Greetings. My name is Jonathan Fanshawe. Through a series of events that I assume to be a work of the Dread Powers, I had been sent almost two centuries into the future. One thing I'm sure of is that such occurrences have no reason but to torture the person unlucky enough to cross any of those forces. Struggling against it will not save me, for there is no escape if they decided to make you one of their targets.

I simply don't think that it makes sense for me to be a puppy. A dog, yes, but puppies are typically enthusiastic, naive, cute creatures – which of those descriptions fits me on any level?

Jonah, I'm afraid you are misrepresenting me. Your incessant aches are not the normal state for a human being; it is indeed not supposed to hurt that often. Although it is not unheard of for a body to ache for no apparent reason, I'm afraid your pain goes beyond a mere inconvenience.

And, ah—I was rather under the impression that people's bodies do begin to ache as they become adults, dearest. Everyone complains about it now and then. I rather fail to see how this is much different?
And of course the moment I indulge in a little complaining, everyone begins to harass me. Hmph.
The difference lies primarily in frequency, intensity, and the source of your aches. Indeed, the body weakens with time, but you are very young, and it is certainly unexpected for someone your age to experience pain – ah, forgive me, – aching so often.
In addition, your aches are disturbed by activities that are not typically painful to most people, especially of your age – they are not always painful to me, and I am twice as old and falling apart.
Yes, excessive attention to one's issues is certainly unpleasant to the target of that harassment, but perhaps this active reaction should convince you that it is not as common of a thing as you seem to believe.

...I would like that, so I will have to consider your offer. Jonathan is, ah... Well. He says he's not well-fed enough to do it with supernatural means, and I imagine removing extra appendages isn't necessarily something he's skilled in.
Though, ah, between you and me, I do believe he simply thinks I am more endearing like this.
I'll have you know that removing appendages was a significant part of my job. However, they were not extra appendages, and the process itself was quite gruesome and very painful. I simply don't want to put you through it.
If you cannot bring yourself to do it, give the word. The appendages seem to be quite the displeasure, and surely you would not like to see our dear Jonah so uncomfortable, would you?

The tail could be removed without much hassle, but what do you suggest we do about the ears, hm? As I see it, there is no way to go about them without leaving Jonah in a worse state. I imagine the discomfort of a few new appendages is not as great as the discomfort he would experience at the impairment of his hearing.
I had presumed they were purely an aesthetic addition. Of course, I intended to assess the risk of removing them, and confirm it to be true before I made any move to make any cuts. I am not so foolish.
I know a certain few who may be able to manipulate it all away without a hitch. Not doctors, though no less experienced with flesh.
As his physician, I am strongly against any experimental treatments, especially performed by amateurs. Unless you are willing to prove that it is safe. You share this curious condition with my patient, if I am not mistaken, so why not try it on yourself?
