✎: For an unsent letter from my muse (May be AU if you want, just let me know what kind of AU you want).
It had been a long war. Too long.
He had been a soldier, an enemy hostage. She, a mere nurse tending to his wounds, as the captain had ordered. They were enemies since the beginning.
How was she to have known that they would fall in love?
It had been late one evening as she checked over the wounds upon his chest. They had healed nicely, she noticed, as her slender fingers traced up and down the scars that had taken place of the bloody wounds. His green hues, almost the exact shade of her own sparkling orbs, watched her delicate features as she worked, finally removing the bandages, as there was no longer a need for them.
"You're very beautiful, Emelina." She looked at him in surprise, a blush coloring her lips.
"That wound must have made you delusional, Jushiro. Or maybe I should check your eyes as well."
"I think you should, honestly."
Her blush grew deeper as her gaze met his, hand searching distractedly for the instrument to check his eyes, though she was rather lost. He knew it as well, and rather than allow her to finish her examination, he entangled his fingers in her crimson locks, bringing her soft lips to his, taking her in to a tender kiss, wrapping his other arm around her waist, bringing her nearer to him.
They had spent the evening together, and she had smuggled him out that night; Emelina knew he would be killed before the war was over with, and she couldn't allow that to happen. Even if she knew she would never see him again, she would live happily knowing she had saved him from dead. He thanked her profusely before he left, placing another kiss upon her lips, with the promise he would find her again, taking her with him for the rest of her life. Soon after, he had disappeared into the night.
Immediately returning to her room, she began writing away at a letter she would send to him as soon as she could manage. She did not sleep that night, nor would she get any sleep again.
I couldn't fathom never meeting you. You've brought meaning to my life that I thought had none. I never imagined that I would fall in love, but again, you've changed that part of me. For the better. I would never change a thing about it.
Letting you go was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Not only because I may never see you again, but also because I could easily lose my life over this. But I don't care. Knowing you're alive is enough for me. That's enough for me to live a happy life. Knowing that I could save you is enough.
I hope you find this letter and know that I love you. My heart, body, and soul will never belong to another. Only you. I await for the day where we can be reunited again, when this damned war is over, we can run away. Run away from everyone. Just you and I. Forever.
The next morning, the division had discovered Jushiro's absence, searching everywhere for the ivory-haired man, though to no avail. They immediately took his caretaker from her job, ripping the letter from her grasp as she made to deliver it, taking from its envelope. Rage engulfed his features as he read her words, loading his rifle without another word. Aiming at her heart, a shot rung throughout the camp, closely followed by a second, Emelina's slender form crumpling to the ground in a heap, blood pouring from her lifeless form.
She never sent the letter.
