Little sketch for @priestessofnox! I know she loves Trolls and just got into Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, so I tried doing Branch and Poppy in that style. I like how Poppy turned out, though Branch looks like a gremlin more than a troll XD

Realized I forgot to uplooad these here! This was my other entry for Subjectively’s Mazah Region contest, their region based on Mexico. Researching, I fell in love with the Mexican Mole Lizard

This thing already looks like a pokemon! Perfect for a first form. The other thing I wanted to reference I decided was the Culebron, a Mexican/South American hairy dragon-like creature said to be able to hunt out treasure, eat that treasure...and also anything else in it’s path. Treasure hunting reminded me of metal detectors, so, I combined all of those together!

Tesquiro (Tesoror-Spanish for Treasure and Quirote, supposedly the Aztec word for Mole Lizard, though I’ve had trouble verifying that so if anyone knows better, let me know). The Metal Detector Pokmeon. Tesquiro are normally very nice and docile by nature, unless treasure is involved. The end of their tails work like metal detectors, helping them to find the best bits of metal, and their are very good at digging despite their size to collect it. They will get VERY territorial over their collected treasures as well. Slowly they try to consume the best bits they can because it’s said to help them evolve.

Culeboros (Culebron,see above, and Oroboros, a famous serpent alchemical symbol). Culeboros evolve from Tesquiro at level 35 or above after consuming a perfect gold nugget. Culeboros are very powerful, and very hard to control as they’re territorial and greedy nature has shot up 10x from their previous form. Their steel jaws are like excavators to dig through the earth in search for any treasure their tail senses. They will sometimes even submerge most of their body wait to spring out and trap those trying to steal their treasure. If they get very hungry for metal, they may even gnaw on the end of their tails!

I thought about making Culebron a dragon type as well, but I wanted to stick with the ground type and bring in steel. so he’s just dragon-like. But I did reference a pick of a two legged dragon, as well as a cute picture of Ekans, for the two.

So this was the first idea I came up with—I hope to do some more original ones later, but I’m really happy how these came out. I was a bit unsure about another humanoid ghost since there’s already the great design for Yorunaqua’s line,https://www.deviantart.com/subjectively5/art/Yoronaqua-Pokedex-868891208 but I really wanted to do a Ballet Folklorico dancer and Gardevoir seemed like the best choice (and Gallade is great for a Zorro/Bandolero which I also wanted).  I thought maybe they could play off of each other, which I wrote into their dex entries,  but I’m more than open to changing the secondary type from ghost if Dark or another type works best. I thought about keeping her psychic with the spinning skirts being hypnotizing, but that’s not enough change I thought…

Mazian Ralts: No one is sure how this line migrated to the Mazah region, but when they did they underwent quite a transformation. With the centuries of spiritual energy of Mazah flooding their empathic hearts, it overwhelmed them. They changed from Psychic/Fairy types to ghost types as they couldn’t take the onslaught of energy and had to shut off the receptor on their horns. However, this didn’t hurt them—in fact, it seemed to make Ralts bolder now that it cannot sense other people’s emotions! But they are not very good at understanding emotions now either. Rather than hiding, they can be rather naïve and follow anyone they think are interesting to learn more about emotions, even if those are negative. When a Mazian Ralts meets with a Lilorina, it’s been noted they try to become friends and cheer the weepy little pokemon up. Mazian adults aren’t as worried about Ralts and so let their children closer to them, so Lilorina will sometimes tag along to make friends.

Mazian Kirlia: These Kirlia are quite prone to trouble—after learning more about the world and the negative people in it, they want to fight to right wrongs and injustice! However, they still aren’t quite wise enough to find them and can easily be fooled or get carried away. Misunderstandings are common, but they try to make amends when they do wrong so they are often forgiven. They use their ghostly tricks to fight and still seem to dance across the battlefield, and when they think they’ve done good they dance with so much joy it brings a smile to any face! They still quite like Lilorina and look out for them, but often Yaquena are more skittish of them and jealous of how much others seem to love them.

Mazian Gardevoir: Female Kirlia no longer evolve with a dawn stone at level 30 or above—Instead, they evolve by leveling up in a thunderstorm while holding a magnet! Mazian Gardevoir takes the love of dance to a new level, spinning so quickly that their skirts pull in energy around them and generate it into electricity! They love high energy and will even pull it from electronic devices as well, so they enjoy the city quite a bit and thrive on change and keeping moving. The electric signals they can sense help them sense things in the air, but they are often so fiery and emotional that they can be hard to handle unless they are very close to their trainer and understand them perfectly. They love taking care of others as well though, including Lilorina and Yaquena—despite the latter two scared of this fully evolved pokemon! They also desperately try to make friends with Yoronauqa, despite them disliking their electricity and generally bright and shining personality.

Mazian Gallade: Male Kirlia no longer evolve with a dawn stone at level 30 or above—instead, they evolve after defeating 10 dark type pokemon in a row while holding metal coat! Mazian Gallade are seen as great heroes to regular people, but it’s “rob from the rich and give to the poor” attitude can rub the, well, rich the wrong way. They hate injustice and bullies and are much more serious than their female counterparts, but prefer to be alone as they try to appear more aloof and cool when really they just have a lot of anxiety about being liked…However they also greatly enjoy dancing and will happily dance with Gardevoir and others when it’s time to party. Gallade prefer to use the sword-like appendage on their arm to fight, but their other arm also has the ability to fling bits of metal incredibly fast despite their low speed. They also regularly defend children from Yoronaqua when they come to scare them, despite sometimes having been friends with her once…

So I decided to do Sliggoo evolutions for them all! And then I decided screw it, let's make GOODRA too! And honestly, I'm happy how most all of them turned out so I'm going to share them. And last but not least, probably my favorite of the bunch. I love the Blue Gaucus sea slug this goomy is based off of and ran with it as the inspiration. I like the first one and the almost dog-like, seal-ish quality of it's face and legs. I was trying to make it look regal and stout.

But I really love how Ryuugoo turned out. I focused on the wing-like fins Gaucus has, and eastern dragons, and I'm really proud how that watermane turned out. I referenced Haku from Spirited Away for his pose and mustache. At first I worried it was too different, but I loved the design too much and decided "well, it's going to be a regional evolution to whatever region it'd belong to!" The name Ryuugoo is a pun on Ryugu Palace, the undersea palace where the water dragon king lives in Japanese mythology. (I'm stupidly proud of this pun and yes, Ryu and Ryuu both mean dragon. I just figured go with the double "u" to match the double "O"). I decided to make them very moon based due to the tides, right down to using a moonstone to evolve since none of the others (maybe) don't use them. And yes, I made the shinies red like shiny gyarodos. I figure they might have a kind of rivalry if they ever met.

So a couple of months ago, the youtube channel PragMagik uploaded a "Goomy of Every Type" video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYlrsD… ) I love goomy and after watching a lot of videos by them and others I've been wanting to get back into making new pokemon. So I decided to do Sliggoo evolutions for them all! And then I decided screw it, let's make GOODRA too! And honestly, I'm happy how most all of them turned out so I'm going to share them. This one was interesting...It's a bit of a mishmash of things. Partially because I worried about making it too much like Magcargo or Slugma.  I really loved that shell so I focused on that and built a lot of the design around that and the Scaly Footed Gastropod (the snail with an iron shell that lives near volcanic vents this goomy was based on!) I tried a lot of designs for both, from genies to samurai, but ultimately I just sort of kept doing it until I liked the design I had. It might still have a little samurai influence...but also wierdly a lot of Xenomorph, from the Alien movies XD It's "blood" does melt things, though more fire than acid. It was the shape of the helmet that brought that to mind. But he doesn't mean to heat things up, he's a sweet heart. Blue just seems kind of natural for fire shinies, doesn't it?

This one was a ride. Sliggoo was easy, I knew I wanted him to have a "put'em up, put'em up!!" sort of attitude. Goodra was harder, until I remembered that Mayan Warriors supposedly used shells similar to the one the goomy was inspired by as boxing gloves! So I rean with that idea, added a shell to Sliggoo, and played around with different designs on Goodra till I got one I liked. I tried to make Goodra here look very tough and confident and SWOLE. Muscles everywhere. I may have channeled both Vegeta and Mike Tyson...(little bit of punch out references too)

The shinies are that sort of mottle green bruises turn when their old. Gross but I think it works.

For the most part Sliggoo wasn't hard on this one. I knew I wanted to make the back like a lollipop since it's a similar spiral to a snail-shell. The horns/tendrils were a bit harder, but I finally decided on this wrapped balloon-like look after I finished Goodra. I thought the tongue looking like it ate a bunch of candy was a fun touch.

Goodra was a little harder as I wasn't sure where to go with it. Then I thought of where candy could be found, thought of circuses, clowns, balloon animals--and really liked that idea! so I made him almost circus-clown like, with the ability to make balloon sculptures. I still kept the lollipop tail though. I'm really happy with the candy wrapper bow-tigh and clown shoes as well. I debated the liquorice eyebrow but decided it was important to see his expressions.

These guys seem simple, but gave me a bit of trouble. Rock is one of those that to me, feels like there's not a whole lot of ground left to cover. But I did my best and I'm pretty happy with them. I Referenced a lot of caves and formations for them, including the Dragons' Foot most appropriately. I had a much more complicated looking version but realized it needed to be streamlined quite a bit. And I'm so glad I did.

This is one I almost immediately knew what I wanted to do with Goodra before I even did Sliggoo. so really, I worked backwards on these but liked them both. I just kind of leaned into the aesthetic of Goomy, and then upped it each stage. Goodra I love though. I imagine those tentacles just weaving in and out, while it's lavalamp good slowly moves around it. I really went into the psychedelic seventies vibe with both of them but like Goodra a bit more.

Their shinies are pretty garish, I know, but I based them on black-light poster colors to add to that psychedelic vibe XD

This one was interesting to do. I like the concept for this poison-type being tar based, and really liked how my Sliggoo turned out. I tried to make him almost cave-man looking.

But for Goodra, I ended up doing this guy and loved him...but realized he didn't look a lot like Goodra. I thought about trying again, but I just enjoyed him too much and decided instead he'll be a sort of regional evolution--basically, his DNA is messed up from the tar-pits and got fused with other pokemon whos remains were there, and so now he's more like a velociraptor...with mammoth horns coming out of his head. They looked like Goodra's tendrils, okay? XD I added the hints of purple to give it more of a poison feel. The name comes from Theropod (a carnivorous dinosaur of a group whose members are typically bipedal and range from small and delicately built to very large), but using Tar and the "dra" ending from Goodra. The shinies were just kind of me playing around with colors.

I played with several ideas as far as this one, from orchestras to jazz bands. And ultimately, a military theme won for Sliggoo. I liked the idea of a tiny drill sergeant giving everyone grief and turned the horn shell into more of a helmet. For Goodra, first tried a tuba or sousaphone but it just wasn't working for me. Then I got the idea of a one man band and thought that would be fun and give a lot more variety! I tried not to go overboard and keep with a marching band theme as well.

For the shinies, including Goomy, I changed the grey to blue to make it more of a naval colors.

I love this little ice cream! I don't have anything against Vannilish or it's line, but this one is just super cute. So for Sliggoo, I wanted to lean into that tired sort of look and thought a tired ice cream might like a bowl(?). Keeping the little bit of shell on it's head led to the idea for the final evolution...

An Ice Cream Wizard! It's a little self-indulgent, but I really love how he turned out personally. I gave a an ice-cream ice staff too. I might redraw him in a more tired pose but I kept the same Goodra pose for many of them to make drawing them fast  I also added the pink and darker chocolate brown to make it like a Neapolitan sundae. Were the sprinkles overboard?

The shinies are more strawberry flavor, my personal favorite.

This one was...tough. While the original Goomy is super cute, I just wasn't sure where to take it further. I sort of just kept working on the idea of "flat" until I got a design I was somewhat happy with...I don't think it's my strongest, but I do think it's cute.

For Goodra, I liked the underside of some of the flatworms and sea slugs I looked at and wanted to do something witht hose patterns. I realized after it resembles a pharoh's regalia a little, but it wasn't on purpose XD The tail sucking up and shooting sand and rocks was an idea after looking at my shopvac do it.

The shinies I just made a little darker like wetter sand, with some blue to break up the brown.

I even made an instagram for it, we'll see how often I update that...The Grass Goomy design is by Gooompy (www.instagram.com/gooompy) This one was a lot of fun! I really like the banana slug idea. I really liked the idea of a banana peel "hair" or tentalcles and Sliggoo being fast because it's slippery, but threw in a little Tarzan reference with swinging from trees as well.

Goodra went a little harder with the Tarzan reference, but maybe more George of the Jungle actually XD My mother actually helped me a lot with this design and figuring out what would work best and suggested a banana tree tail. I kept the peel higher in the back almost like a disco collar.

So a couple of months ago, the youtube channel PragMagik uploaded a "Goomy of Every Type" video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYlrsD… ) I love goomy and after watching a lot of videos by them and others I've been wanting to get back into making new pokemon. So I decided to do Sliggoo evolutions for them all! And then I decided screw it, let's make GOODRA too! And honestly, I'm happy how most all of them turned out so I'm going to share them. I even made an instagram for it, we'll see how often I update that...The ghost Goomy design is by Gooompy (www.instagram.com/gooompy)

I really loved this goomy, it was so cute! I tried to capture that cuteness in Sliggoo as well--the little horns/ears almost look like a bow and I tried to evoke a kind of Caspar like energy.

For both Goomy and Goodra I gave a brighter outline to them because a lot of the sea-slugs and sea-angels I referenced had that and I really liked it. The little prongs down Goodra's tendrils are a reference Phylliroe, a deep sea slug that is almost transparent but is shaped and swims like a fish!

So I decided to do Sliggoo evolutions for them all! And then I decided screw it, let's make GOODRA too! And honestly, I'm happy how most all of them turned out so I'm going to share them. This one was actually kind of hard...the Goomy is super cute, but pretty simple so I struggled a bit with where to go with it. In the end I focused on a comment from the video that he based it on flat worms and magic carpets and pushed the magic carpet aspect a bit more. I kind of loved the curly mustache I drew and kept it.

When it came to Goodra I struggled even more. I first thought to maybe do a festival dragon, but I couldn't really get it to look right on Goodra's body. So I kept thinking on the magic carpet idea and where fine rugs come from and then I remembered reading about Whirling Dervishes in Turkey. Whirling Dervishes are those who practice a form of religious Sufi meditation where they spin around in circles, wearing billowing robes that spin out with them. It became a kind of synonym for something spinning around rapidly. They often perform this meditation for tourists as it is a bit of a spectacle. Now of course I don't mean this to be a joke about someone's religion, I have respect for the Dervishes and their methods of spiritual meditation and find it quite beautiful. Similar to Honchcrow or Claydol, I mean this more as an inspiration than any direct representation. This Goodra's lower tassles spin rapidly enough to lift it off the ground like a propeller, but it also likes spinning as it's own form of meditative dance.

The shinies were supposed to look almost copper-like since I like that light blue and copper combination.

I loved the concept for this Goomy because I love classic movie monsters and the Frankenstein motif. So I leaned into it a it more as far as a mad-scientist vibe as well. I imagine if animatted, The lightning would be traveling up Sliggoo's antennae like a Jacob's Ladder! I have him a very heavy brow as well an turned his shell into a copper coil.

For Goodra, I gave him a couple of tesla coils and a very sci-fi looking tail with restraints to keep referencing Frankenstein's monster. The star burst in his eye is a reference to a picture I saw once of someone's pupil after being electrocuted--it was, uh...creepy but cool and looked like a star burst. Not gonna link it.

And again like Frankenstein's monster, I made their shinies (including one for Goomy) Green as a reference to the old film where because it was in black and white, they made Boris Karloff's make-up green to show up better, hense why many think of the monster as green!
