Just before Christmas each year, the Choctaw NATION sends all its members a new Christmas ornament. The Choctaw converted to Christianity early, which is a large part of their culture now. This year it's the chapel at Tuska Homma. ( which means "red" ,"warrior" in Choctaw. Known as Tuskahoma). Tuskahoma is where the tribal government is located.

What a massive thigh! It appears my quest to become a powerlifting champion has been thwarted yet again. Fifty-plus pounds of weight loss does have an affect. This is why I have a hard time walking far or standing more than a few minutes at a time. But I will be stronger than ever. It'll just take some time.

This reminds me of grade school. Our teacher would pick two of us to get the milk and graham crackers and pass them out as a snack in the afternoon. It took two of us to carry the basket of milk, big strapping kids that we were. Always excited to do it because it broke up the monotony and got us away from the teacher for a few minutes. Fond memories.

Strawberry ice cream at 3:00 am? Perfectly legal from a hospital bed. My usual is a cup of strawberry and a cup of chocolate. Eaten together, of course, but chocolate was nowhere to be found. Just before I opened it a lullaby played over the hospital sound system signifying a baby was just delivered. I've heard that little tune twice tonight and I can't help but smile every time.

Feeling well enough to shave away the underbrush. If you lose as much weight as I have you certainly have to worry about a double chin.

Drinking two of these for a CT scan of my abdomen in a few hours. We'll have a good image of everything, which comes in handy at times. And if something is out of whack we can can go to work. But first, I must consume them. (at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith)

I lost a great deal of weight with the several recent hospital stays, bowel obstruction and surgery to correct. I can't walk more than 100 feet without stopping to rest. My abs are weak and a bit painful under physical stress. I've pulled a muscle or muscles in my mid back which causes intense pain if I make a wrong move, cough, sneeze, etc. But I couldn't help but count myself fortunate and blessed to have this view, just now. #theresalwaysbeautyforthosewholook (at Boston Mountain Range, Arkansas)

The smirk of a man on the mend. After all the surgeries, procedures, chemo, lightning attempting to turn me into a cooked dinner item, I must say this has been the most difficult. Easily. My surgeon told me I have recovered far better and quicker than most, but it was a beast. Every day I feel better. Individual sections of days improve. The morning is a tad ugly, generally. I improve a bit later, early afternoon. Later it wanes, and then comes a rebound that remains and I springboard from that point the next day. Why this occurs I have no idea, but I like the rhythm. Doctors and nurses have done enormous work getting me here and I can't say how much I appreciate it. Friends have prayed, gave me all the encouragement I could have asked for. My family, aunts, uncles, cousins, parents, my sister and brother have all been whatever I needed when I needed it. I had a talk with the King when this all started back in '13, promising to give it my all if he'd give me a shot. I can take a beating but without the others to kick me back on my feet for another round. Plus, I never allow myself to forget those I've met, read about, heard about who have handled more. There's always someone tougher, stronger, harder. It's those people we can gain so much from.
