“tik tok is brainrot I’m glad it’s getting deleted” YOU are ignoring an early warning sign of fascism bc silly dances and asmr annoys u. tik tok ban is a part of a MUCH bigger bill that indicates any foreign app, if deemed a threat, can be banned if the owner does not sell it. aka the government is mad bc they cannot censor & their capitalist puppet masters are mad they aren’t making money from it. and if ur ok w that……hm
I'm also pissed at the boomer-esque behavior of reducing it down to silly dances and asmr. tiktok is literally getting banned bc the algorithm is not in control of the us gov and they lost control of the narrative over palestine. that app has been one of the last, non us-censored platforms for spreading firsthand accounts of current events and finding direct from the source journalism. large amounts of gen z managed to organize, both during the blm protests and for palestine, bc of efforts on that app. countless palestinian families were able to reach out for aid and recieve support bc of that app. we're losing INCREDIBLE community resources with this ban, on top of ot being a frightening limitation on freedom of speech and our access to information. stubbornly calling ot a brainrot app so you can mock another generation for their trends is out of touch even before we get to the fascism of it all.
