I have a ghost king headcannon for Danny that he’s not yet old enough to possess ALL of the Ghost King powers, HOWEVER, he CAN do anything once a deal is made. For example:

The Justice League asks Danny to destroy an alien army so earth will be safe:

Danny: cool yea I can totally do that but I’m gonna need you to do something for me in return

JL: huh?

Cass : can’t spell (I honest to fuck couldn’t spell my surname until I was 13)

Jason : ignore all of his own injuries no matter how bad and then proceeds to watch anyone else who’s injured like a hawk even if it’s literally nothing

Steph : keeps accidentally convincing drunk people she’s like… to be trusted, every time she’s around drunk people they cling to her

Duke : puts over ear headphones on his thigh whenever he’s not using them, and (he gets 2 bc he’s my favourite) starts going crazy after going too long without new piercing/body mod

Damian : says “don’t fall in” or “have fun” every time someone says they’re going to the toilet

Being a Danny Phantom fan is so funny cuz like don't get me wrong I love the show we got but damn would that show benefit so much from not being a nickelodeon show made by a dude who's scared for his show about ghosts to be about ghosts.

Like here you have this teen ghost vigilante who's parents are his biggest enemies completely unaware that they're hunting their own son.

His rouges gallery all know his secret identity and are all these ethereal species from what is essentially a purgatory dimension some of which have actual canon deaths.

He's gone up against the king of ghosts, the spectral embodiment of nature, halloween,sleep and time his future self and so much more, it deals with depression, self loathing, insecurities etc.

And then in that same show with all these concepts there isn't a single overarching story arc(aside from the occasional 2 parter), they constantly undercut serious moments with shit like exploding hot sauce packets and then the show ends with one of the lamest endings ever while the creator 20 years later tries to convince you that the ghosts in the series were never ghosts thus undermining 90% of what makes the show so interesting to begin with while simultaneously mischaracterizing damn near every character in the show.

Like and again I love Danny Phantom...it's cuz I love it that I can talk shit about it but damn was it frustrating asf being a fan before the graphic novels dropped and actually decided to take the show serious.

And this isn't me trying to say that I think Dp should be dark and edgy cuz contrary to my own au😅 i love the funny and light hearted parts of the show but idk it always felt to me like the show desperately wanted to be something that was taken seriously while the people behind it were terrified to actually take it that far.

Okay what if: Reverse Danny Phantom?

AKA: humans are ghosts and ghosts are humans

Yo Danny Phantom he was just 14 when his parents built a very human machine, it was designed to view a living world unseen. When it didn’t quite work, his folks just quit, but then Danny took a look inside of it. There was a great big flash and things just changed, his ectoplasm got all rearranged!!

When he first woke up he realized, he had jet black hair and pale blue eyes!

It was then that he knew what he had to do, he had to stop all the humans that were coming through!!

He’s a human, human, human.

AKA: the Phantoms are a family of ghosts in the Infinite Realms, but Jack and Maddie Phantom are very curious about the world of the living. They make a device and when it doesn’t quite work, Danny Phantom is the one who accidentally turns it on and has his unlife half revived!

Now he has to pretend to be Danny Fenton, a living and breathing human who can pass through walls in the Ghost Zone and use his weird powers like Breathing and a Beating Heart to stop the Ghost Investigation Ward that starts trying to come through the portal.

While Danny Phantom goes to school and tries to continue his life has normal while also keeping his double identity a secret, the question arises if Danny Fenton is a new local hero or if he is just as villainous as the GIW

Idk if it would be like a 1for1 switch over for all of the characters? Like maybe Sam and Tucker are ghosts too because they’re friends with Danny, but what about Valerie? Would she still be a Ghost Hunter or a Human Hunter?

So now are all of the ghosts in the show just casual people that Danny Phantom sees around his neighborhood in the Infinite Realm, or do they become humans that are hunting ghosts?

Now as for powers, obvs ghosts have powers (intangibility, invisibility, flight, ecto-blast, etc etc, and what ever signature trait) however! What if when ghosts are in the Infinite Realms, they can’t use those powers? In the show, it’s already canon that ghosts can’t phase through solid objects in the realms and yet humans can, so what if that is just extended to all powers?? Then, regular ghost Danny Phantom discovers that his alternate form, Danny Fenton, is able to harness the power of the realms and use his powers.

Idk, something something, Ghosts in the Ghost Zone have their powers dampened just like Humans in the Human Zone have their powers dampened, but when a Ghost goes to the Human Zone or a Human goes to the Ghost Zone, then they have access to their powers again.

But why would ghosts he so curious about the living world? Are all ghosts souls of people who passed away and they don’t remember their living lives? Which would that mean that Jack and Maddie adopted Jazz and Danny, or maybe they were a living family that died? Or are their some ghosts that are deceased souls and other ghosts that are born from ghost parents?

The Debt Has Been Paid

If Danny had been paying even an ounce more of attention to his surroundings he would have noticed a figure poking out of the alley way in front of him. He wasn’t though, so Danny was completely caught off guard when said figure pulled him into the alley, knife being pressed against his skin with demands that he hand over his wallet. 

This honestly wasn’t that big of a deal to Danny; more of an annoyance if anything as the only thing he wants to do right now is go home and eat his takeout. Before he can make that known though with a snarky comment another person, Red Robin he notes, is dropping from the sky and pulling the mugger away from him. 

The altercation is over before it even begins, saving Danny his energy, time, and having to reheat his food. 

The whole event was put behind him by the time he woke up the next morning. Danny probably wouldn't have even thought more about it if it hadn’t been for the fact that a week later he found himself in the JL space station due to a summoning for the Ghost King. 

At first Danny thinks that maybe his run in with Red Robin somehow led to them connecting his human side to his ghost side. Luckily, that wasn’t the case though and they were only needing some help with a ghost that was causing problems in one of their cities. Which he was gladly and easily able to help them with. 

The only point of conflict is when the JL refuses to accept a “free favor” from him, and demands that he ask something from them. Danny really doesn’t want anything from them though, and so in a moment of genius locks eyes with Batman and tells him. 

“The debt has already been paid; send Red Robin my thanks.”

other superheros get training from their mentors, from the super secret society, from alien tech,from the monks or they have some kind of military background.

phantom, on the other hand, got training from the firefighters in his town after he crashed on their cases one too many times and they decided that "yup, if your gonna try to help, might aswell give you some training so you could be useful.", he got training from the paramedics because they were worried he wouldn't know how to help an injured human, he got training from his local town detective who smokes too much and gives him cookies when he can help with his Ghost senses and figure out if this was a human crime or a ghost crime.

Y’know. Everyone likes to go “ghosts bond by fighting” but never really back it up with Danny interacting with the Batfam. He always bonds with them in the human way, which yea, that’s always nice. But I kinda wanna see Danny struggle with the human way.

Like, obviously he’s friends with Sam and Tucker without fighting them, but that’s just lasting affection from before his death. And yeah, his sister is Jazz, but she’s always been his sister, so there’s no change. But he fought Val. He bonded with Val the ghost way.

Gimme, post-Nasty Burger explosion or post-Bad Parents Fenton, Danny struggling to be in the Wayne family. Not because they’re obviously hiding something, or because they’re workaholics that… don’t seem to have jobs? No, his issue is that he doesn’t know how to interact with them.

Like, sure, Dick is always stating how excited he is that he’s got a new brother, but Danny just doesn’t feel it. Not like Danny feels it’s a betrayal to Jazz, but like Dick just seems distant. Yeah, Dick is very… huggy, let’s just say, and he’s constantly coming to Gotham to have “brotherly bonding” time with Danny and Dick does everything that Danny had ever imagined a big brother might do for him… but.

And of course Jason is there, he’s helping Danny with his English and Reading homework, he’s joking with Danny in the way that no one else is, he’s driving Danny from place to place, Jason is just… present, but.

And Tim, can’t forget Tim, Tim tinkers with projects with Danny and plays games with Danny and-

And Damian- Duke, Bruce, even Alfred!

But. But! Danny feels like an outsider looking in as he’s doing these activities with the Wayne’s. Not in a way of feeling like he’s inconveniencing these busy and important people, but in that he’s just hanging around with work friends he can barely remember the names of and definitely doesn’t have the phone numbers of (but he does, he has their phone numbers, he knows their names, he knows their favorite colors- what is wrong with him??)

And then it clicks, when he has to fight a misunderstanding Batman off. Because now Batman is his… friend? Dad? Now Batman is his something but why can’t he feel that way about Bruce?

And then he fights Nightwing in a panic and Nightwing becomes his… something. And it’s replicable. He fights every one of the Bats over a misunderstanding or because of some outside influence and they become his family even though he wanted this feeling with the Wayne’s and he doesn’t know what to do and it hurts that he doesn’t have this feeling with the Wayne’s and it almost feels like a betrayal to their efforts and-

Then he finds out that the Wayne’s are the Bats.
