I have FINALLY watched the 8 episodes of The Amazing Digital Circus aside from the finale and i gotta say,
Its alright. Its okay. Its not bad. I would say that its prettyyyyyyy gooooddddddddddd.
Its not like, mind blowing or anything. Im not going "OH MY GOD IM GONNA FUCKING CUM!!!" After each episode ends. I just think "yeah it was good." I think the glaze the show gets is a bit out of control but I can say that about a lot of media.
It got me to laugh a few times, there were some clever jokes here and there that geuinely got me laughing and replaying them. Sometimes the dialogue feels very, theatre kid energy? The way stuff is said and written, its like a bunch of theatre kids wrote it down. Its hard to describe. They do that thing where a character says something but they kinda fuck it up and go "heh well, erm, you know what i mean, forget i said anything" multiple times and i wanna shrivel up into my own body.
Also there's SO MUCH telling no showing of character emotions and thoughts. Every episode has long expository therapy sessions between two characters and it gets to a point where it becomes white noise instead of feeling important or emotional. When it keeps happening, it doesnt feel special or rewarding, it just sorta happens.
This is how I feel basically about the writing.
Even though the show is very character focused, there isnt enough time to develop them and properly set up these glorified therapy talks. 9 episodes that last for 25 minutes isnt enough in my eyes.
I dont know what kind of theme or message the show is trying to tell me or suggest to me. Its trying to feel inspirational with characters giving talking points that basically boil down to some Parappa the Rapper "i gotta believe!!" ahh type shit, but the talking points dont have a strong connection to each other with no theme to them. Its just, therapy talk. Like the writer is having a therapy session with themselves.
I get WHY people would find it very engaging, but to me? When there's barely any set up for it? It kinda, doesnt land for me? Sometimes I see it, i do see it reaching out to me, but it doesnt go all the way.
I prefer when the show actually acts subtle about the characters with their facial expressions and body language and it gets your brain thinking about what the hell is going on. Thats the engaging shit. Seeing Jax's facial animations shift from a place of real sincerity back to his big eye smile trace looking expression is the stuff that sticks in my brain. Not the expository therapy sessions.
But my god, the bouncy animation? The character designs? The colours and the sounds? Thats the best part of the show. The visuals are what probably attracted millions of fans. The character designs are simple but do tell a lot about who the characters are and are well thought out. Zooble and Gangle especially. Zooble always changes her design each episode as she talks about not feeling comfortable in her own body, Gangle is always MASKing her true feelings out of shyness, Jax nearly always has large black eyes and a wide smile which makes him feel kind of off, esc. They somehow made Caine, a large set of teeth and eyes, one of the most expressive characters I've seen in animation.
The show at points does feel like style over substance, but when the substance does shine it feels good. It just needed more time.
Also episode 8 is the best episode i dont care what anyone says.
Am i crazy for saying this but why does Wuhu Island look more colourful and better on the WII than THE SWITCH 2??
The volcano looks taller, the colours are more vibrant, the layout is different on Switch Sports Resort and makes less sense, the horizon's end point is less obvious on Wii, Idk what happened here bro. Its a hollow intimation of its past counterpart. Its like returning to your childhood home after 10 years and it feels so off.

You can play Rayman Legends RIGHT NOW for like 15 bucks and it'll only take up 3gb. Meanwhile this ugly ass shot for shot remake is gonna cost 100 dollars, have a digital deluxe that costs 140, AND it'll take up quadruple the storage space and run like shit.
Stop supporting these remakes in the hope of something new, if these studios actually gave a fuck they would make a brand new game. They are making a remake because its easy to make money with. You don't need to come up with anything new.
I wanted to ramble about something kind of not serious but at the same time something ive been thinking about for a little bit now, and its something I talked about to some friends on discord.
So I watched this video from some youtuber who talks about animation and anime, and it was basically 10 to 20 minutes of Princess Bubblegum slander. It made me remember that there used to be this giant hate campaign for Princess Bubblegum and it was INSANE. Or at the very least a few years ago more people started to say some wild stuff out of nowhere. People saying "she manipulated an under-age kid to doing work for her for free. Gave him a son without his consent (FUCKING STORMO FYI) and put his son in an endless battle to prevent annihilatation from Goliad. She doesnt deserve a happy ending. Finn risked his life for her and he got nothing in return."
And then people compared her to MAKIMA!!! ONE OF THE MOST EVIL WOMEN IN FICTION, LIKE EVER?!?! I havent seen or read Chainsaw man but I know shes one evil son of a bitch. That is one of the most diabolical comparisons I've ever seen in my life. Like what are you even talking about? Because one of the storyboard artists who worked on Adventure Time made an art piece of Princess Bubblegum as Makima we're gonna take that seriously like its making a statement?

Why are you treating a literal pile of biologically immortal bubblegum on some high moral standard from the real world? You cannot tell me that using Finn's DNA to make a rival to Goliad so that they dont destroy the entire Land of Ooo is some immoral action when Finn was clearly content with Stormo's existence and Finn is fully aware that Bubblegum does experiments and scientific things. Finn making the comment that Stormo is like his son is something a young boy would say, rather than saying "oh hes like my clone" instead. You cannot treat that as something truly evil and fucked up because Bubblegum did it to stop the world from being destroyed by an incredibly powerful creature who can control people's bodies. She didn't break Finn's consent for anything. Don't treat this like its some gross action when what she did was pluck a single hair strand from Finn and thats it. By all accounts all what Bubblegum did was make a being that used Finn's heroic DNA to counteract Goliad. Thats it.
Also i wanna say about how Bubblegum doesnt reward Finn. Finn just loves adventure? He does what he does because HES A FUCKING HERO!!! Do you think Spider-Man helps people because he wants rewards? Look at what happened when Spidey wanted money... Do you think Superman wants a reward because of his heorics? Do you think Link wants 50 chests full of rupees when hes done saving the world? Do you think Sonic the Hedgehog demands 10,000 rings in his paypal account when he's done? No, he saves the world or he helps someone's problems and leaves. Finn helps out Bubblegum because they are friends!!! And hes a good guy!!! THATS JUST A COMMON TROPE! THE HERO HELPS THE PRINCESS!!!! FINN JUST LOVES ADVENTURE AND FIGHTING EVIL!!! THATS THE REWARD FOR HIM! HAVE YOU PLAYED AN ADVENTURE GAME BEFORE? HAVE YOU WATCHED ANYTHING?! AT ALL?! VERY COMMON TROPE!!!
People treating a CARTOON character's wacky actions to initiate the plot to occur as something really really serious and like its an actual real life person or a character for an adult show is genuinely INSANE!!!! I DONT EVEN KNOW IF ITS IRONIC OR THESE PEOPLE ARE BEING FR LMAO! I genuinely dont know if these people are joking because ive seen some AWFUL takes in my lifetime. You think Marceline would fall in love with the kind of person these people describe Bubblegum as?
Now look, i havent finished all of Adventure Time as ive only gotten to season 6 and i really burnt myself out of watching the show because there is so much show to watch and i got other things to do. She could have committed a fucking genocide in season 8 and I wouldn't know about it until someone told me. I barely remember how the show ends and ive watched Together Again from Distant Lands and fucking cried so hard.
And remember, this is coming from the guy who went to war for Callie Cuttlefish and wanted people to respect the depth that was poorly explained by the writers.
What is with me and pink characters? Why do I gotta go into ultra defence mode for them? Maybe I just REALLY like pink.
