has big fluff tits, but no bug ass. Perfect dichotomy.)

In the manner of insect types: The Radiance could be a silk moth. I think a silk moth is the closest real moth she resembles anyways. And silk moths produce silk, more specifically as a silkworm when they make a cocoon to transform into a moth. (She doesn’t have to be a silk moth, but it’s fun for me to headcannon that.) Grand Mother Silk, literally is grandma silk. She’s a goddess of silk. Self-explanatory, she probably chose that name, and I’m proud of her. Meemaw silk the gilf. (You know a word that looks similar to gilf? Gold Bam I figured it out. Her legs are gold because she’s a gilf. Team Cherry must be higher beings themselves. They’re literally playing 5d chess.)

Magic-y connections: Although the Radiance resides in the dream realm, Grand Mother Silk doesn’t seem to be able to reside in the dream realm as well. Or maybe she can. Also, essence is the shape of dream catchers, but if I recall correctly, they trap memories, not dreams. Dream catchers look like spider webs, and Grand Mother Silk is basically a spider deity. And Silksong seems to surround memories, more than dream. I could take a proper look into the lore, but I don’t feel like doing the effort. I’m too lazy because I’m evil.

Miscellaneous: Grand Mother Silk created the Weavers, but from existing Pharlid bugs. I wonder if the Radiance did something similar to create the Moths.

Personality-wise, they’ve got similarities, but I don’t feel like doing brain-thinking stuff to make any connections on their personalities. They are both the main antagonists of their respective games. Queen behavior 👑

Somewhat unrelated thoughts: I wonder if deities have some sort of culture with cocoons. It’s very fun to imagine the gods having their own separate society, mythos, and culture stuff, but in a very alien way compared to people who are not gods. In a way that we can’t quite comprehend. (Also pantheon of the gods thing reminds me of the pantheon in ancient Greek mythology, and how the gods had their own realm they hung out in. Although not completely alike. Because the Ancient Greek pantheon concept is less alien-like than I’d want for it to be in Hollow Knight.) This cocoon thought sprouted because cocoon symbolism seems very common for higher beings - Grand Mother Silk sleeps in a big ole’ silk cocoon. Radiance is a moth, moths make cocoons. The Nightmare Heart is basically like a cocoon for Nightmare King Grimm. Lifeblood cocoons, my friends. The White Lady has her giant blue cocoon thing, maybe she uses it to transform into her big tree goddess form. Pale King does sort of an opposite, where his Wyrm body is a cocoon he sheds to become short king. (Oh my god, White Lady uses her cocoon to become a giant god that’s detached from the mortal realm sort of. And Pale King sheds his giant god form to become attached to the mortal realm or whatever. I wonder if being bigger makes a higher being less connected to ‘earthly’ matters. Or they transcend past these ‘earthly’ matters.) If we want to give Unn a cocoon, we could maybe interpret her acid lake as a sort of cocoon, if we stretch some symbolism or whatever. Maybe gods sleep in cocoons to create stuff more like how Unn sleeps to retain Greenpath idfk. That’d be fun to imagine if the Radiance had her own cocoon arc. I feel like that’d give her more backstory about her time in the real world and how she interacted with the moths.

And oh my fuck, Pure Vessel is in the Black Egg, which can be symbolized as a cocoon.

-Actually wait. Maybe I shouldn’t label all this as cocoon symbolism for the god people, but as egg symbolism. *Insert seal saying egg* if I want to connect Unn to this egg symbolism, I could pretend she sleeps in a jelly like egg under her acid lake. …Or Greenpath itself is a giant egg. And her acid lake is the liquid stuff inside the of eggs. 🍳 I’m a genius. I don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about. Autism is like being on drugs just so you know.

Egg-cocoon symbolism could be both. It doesn’t have to be separate. Also, there’s interesting things about how emerging from an egg is symbolized as being born. And emerging from a cocoon is like symbolism of rebirth.

Generally unrelated thoughts: The etymology of ‘mare’ from nightmare is incubus, witch, sorcerer, or monster. The incubus probably explains why Grimm is a tumblr sexyman. The witch/sorcerer thing reminds me of the Grimmkin and the wisp thicket people. Monster is because Grimm is a spooky shape-shifter type of guy. He takes scary monster forms because he’s a theatre kid and needs the drama and edginess. (Definitely not because he’s a deity of fear).

Also interesting how Grand Mother Silk rapidly evolved or transformed the Pharlids into Weavers. It’s fun to think of Pharlids as Weaver’s monkey form. Like how humans are evolved monke. Mmm monke

Idk if any of my thoughts are cannon, most of it’s probably just headcannons ☺️. lol

The Citadel in Silksong and the Pantheon of Gods in Hollow Knight seem very similar. I wonder if the Citadel was inspired by the Pantheon. They both give Heaven vibes.

Idea: The/One reason benches in hollow knight are comfortable to bugs and help them rest and recover and rejuvenate etc. is because the posture it forces bugs to take. The sitting on chair with legs touching/facing the ground posture is beneficial to bugs. Maybe not helpful mentally. They can’t sleep well on the benches. It doesn’t increase stress, but they are unable to have deep sleep. Which is why they have beds. And beds are physically a bit more beneficial than benches for non-higher being bugs.

Rule #34 by Fish in a Birdcage is making me think of Pure Vessel and Radiance

With my toxic RadiHollow obsession, I am also working on a little comic of the sealing of the Pure Vessel. And it will have arranged marriage symbolism and parallels. I’m projecting oldest daughter syndrome onto Pure Vessel, and marrying someone they don’t want to, but do it anyways for their family/kingdom.

PK leading PV through the kingdom and into The Temple of The Black Egg reminds me of a father leading his daughter down the wedding aisle. Which historically is done for misogynistic purposes. Daughters are property of fathers until their ownership is transferred to their husbands. PV is now ‘under ownership’ of the Radiance. PK or the Dreamers feel like wedding officiants or witnesses to the marriage. The area where PV is chained feels like a wedding alter. Alters can be used for heinous reasons, such as human sacrifice, which is also what feels like PV is going through. PV is sacrificed/married on a ritualistic alter. All of this just reminds me of how much oldest daughter syndromers sacrifice of themselves for the family and the tragedy of it all. (Also, PV losing their arm and their body rotting and crumbling and cracking reminds me of oldest daughter syndromers losing parts of themselves, breaking under pressure, developing chronic pain.)

I wonder if Team Cherry was somewhat inspired by by Zoteboat, which is partially what inspired them to make Sea of Sorrow. It’s like 50/50 if it’s true, but that would be so fucking hilarious if it is. I would go insane over a Zoteboat reference in Sea of Sorrow.

The baby vessels look like kodama from Princess Mononoke! Also it’s cool that kodama are little tree/forest spirits and the vessels’ mom is basically a tree goddess.

In silksong, the chapels that hold the corpses(?) remind me of the dreamers in hollow knight. They are both protected by enemies. Maybe the corpses are actually dreamers idk. I really want to draw them when they were alive, they’d look so cool!

I headcannon that in silksong, the reason Hornet doesn’t just make her own crafting kits and tool pouches is because these items are made of special materials. Her weapons and tools to build could tear/break apart or scratch or rip the kits and pouches if they were made insufficiently. So it’s easier to get these items from others, who have already made those.

Rule #34 by Fish in a Birdcage is making me think of Pure Vessel and Radiance

I'm too lazy to research about this right now, but I wanted to post this so I wouldn't forget the idea. I think Pure Vessel has a specific arm it use's for casting magic. And that arm is the one we see has rotted off or was removed in some way in the chamber it is sealed in. Maybe Pure Vessel removed the arm when it started weaking from the Radiance, because she was trying to use it's magic arm for some reason idk.

Ive been speculating about the extent of the pale king’s foresight

How far in the future could he see? Did he see all possibilities or only the way forward? If he saw that an eternal kingdom was impossible why try? Did he intentionally create the hollow knight flawed foreseeing the eventual clash between the knight and radiance?

If he sees the full future would it be foolish to try to fullfill it or foolish to fight against it? Is this a sisyphus happy moment?

au idea: PK is cursed with not having foresight to see the best possible outcome. He doesn’t know he has this curse. (Am I going to write this? Most likely not.)

I suck at writing what I'm intending to explain. What I meant was an au where PK's foresight is limited. It hides the best possible outcomes. He does not know this. He is so certain that the future is only doomed. A self fulfilled prophecy. Destiny set in stone.

Hollow knight world building idea: artificial wings. We do have cogflies and wingsmolds, but it’s fun to imagine equip-able artificial wings for non-flying bug people.

Also, the world of hollow knight probably doesn’t have real-life aircraft, it wouldn’t be practical for tunnels. But if there is travel on the surface, it’d be fun to imagine aircraft that looks like Ghibli’s fantasy aircraft (particularly Howl’s moving castle). I like the idea that Hornet has microscopic vision. I’m not sure what kind, but her vision isn’t electron microscopic. This is a great boon her tool building.
