☠ - March Hare (@neverendingteaparty)
Elsie’s heart pounded feverishly against her sternum as she recognized the woman now pinning her to the brick wall of the nearest alleyway. Oh, this was not good. Their last meeting had ended on very poor terms, and Elsie was 99% sure she’d been personally responsible for getting March Hare sent to Blackgate on more than one occasion. She clenched her jaw in mute terror, not daring to move a muscle.

Elsie didn’t know what to say. Going out on her own to investigate was already bordering vigilante justice, (although current administration was already considerably lax on that particular charge), but working with organized criminals without the knowledge of Commissioner Gordon? That wasn’t a line she was willing to cross. She sputtered for something to say; thankfully, Edward broke the silence for her.
“The GCPD has resources that are undeniably valuable in a case such as this,” Edward said, palming the handle of his cane and beginning to twirl it idly as he reasoned aloud. “However, Gordon isn’t going to work with criminals again unless he absolutely has to, and he’s certainly not going to bring two onto the case. Given the legal elusivity of Sionis, however, and the cost on the line, he’s going to turn to a detective who doesn’t need a badge.”
“You mean the Bat? Isn’t he going to be more trouble for us?”
By ‘us’ she meant herself and Nygma. Elsie was just another cop, nevermind that not being her actual title. Harriet didn’t look at Elsie at this point. She was pissed. She had actually been growing quite fond of her. She should have seen this coming the second they teamed up.
"Yes, unfortunately," Edward said with a sigh. "However, if I were a betting man, I'd wager just about anything that he's already been on this case from the beginning. Missing children, Sionis...the detective wouldn't let that slide, even if he were busy with other cases." Not missing a beat, he turned to regard Elsie. "Isn't that right?"
"...Yes, that's right," Elsie admitted, albeit a bit hesitantly. "There was an incident at the old Vitti mansion where we found evidence suggesting one of the missing children had been there. When I went to investigate, I found the old Prohibition tunnels were being used, and ran into some of Sionis' men. Batman showed up to deal with the situation, and he's had access to our case files on it since then."
Elsie couldn't miss March Hare's contempt even if she tried, and she couldn't help being a bit frustrated. Couldn't she understand that this situation was delicate? No, Elsie realized with a bit of a huff, she probably couldn't. Edward had at least made a point of attempting to reform, but March Hare went around town dressed as a glorified rabbit and toting a tommy gun for fun. 'Delicate' obviously wasn't in her vocabulary. At any rate, Elsie wasn't going to let her rush headlong into this and potentially put those children in even more danger than they already were in.
