Ryker was crashing at his bestfriends place while his was being renovated. Most nights were spent gossiping over different boys around town. “No, he’s a piece of shit, trust me.”

Ryker wasn’t used to people coming on his door, especially late at night. He pulled himself from the sofa and sluggishly opened the door. “You know, it’s a little early for trick-or-treating.” The man mumbled, rubbing his eyes in attempts to focus on who was in front of him.

“Well personally, I’d use it to your advantage. Blackmail is such a beautiful thing.”

The message lasted about four minutes, and Maddie had gone on about how much she loved Ryker, how amazing he was and thanking him for always being there for her. She was the only person who had known his soft side, and now Andrew was seeing it first hand. “She was my best friend.” He said, pushing his phone back into his pocket.

He wasn’t quite sure what to say other than that. He had never been good with words. Letting go of Ryker’s hand he looked to him. “Do you need me to do anything?”

Never before had Ryker felt that so called spark and it was the most amazing feeling in the world. It wasn’t his first kiss, but the first kiss that mattered: the first kiss with someone who mattered. He didn’t want to pull away, fearing that if he did the spark would be gone. It was Lizzie though and he felt in his heart that it could last with her. He pulled back a tiny bit, not wanting to rush into things since it was all still new. “Wow…” He whispered. 

The kiss itself was so…different than anything she had experienced before that it was almost intense. It almost felt as if a piece of herself was coming home. Which was absurd, wasn’t it? She and Ryker hadn’t known one another long. Hell, part of her couldn’t actually believe she was kissing him right now. Professionally, she knew it was wrong. She was his boss, but emotionally it felt right. “Wow…” She echoed, the corners of her lips quirking up, blue eyes opening to stare into his as their foreheads rested gently against one another.

There certainly was something more exciting about the whole situation with Lizzie. The way they had to sneak around and keep flirting to a minimum. It gave him a rush.  He went to kiss her again, but the sound of his pager interrupted that. He glanced down at it and let out a soft sigh. “Duty calls.”

“Okay.” Ryker replied, taking the chard and starting to read it. He half didn’t pay attention to the next few things Alex was saying but could faintly hear Karev still talking. “Uh parents, right. I can deal with that. Picked up a few things in the past year.” 

“If you say so kid– now get in there and start, like I said I’ll observe.” Alex rolled his eyes at the intern. He knew he was going to mess up– he could feel really in his gut.

Proving people wrong was Ryker’s forte, so he walked into the room with a bright smile and full confidence in his speech. He spoke to both the parents and the patient at the same time, making sure they all understood what he was going to do.
