Unpublished writer, always working on a novel. 20-something year old they/them, horror and fantasy enthusiast. If you like awful gay people in horrible situations, you’ve found the right place to be Side blog!
Hello, I’m S.! I’ve been writing on and off for most of my life and wrote the first draft of a novel a few years back. I typically write fantasy with horror elements and queer (but fucked up) romance subplots. Despite there being literal monsters in the text, you will most often find that the true monsters are people. I write a lot of gothic-inspired works.
I have a number of novel ideas bouncing back in forth in my head with various levels of being worked on, but hopefully I’ll commit to one and get a first draft out there with a little motivation.
What you can expect to find here!
I’ll post snippets of my writing, ramble about themes, and generally talk about ideas or characters that catch my interest.
There will be a lot of talk of knives, blood, grief, guilt, death, and struggle.
This is a side blog so I unfortunately don’t follow from here but if we vibe, I’ll follow from my main! I’m just shy.
I was trying to start posting here but as soon as I got excited about the prospect of it, I hit the worst writers block </3 I want to share so much and yet the well is dry !!!
This is a community call, or outreach, whatever you want to name it.
If you are, or you know, someone who is actively reading things for the purpose of giving feedback to just...help some authors out so they don't feel like they're out there writing for themselves alone:
REBLOG THIS WITH LINKS
Be sure to include genres and what you will/won't read or if you're interested but only in a reciprocal manner. Where you'll read if they will and you both tell each other what you like/don't.
I'm seeing more and more sad posts of authors who have things out, published things out, and they're not seeing reviews or feedback or anything. Even in communities made for specifically that.
Which is absurd. This is community basics. If you're in a writing community you give feedback when you can, you read each other's work, you're part of the process so everyone improves and keeps going because that's what it's about.
I would love to run a dedicated thing where I give mini-reviews but I don't have the spoons right now. I just don't.
I would love to help out with this! Unfortunately I am experiencing some burnout at the moment so I can’t give quick or immediate feedback like this post is calling for. I would love to when I am able so I’ll put myself out here anyway.
As for what I like and don’t like, I typically enjoy reading sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. This is not a limited list. For what I don’t like, I’d rather not read teen fiction, works that are mostly erotica, or pure romance stories (though I do enjoy romantic plots within a larger story). I lean toward heavier topics rather than light-hearted ones.
I’d prefer a reciprocal exchange but the burnout has also forced my own writing to come to a halt so I’d be open to exchanging more in the future. I have a nearly finished first draft of a novel that’s hovering scarily close to being abandoned as well as a few projects in their early stages.
Hope this helps, my messages and ask box are always open.
chat reminder to just write whatever the fuck you want. write that overused trope. write that obscure shit that no one will have heard of. just. do it. your writing is yours stop depriving it of that.
honestly in the era of AI slop it is more important than ever for you to write or draw that incredibly niche/strange/unpalatable thing you want to make. the world needs the unique weirdness of people more than ever
it's been a while (two years!!) since i've done a writeblr reintro, can you believe it? not a lot has really changed, but i have some new projects and professional developments to share, so here's to anyone who's new or simply looking for a reminder of the vibes!
— about me
I'm ashirisu (she/they) and I'm a fiction writer/editor based in the PNW. I'm a massive nerd for storytelling in all of its forms, and just about every hobby I have relates in some way back to writing, consuming, or (hyper)analyzing works of fiction.
I'm here to connect with more writers like myself who got their start in fandom spaces and are working to take their writing from a hobby into a career. I see you, I am you, I love you, let's be friends!
— about the blog
For what is ostensibly meant to be a writeblr, there's precious little writing on this blog. I'm trying to get better about sharing pieces that I don't intend to put on submission (since a lot of lit mags have strict rules about what constitutes a reprint and it's just easier to keep things in the vault), but most of what you'll likely see is reblogs and additions to advice and resource posts, as well as silly little posts about my process and the overall vibes of my writing.
My goal is really just to be able to talk shop with other writers without needing to filter everything through a marketing lens. I landed on tumblr because it's one of the last platforms out there that isn't overly reliant on algorithms and micro-trends, and also because I've been here in some form or other since 2011 and old habits die hard.
There will also be a lot of non-writing related posts and reblogs because I simply do not have it in me to run multiple side blogs!!! I'm sorry!!! I just want to laugh at silly jokes and be gay on main!!! So if you know me from work, no you don't!!!
— about my writing
I write primarily flash fiction and short stories, and my favorite genres are SFF, romance, and horror. Regardless of length or genre, all of my work features queer, neurodivergent protagonists in various states of emotional crisis.
I also do this professionally! I have a few craft books out, as well as a quarterly newsletter you can check out for more discussions and resources and such. I'll sometimes talk about that here, but I try to be chill bc I want y'all to think of me as a Cool™ editor.
— about my projects
Here are the things you'll most likely see me posting about:
Agnomen: My sci-fi reimagining of Hamlet and Coriolanus, currently in the first (official) draft stage. It's the only project that I've ever completed a zero draft for, and I'm determined to turn it into a functional novel/novella!

Flash Fiction / Short Stories: This is mostly what I write, but a lot of it is reserved for my writing group due to those aforementioned reprinting rules. I'll share my "just for fun" pieces on occasion, but I'm also always happy to share a link to my Drive if you're interested in seeing more!

D&D: Many of my shorts feature my D&D PCs. My current active PC is Leda, a reborn Circle of Stars Druid who is the saddest, loneliest girl in the world whose only friend for the first twenty-something years of her life was xenoanthropology. You'll also likely see a lot of Baz (my previous PC, a human Wild Magic Barbarian with chronic Eldest Daughter Syndrome) and Cass (my CoS PC, a very hot and very haunted cowboy).

Fanfic: I am a chronic non-poster of fanfic but I'm actively trying to change that, so please please bother me about it! I write mostly for Zelda, namely BotW and TotK, but I also have a handful of X-Men fics, as well as an ongoing Shane-centric Stardew Valley project.

ley rambles: my (often wordy) opinions about things
ley writes: not necessarily my writing, but talking about my writing
my writing: stories, blurbs, and other content I've written
not my writing: reblogs and creative writing that I liked, shared, and sometimes commented on
He misses the resistance of bone and muscle, the lighter weight of a dagger in each fist, something inside him ever-hungering for nightfall.
He doesn’t, however, miss the warm, wet splash of blood on his skin and clothes, nor the agonized wails of the dying that teeters far too close to human for his liking.
I want so badly to post snippets from the WIP I’m currently focusing my energy on, but I haven’t even managed to get a reasonable first draft on chapter one yet and so I must suffer until I have something sharable
I'm NB, Ace/Aro-Spec, and Autistic, and yes all of that comes up a lot in my writing
I almost exclusively write spec fic, mostly fantasy, horror, and fantasy-horror.
I write a lot of middle grade, but I also work in adult fiction as well.
I enjoy writing weird stories with humor and heart, strange characters, and lots of subverting/playing with various tropes.
Most of my works include body horror and/or emotional abuse as a theme, so be aware of that.
I'm down for following/supporting any fellow middle grade writers! I'm also interested in following fellow horror, fantasy, or weird fiction writers, and I'm especially drawn to stories written in a unique and/or unconventional format.
That being said, romance/erotica is not my scene. I support y'all from a distance, though.
