"Relationships with patientsā¦" He began, placing a hand over his mouth as he raised its twin in the air in circles, as if at a struggle to find the words. "They seem too look very misleading at times. In which case, Iām at fear for my career because of that very reasoning." Avoiding her eyes, he aligned a hand against the back of his neck, eyes averted to the floor. "As vague as that may seem to sound, itās all I can say while still stepping over eggshells."
Rawles sighed again, popping her hip out as she placed all her weight on one foot, propping the other against the surface of the wall. The two were encompassed in silence as she thought, not knowing what just to reply back to the other. She ran a hand through her blonde locks, loosely shaking the strand by the part, breifly wondering if she should have worn it up that day. Her gaze was glued to the floor around her feet, running over the shiny surface of her stilettos again and again. "I trust you to do the right thing."
"-Doctor Rawles, how close would you consider is too close to these patients?" The brunet began, a strained, and troubled adorning his face. "Because lately, I feel like these patients and a lot less like patients, and a lot more like leeches."
Her brows furrowed at the question, recalling that she had asked the very same question not too long ago. She sighed and looked away, pushing her fingers against her lips as she fought for an answer. "I think this is a struggle we all face in some point or another." She glanced at him. "You can be their friend and you can be a companion, but you must be careful... because to go any further, the head might be displeased."
"No louder than usual, just more persistent and harmful."
"I see... What exactly have they been saying to you?"
Amelia took the necessities from dr. Rawles, placing a rag behind her neck to cool the blood pumping to her head. She poured a glass of water to herself and took the pills. āThank you, dr. Rawles. The migraine mixed with voices is never a good combination to me.ā
The blonde watched her closely, eyes close on every moment. A smile spread across her face after the patient spoke, reaching a hand to softly pat the girl's shoulder. "I would imagine so. Have they been very loud lately?"
"Itās not too early to transfer to a different asylum to work at, is it?"
What's wrong? Did something happen?
"Itās high above ten, Dr. Rawles. Even light bothers me. Would you mind if I drew on the curtains, please?"
"Sounds like a migraine." Rawles noted with a nod, standing to cross the room to speak with a nurse. She returned after a moment with a wet rag and a small cup containing two pills. "Here you are."
"God, my head hurts. Does anyone have an Aspirin or something?"
"Amelia," The older woman paused her flipping through documents and placed her eyes on the brunette, tilting her head in acknowledgement. "Please rate it for me on a scale of one to ten."
I think Iām okayā¦do I look okay?
You look fine, Nathan. It's how you feel that matters.
How do you feel?
I suppose. Doctor Rawlesā¦.how long do you think Ashtyn will be in a coma forā¦what happened?
I... don't know.
I wish I could say, but these sort of things-- no one really knows.
Iāve told him before but he told me thatā¦it was inappropriate to call me by my first name.
He's just trying to be formal, Nathan. There's really no wrong in that.
He calls me Mr. Morales and he scares meā¦the way he eyes me.
That is your name, isn't it? Did you tell it makes you uncomfortable being referred to as such? He isn't a mindreader, you know.
I was instructed by Charlie- I mean Dr.Sterling to not force it. Iām not going to be one to openly go out there searching for the right person. Iāll continue my line of work and hope someday theyāll just fall into place. Iām certain Iāll find someone eventually, I just donā know when. And strangely enough- It doesnāt bother me.
I was born into a rich family, corporate father had us move place to place in search of the best private schooling money could buy. Eventually, I ended up residing here ones I obtained my medical degree. Overall, city life is really all Iāve ever known.
Sounds like the best plan. I try to go on dates every now and then, or go on an outing with friends I've made. The people around here are very friendly so you shouldn't have any trouble making friends and whatnot.Ā
Ah, I see. Can't sleep without that noise, I assume. The cicadas really had me stumped those first few days, because I needed the car alarm and other various sounds you hear in the night.
I think doctor Everett hates me.
What makes you think that?
I toggle between wanting to share a living space and deciding against it. Friendships and relationships havenāt really been a priority of mine in the passing years, my focus was my work and education. Now with both under control I canāt help but, develop the slight yearning to have someone around.Ā
I can imagine. I was lucky enough to have it easy for myself, however.
I can respect that. There's nothing wrong being ambitious, especially if you have the intelligence and skill to get you places. But I'm sure you'll find the right person to fill that spot in your life.
My internship was in Florida, so I had to grow used to the hot and humid climate. A big change from New York.
It was one of my dadās hobbiesā¦filming me, and watching it like it was porn tapesā¦
I-I Iām s-sorry Iām so much trouble. I want to get better but I seem to be making so many things worse.
Don't apologize. You're off to a good start. Recovery takes time.
