Behind The Wheel
âWhen youâre all grown up, you can drive me around town instead.â he says with his kind eyes, brimming with love for his little wildling. âReally!? Thank you Thank you Thank you!!â she squeaks till almost inaudible, her bright eyes wide with joy! Turning the steering wheel wildly, âyouâre gonna teach me how to drive right dad?â she asks him with innocent sincerity, all the while making weird engine noises and half laughing. âhaha!â amused at her efforts to steer the parked car, he loved the sound of her laughter. She stops and waits for his answer, wide eyed and curious gaze. Then through smiling lips, his gentle voice replies âof course I will my wildflower.â Overjoyed, she would wait for that day, everyday till it arrives. He kisses her head like he always does.
His loving eyes, his gentle voice, his smileâŠ
She smiles⊠bitter tears manage to break free from her closed eyes and begin their journey down. After so many years⊠It still wins sometimes.. The ache from his wanting departure⊠She would wait for that day, everyday till it arrives. But she knows it never will.
