I've been seeing lots of love for the Miley Cyrus performance tonight with all the drag queens but I've also been seeing a lot of hatred. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to address this issue because I didn't know if it was worthy enough to address, but it's clearly been getting mixed reviews and I'm a writer so I figured why not? Tonight's performance, in my opinion, was absolutely beautiful. Not only did Miley Cyrus represent her Happy Hippie foundation, but for her performance, she had 30 very talented drag performers onstage with her and they put together this wonderful dance number. Basically what the whole controversy is, is some people seem to think that Miley used these queens and the rest of the community as a "prop". Being someone who has spoken to a couple of those drag queens you saw on that stage tonight and many other drag queens who work very hard at their craft, I can tell you that what Miley did was very special to these queens. What she did was give them what they've always dreamed of. She gave them a stage and a platform to share their art and show the world what they do best, which is perform. I can 100% guarantee that most (if not all) the queens that I've had the pleasure of talking to would have KILLED for that opportunity because it's their passion to perform. Seeing some of these queens who have performed so many times before go online after this performance when they got off that stage, and see them so lit up and filled with happiness, it literally makes my heart fill with love. This was an opportunity so many of these queens have worked so very hard for and some for a very long time. Please don't shoot that down and take that away from them. This community is just starting to gain some credibility and I feel that some of you might just be scared that more people will be paying attention. Let's not get this way. Please stop arguing about this. Let these performers have their moment that they've worked so hard to get. That's really all I have to say. Share if you agree!!! Xo
