Total Drama Series Episode Rankings: The Very Last Episode, Really
I was mainly waiting to post this until the review results for the TDI special were in so I could do a double post, but it seems the special will be given more review time due to the scarcity of reviews, so if you have something to say, you can do so here.
The review for the TDI season finale comes from Craze.
The Very Last Episode, Really Character Interactions [23/30] - I suppose they could've used more characters, but I think more would've just crammed the episode. We get Geoff/Izzy/Lindsay/Heather all working together to help Owen, Eva liking Gwen, a bit of comedy with Duncney. Overall, fairly satisfying. Drama [9/15] - Most of the drama was challenge-related, but this episode scores a few points for Gwent drama. Challenge [10/10] - Death-defying walk over shark-infested waters while eagles attack them? Yes please! While Gwen was always in the lead, they made sure Owen was fairly close behind. I expect nothing less from a finale. Overall winner arc/Winner [10/20] - It was clear that people loved happy-go-lucky Owen over dour Gwen. He made the connections that Gwen didn't. However, Owen was very much a side character comic relief for most of the season. He didn't even get much focus in the guy's alliance. I felt he could've had a better overall story. Also, it's kind of unbelievable that a fatass like him could win such a physical challenge. Certainly not the worst, but when compared with future winners, Owen's fairly lackluster. Overall Effect [10/20] - I didn't love the flow this episode. It was taken up completely by the challenge with Gwent haphazardly put in the middle. I think Gwen and Owen having no rivalry at all made the episode suffer. However, Owen's ending did at least make sense and gave a happy ending to everyone. 62/100 For a finale, I expect more. I felt this was a fairly lackluster wrap-up because there was no tension between Gwen and Owen. Certainly still watchable but it required supplemental characters to take the lead.
The episode received a score of 70.50. Not including the special, here are the current scores for the Total Drama Island episodes from highest to lowest.

Total Drama Series Episode Rankings: I Triple Dog Dare You
The review comes from icey.
TDI Episode 25: I Triple Dog Dare You This episode is ultimately a long build up to Heather getting her karma for the season, but it works very well overall. The challenges are a bit slow at the start but the lead in before the challenges with all the confessionals gives the F3 time to show where they are at this point in the game. It also contains what is probably the most iconic moment of TDI, Heather getting her head shaved and then being eliminated (sorry Lindsay, yours is number 2), which is very nicely executed. Character Interactions [18/20] â Gwen knowing how to talk Owen into helping her is one of the only particularly new interactions now that weâre down to three players. Heather and Gwen both want the other out, and Owen is pretty oblivious to the tension and just assumes he wonât win as revealed in the confessionals at the start. Heather also foreshadows Owenâs victory this episode by discussing his obscene eating habits at the start. However, since some of the interactions, like the taunting during the challenge, were getting a bit stale by this point, I took a few points off here. Challenge [18/20] â The montage compared to the number of freebies doesnât really line up, and Heatherâs decision to alternate her challenges to Owen and Gwen is a bit odd seeing as she should have tried to deplete Gwenâs stash (unless she just assumed Owen would give Gwen more). While the gross factor is quite high this episode, since itâs all animated, itâs tolerable, and the two montages in particular work to show a bunch of weird challenges that people completed. Giving Lindsay the last challenge is the perfect followup to her line as she left, so Iâm very happy with how it ended (even if it was again a bit unfair as Heather obviously would have said Chef could finish shaving her head if it meant staying in the game). Drama/Humor [27/30] The episode could have used just a bit more of both dimensions, but the confessionals at the start, alliance between Gwen and Owen, and the tension around the head shaving challenge work to put a good amount of drama in the episode. Similarly, Owenâs complete obliviousness in the confessionals is funny when juxtaposed with Heather and Gwen bashing the other and talking about the game, their banter during the challenge is good, and some of the challenge scenes are quite funny (like the hand puppet show and Owenâs reaction after it). Elimination [10/10] â Can I give this elimination over a 10? As much as I love Heather as a character, her getting burned by Lindsayâs dare is the perfect karma, especially since it was a cheap twist like what took out Lindsay. Sheâd probably have lost anyways with all the dares flying her way, so having her leave the way she did was pretty perfect. Overall Effect [20/20] â Itâs easily one of the most memorable episodes of TDI, and even with slightly slow pacing in a few parts, thatâs not the part of the episode that sticks with you. The challenge is entertaining enough and Heather getting shaved and eliminated is a satisfying end to her plotline. Penalties: Continuity Errors [-0] Nothing major Editing Errors [-0] Nothing major. There are a few inconsistencies with the freebies, but itâs pretty hard to notice unless youâre looking for it. Iceyâs Score 93/100 â This is episode is easily the top episode of TDI and one of the top episodes overall. Heather is one of the most iconic players of the first season and this episode provides an excellent closure to her storyline with fitting karma. Gwen is certainly lucky it wasnât actually a jury vote though as sheâd have been much better off taking Heather who everyone hated than the super popular Owen.
The episode ended up being the highest rated one yet with a score of 90.00.
Total Drama Series Episode Rankings: Are We There Yeti
Itâs a Craze review this time.
Also the episode I Triple Dog Dare You was given an extra day for reviewing, so that review will go up tomorrow while the review for the finale will be up Tuesday.
Are We There Yeti? Character Interactions [30/30] - Every one of them interacted with each other and had some great bonding experiences (especially Gwen and Heather, who managed to actually get along for once). Only downside was that the Heather/Duncan alliance only got a passing mention at the end. Drama/Humor [17/30] - Very light on the drama (you'd think there'd be more with Gwen and Heather being paired up). It gets a few points for great challenge drama and tension, though. Funny episode, though. Challenge [8/10] - Points off for basically a redux of Sucky Outdoors, but at least we got the guys vs. girls dynamic and they basically lampshaded that Chef was just trying to find a way to get rid of them so he could have a day off. It was also very back-and-forth and came down to a bunch of sticky buns. Elimination [5/10] - With two people getting invincibility, there wasn't much drama to go around. But they kept up the tension well. Still, there were no vote discussions (although Duncan is clearly a bigger threat so not much there). Overall Effect [15/20] - The episode had a clear plotline and had some great flow with flashes to Chef for some breaks in between, focused on Duncan/Owen and Heather/Gwen equally and even the "let's screw the other team over" montage was entertaining and went by fairly quickly. Elimination went by a little too fast though, and there was no downtime after or before the challenge. 75/100 Much like Geoff's boot, I didn't love it, but I also didn't find anything wrong with the episode. Fairly solid episode despite not having a lot to work with at the final 4.
The episode earned a score of 78.00
Total Drama Series Episode Rankings: Camp Castaways
Todayâs review comes from icey
TDI Episode 23: Camp Castaways Unless thereâs a compelling story to tell or itâs a two part episode, I donât particularly care for non-elimination episodes late in the merge, and this episode is no exception. As I said in my last review, Iâd have rather had the Playa des Losers segment be non-elimination and have an elimination here. Adding in Leshawna would have meant slightly less time for the other characters, but since much of the episode drags on, that wouldnât have been a bad thing. You could easily remove this episode from the series and change nothing (I guess Mr. Coconut wouldnât exist but whereâs the loss there?) Character Interactions [15/20] â Other than the bonding moment when everyone but Owen confesses a dark secret, we donât see much of interactions we havenât already seen. Gwen, Duncan, and Heather are all frustrated with everyone else and Owen still wants everyone to get along. Everyone does get some focus and have a unique plan for the island (Heather â just a challenge, Duncan â stay put so they find us, Gwen â find our way back, Owen â have a mental breakdown), which does earn it some points. Challenge [12/20] â Thereâs not really a clear challenge which leads to no elimination. While the scenes are funny and slowly push everyone back to camp, itâs not particularly compelling action. I do wonder if Gwen and Duncan would have won or lost had their raft made it to camp. Drama/Humor [20/30] The episode doesnât have any major drama other than wondering how theyâll get back to camp and watching the small feuds among the players who ultimately need to work together. Humor isnât too bad with great lines about Heather wanting to throw Owen to the sharks for being large and chewy (or something similar) and funny scenes like Owenâs quick degradation into insanity, him knocking out the snake, people asking if Owen knows Mr. Coconut is a fruit, and Duncan fumbling with his arrows. Elimination [2/10] â Since they had a ceremony, I think itâs fair to keep the elimination category (especially after reading plenty of fans that Mr. Coconut generated). With four marshmallows, thereâs immediately no tension, so it doesnât really succeed there. I guess it did effectively get rid of Mr. Coconut other than a few brief reappearances but thatâs about all it did. It was just more padding in an already padded episode. Overall Effect [5/20] â I think a five is pretty generous here. None of the character interactions really matter from this episode but we already knew the four characters well enough without it. The pacing is slow, and thereâs just nothing particularly interesting or memorable to tie the episode together. Penalties: Continuity Errors [-1] Owen complains heâs never kissed a girl, but he made out with Izzy in the serial killer challenge. Editing Errors [-0] Nothing major Iceyâs Score 53/100 â Iâm surprised this score came out as high as it did. Reasonable humor and good character focus saved this episode from a sub-50 score, but itâs certainly not one Iâd watch again and again. I think the main reason I remember it is itâs so blah compared to most of the late season episodes (although the next episode is still fairly average but leagues better from what I remember).
The episode received an average score of 62.00
Haute Camp-ture/After the Dock of Shame
The review is by Craze
Haute Camp-ture Character Interactions [15/30] - For an episode that had all 22 campers at their disposal (including the final 5), this episode featured a handful of them (Izzy, Courtney, Trent, Katie/Sadie, Noah and Lindsay) and gave everyone else maybe a handful of lines, if that. Drama/Humor [15/30] - This episode was very light on the drama (except Courtney vs. Harold) despite having 17 people who mostly hate each other. I suppose the end provided some drama. Not a lot of funny stuff (imo at least) either. Elimination/Twist [5/20] - The twist was unfair to begin with and while the elimination was dramatic, it was handled in an absolutely horrible way. Even saying someone's name counted as a vote against them? Wut? I suppose it was a unique twist? But there's a clear reason why it was never used again: it sucked. The only reason the twist was even dramatic is because every contestant suddenly lost about 100 IQ points and blew the vote. Overall Effect [0/20] - This episode was just full of filler and there was no real consistent storyline throughout the episode. Flashbacks were just interjected at random intervals to pad the episode. It was just absolutely awful and seemed to be cobbled together the night before. And then SURPRISE ELIMINATION because ... reasons? 35/100 I guess I expected more for an episode with no character restrictions and 22 minutes of nothing but character interactions to fill. It's nothing more than a glorified recap episode that I've judged as an elimination episode because they decided to tack on the BS elimination at the end. I didn't enjoy the episode at all and felt it really missed the mark. The episode also openly contradicts the idea that Heather is this huge threat to win. Chris also talks about how the contestants will be on the jury but... there doesn't end up being a jury. The summary of the unaired version of this episode sounded way more exciting and fitting for an episode this close to the finale.
The episode earned a score of 66.00 overall. Reviews for the current episode Camp Castaways can be found here

Trial by Tri-Armed Triathlon
I absolutely LOVE challenges that allow for a ton of character interaction and this one in particular more than any other forces them to do so. I also love that they waited until at least half of every romantic pairing has been eliminated before doing this challenge. This episode is a great example of how entertaining rivalries and platonic friendships can be to watch, and it was fun to see these characters interact with people they don't usually get to. My only problem with the challenge was that when they had all three couples in for the last challenge when two had already one. I feel like it maybe should have been a tiebreaker but I guess they wanted to keep with the whole "three" theme. :P (I know other people complain about there being too many heads in the final part of the challenge but I think it may have been to throw the contestants off. :P)
Also this episode is hilarious. I was giggling and laughing nearly constantly except for the emotional buts with Gwen and Geoff. The level of drama depends on what you consider as drama, but I say deliberately making contestants who specifically can't stand each other work together creates some good drama.
The elimination doesn't really add up vote-wise, unless Geoff voted for himself. With his reaction it seemed completely possible, but idk I'm still kinda iffy. I guess at least two people other than Geoff got votes, one being Heather and the other being idk who. The scene at the end does get it some points.
Contrary to what others seem to think, I see this as an important episode, if for nothing else but for setting up future Duncan/LeShawna interactions and being an important episode for character development for Gwen. She learns to let loose and open up a bit here which we see in later seasons (okay the TDI finale screws it up but the continuity in that episode sucks anyway :P).
Character Interactions: 20/20 (Great dynamics between the pairings and they all had a lot of time to interact.)
Challenge: 18/20 (Allowed for lots of character interaction and liked the twist on the traditional "three legged race" thing but like I said having all three couples compete in the final round didn't make a lot of sense.)
Drama: 11/15 (Not your typical "drama" but the tension between partners kept me hooked. And there was a fair amount of arguing which I guess counts as drama.)
Humor: 14/15 (Hilarious almost all the way through.)
Elimination/Reward: 7/10 (While it wasn't entirely clear why Geoff was leaving I did like the strategy they had for kicking him off and the scene played out wonderfully.)
Overall Effect: 20/20 (Because of everything I said above plus I get tears in my eyes every time I watch this one, partly because of the comedy and partly because Gwen's speech about herself on Boney island is very emotional to me.)
TOTAL: 90/100 (I was wondering whether or not this one would beat "Hook, Line, and Screamer" for me and it turns out they tied. :P Lol)
The episode earned an average score of 83.33, tying it with Thatâs off the Chain for the highest ranked episode spot.
Total Drama Series Episode Rankings: Wawanakwa Gone Wild
The review for this episode comes from Craze
Character Interactions [20/30] - Felt like there was much more individual play in this episode, with all the "here's why I should win" confessionals, but I feel those should count for something. They showed everyone's standing in the cast and what they thought of each other. Have to agree with Icey, thought it was weird that Heather was actually more helpful to others than Chris in this challenge. Duncan and Heather aligning was a great part of this episode. Drama/Humor [15/30] - Extremely funny episode, but completely devoid of any sort of drama. Challenge [3/10] - Decent challenge, I suppose. It seemed to be a bit short, leading to a weird episode where most of the time was taken up by confessionals. It led to some collaboration, at least. Elimination [7/10] - This elimination was explained far more than I remember, tbh. Mid-episode, we get "manipulative cow has been trying to get rid of me for weeks" and that the only thing saving Leshawna was immunity, implying that despite Heather being outed as a manipulative bitch, she still holds a lot of power on the Island. (makes a bit more sense when you think that Owen and Geoff are really the only ones there who seem to care about friendship while Heather, Gwen, Duncan and Leshawna are just there to win which we also saw throughout the episode). They even explained why Gwen was in the bottom 2 (sans invincibility, which I can only assume because this was a reward-based challenge). Geoff and Leshawna look bitterly at her display of food and Gwen chalks it up to jealousy. We can assume people voted for her because she got a big dinner all to herself. Points off for the same reason I took off for Sadie's: great set-up, but Heather speaking before the elimination just sucked out all the drama. Overall, still a less random elimination than I remembered. They even gave Heather a little more leverage by giving her an alliance with Duncan. And it's one of the few eliminations that gave both people in the bottom 2 a clear reason to go home. Overall Effect [15/20] - This was a rather odd episode, but it did a great job of spacing out the challenge and using strategic confessionals from contestants as padding. Elimination was a bit rushed. I think this episode also goes a long way for setting the tone for the final 6 castaways: a bunch of miserable people who are focused on the competition... and Owen (well, Geoff is fairly positive too, but he was also strategic). Everyone else's confessionals involve complaining or strategy, while Owen is just all "WOO HOO!" and thinks he's the second-least deserving to win. 60/100 Extremely average episode, tbh. Nothing really memorable about it and the elimination was filler. It was entertaining but very meh.
The episodeâs final score was 60.33. The current episode up for review is Trial by Tri-Armed Triathlon.
Total Drama Series Episode Rankings: Hook Line and Screamer
For this episode we have a review from Northstar
Hook, Line and Screamer's MVP - Gwen The girl took on a real escaped psycho! And she made him cry like a little baby! Go Team Gwen! 42 lines - Owen 39 lines - Gwen 21 lines - Duncan, Izzy 19 lines - DJ, Heather 6 lines - LeShawna 5 lines - Geoff Unique Interactions - 8 While I'm fine with the large focus on Gwen has the "horror movie protagonist" and Owen as a large source of comedic relief (as well as establishing his relationship with Izzy), I would have liked a little more focus on LeShawna and Geoff. Cutting maybe even 30 seconds of Gwen-time and Owen-time and giving them to Geoff and LeShawna, we would have had our first episode that gave every character equal focus. As it stands, LeShawna still got a good scene as she took on Chef, so Geoff is the only character that was really left with nothing to do here. As others have said, this episode is light on the drama and heavy on the drama. I also had forgotten how funny this episode was, so watching it was a real treat. There really isn't much to say aside from it being funny, as we don't really see any plots move forward. I have a few minor nitpicks though. Heather says that they have a challenge each week, when it was established that they had one every 3 days. And everyone seems fine with Heather despite the previous episode ending on a strong anti-Heather note. The only thing this episode REALLY does wrong though is the elimination. I was fine with DJ leaving, it just didn't make any sense. Even if it was because he had the worst performance so Chris auto-eliminated him, that doesn't make any sense. Chris specifically said Geoff's capture was the biggest blunder of the episode, so shouldn't Geoff have gone home? The humour largely makes up for whatever shortcomings this episode has, and earns this episode a 59, earning it a D. A LARGE part of that score is character interaction and humour, because I couldn't reward it for drama or lasting effect.
The episode earned a nice score of 78.50. Reviews for Wawanakwa Gone Wild can be found here.
Total Drama Series Episode Rankings: Thatâs Off the Chain
The review for Thatâs Off the Chain comes from icey.
TDI Episode 18: Thatâs Off the Chain Thatâs Off the Chain is another one of the incredibly iconic TDI episodes, and itâs one of my personal favorites even with its one glaring flaw. The challenge. While the challenge is entertaining, the way the elimination was decided was terrible. Having Lindsay leave due to Heather double crossing her was fine, but the challenge ultimately gave everyone no incentive to try and had even worse rules than Hide and Be Sneaky! However, Lindsay sells this episode and gets a very memorable elimination which helps to redeem the episode quite a bit. Character Interactions [18/20] â DJ does get his cowardly streak going this episode, but heâs still pretty forgettable while everyone else gets at least one major scene. We see the guys continue to rally (which, Iâll admit I had forgotten since it doesnât play out in votes again) and we see a bit of a friendship between Leshawna and Izzy. Of course, Iâd be remiss to not mention the most famous character interaction, the major fallout between Heather and Lindsay which ends in Lindsay finally realizing Heatherâs true colors and cursing her out! Challenge [10/20] â The challenge was entertaining, but, and this is a major failing of it, made immunity irrelevant. Everyone who didnât qualify for the final round was automatically immune, including Izzy and Leshawna who only built a bike/did nothing for the challenge. Since the challenge became sudden death, it would have been better to have all the bikes that failed compete in a final round after being rebuilt to actually reward those who did well. Thereâs no excuse for the challenge âtwistâ other than coming up with a unique way to get Lindsay out. The only part of the challenge twist that works is the technicality of people not actually finishing, and even then, itâs still kind of a cheap out to again, boot the second place finisher in the finale race while giving immunity to the 7 other players who couldnât qualify/finish? Since Heatherâs immunity was pointless, they probably should have given her a reward or something too to compensateâŠor just had a vote. It wouldnât be that hard to have the guys vote Lindsay out and have Heather be at fault in some way, or just have Lindsay realize Heatherâs true colors like Beth did. Drama/Humor [30/30] I donât see how an episode with Lindsay completely telling off Heather could not get high marks in drama, and the sudden death twist of the last race also amped up the tension. Humor is also quite good with the furry book, Leshawna not recognizing a pedal, Izzyâs crazy ride, and DJ being a coward. Again, Lindsay steals the show with lots of great lines about her bike, the ugly doll, and just being herself though. Elimination [7/10] â I hit the challenge pretty hard for the lousy way of determining the loser, but I felt it relevant to ding elimination for it a bit too. Otherwise, itâs a great elimination with a strong ending wish from Lindsay that Heather gets everything her karma owes her. Overall Effect [20/20] â This is one of the episode I remember most vividly from the first time I watched it, so it clearly made a strong impression. It has enough focus on the non-central characters while keeping Lindsay very central for her boot episode and does a nice job of foreshadowing too. Penalties: Continuity Errors [-0] Nothing major. It seems like Heather is excluding Izzy from the alliance already but maybe she just wanted to keep her plan to take apart the bike between Lindsay and her. Editing Errors [-1] Duncanâs bike has pedals at one point, but thatâs the only one I remember noticing. Iceyâs Score 84/100 â I wish I could give this episode more points but the challenge is just too much of a disaster. Still, itâs a strong episode and still earns a solid score from me and is one of the most iconic episodes from the first season. On an unrelated note I wasnât sure where to put, how does Lindsay somehow know how to build a bicycle but Leshawna canât figure it out? That seems like odd/bad writing. I could have handled Lindsay managing to take apart Chefâs bike, but building most of Heatherâs too?
The episode earned an average score of 87.50. It is currently the highest rated episode. Itâs still Super Sunday, meaning you can catch up on any previous reviews you missed and still review the current episode, Hook Line and Screamer.
Total Drama Series Episode Rankings: Hide and Be Sneaky
This Sunday will be another opportunity to catch up on reviews you may have missed before. Also the deadline for the premerge scoring arguments have been pushed back to next Saturday, so thereâs still a chance to put one of those in.
The review for Hide and Be Sneaky comes from Northstar
Hide and Be Sneaky's MVP - Izzy She didn't speak this episode, but Izzy was one of the characters who got the most screentime. She was just so on point all episode, and seeing Izzy mimic Chef as she stalked him made me kind of sad. This is the Izzy that I loved, not the ADHD psychopath from later seasons. Izzy was a weird girl, but she didn't become INSANE until later seasons. Also, we had her first ever battle with Chef in this episode! A recurring theme for the next four seasons (stupid All-Stars ruined the streak). 26 lines - Heather 23 lines - Duncan, Owen 17 lines - Lindsay 12 lines - Geoff 10 lines - Bridgette 9 lines - LeShawna 6 lines - DJ, Izzy 5 lines - Gwen Thanks to this challenge, this is the first episode where everyone gets a decent amount of screentime. The only problem I have is that this is an episode that probably should have focused more on Geoff, Duncan and Bridgette and it could have done without as much Heather/Lindsay. The build up to Heather's betrayal of Lindsay was nice, but Lindsay seems to be growing tired of Heather's crap... and yet that doesn't come up at all in the next episode. Unless the reason Lindsay wants to win herself is because Heather stole her drink and knocked over her nail polish? Anyway... I took Bridgette's elimination as Duncan testing Geoff's loyalty. It was kind of foreshadowed in the Brunch of Disgustingness, when Duncan got mad at Geoff for helping Bridgette (and thus the girls) win the first round. This isn't really explained in this episode though, which is why I thought we could have done with a bit more of Duncan/Geoff/Bridgette. If only removing one of Heather or Lindsay's confessionals and replacing it with Duncan talking about not trusting Geoff and Bridgette as a potential power couple. Aside from the formation of the Guys Alliance, this episode was fairly light on the drama. However, it made up for that with its humour. Lindsay and Owen in particular really shone in this episode, along with the aforementioned Izzy. I especially loved Lindsay's "Fooled you! This isn't even my bunk" and Owen blabbing about the alliance to Gwen. I realise Gwen told the girls about the alliance in this episode, but it would have been nice to see the girls mention it again in future episodes. Especially after Bridgette and Lindsay are gone, leaving the numbers even. In fact, that could have been used for justification of DJ's elimination... it still wouldn't have been great, but it would have been better than "you're a pussy so we all voted you out" I noticed a continuity error with this episode, also. Unless I'm mistaken, Izzy has voted with Heather and been considered part of their alliance in previous episodes, right? So why is Heather trying to convince Izzy to vote with her? Izzy's already in the alliance, right? I don't know, I just feel as though that scene would have served better in an earlier episode maybe, considering Heather randomly says Izzy is voting with her in Not Quite Famous without any build up to it. I'm giving this episode a 72, earning it a C
The episode earned an average score of 62.33. Reviews for Thatâs Off the Chain can be posted here, though only for a bit longer. The official review for Sunday will be Hook Line and Screamer
Total Drama Series Episode Rankings: Search and Do Not Destroy
Reviewer: icey
TDI Episode 16: Search and Do Not Destroy This episode is one that hits the drama factor very hard, but upon rewatching, it doesnât quite stand the test of time. Both Trent and Gwen should have been much more suspicious of Heatherâs set up, since, you know, Heather has made it her mission to torment Gwen? Also, it ends with Gwen saying that she and Trent are still okâŠand while sheâll mope that heâs gone, sheâs also back to angry the minute they reunite. I guess thatâs not this episodeâs fault. What is an issue for this episode is DJ, Duncan, and Bridgette are all horribly underused, Geoff gets a brief gag with the sewage and later cologne, and even Izzy and Owen barely get any screen time but get a bit more than the others thanks to their animals. Lindsay and Leshawna get some focus as key members of Heatherâs side and Gwenâs side, and then Heather/Gwen/Trent get most of the focus. The episode does deliver on humor, however, helping to boost it somewhat. Character Interactions [5/20] â The Lindsay/Izzy friendship is interestingâŠbut I donât think Izzy was ever formally in the alliance but randomly is this episode. However, itâs not really relevant here and she never votes with Heather again. Trent clearly should have been suspicious when Heather, Gwenâs nemesis, is telling him all the dirt on Gwen. Heather even read Gwenâs diary earlier, so unless Gwen was in on that plan, thereâd have been no reason for her to have faked liking Trent thereâŠ. Yeah, the whole plot doesnât work well. On the flip side, Gwen isnât at all suspicious to get a note from Trent telling her to meet himâŠonly to see him kissing her enemy? Yeah, Trent definitely would have written a note so you could catch him cheating. The whole plot to get Trent out here is just clumsily done and it eats up all the time other characters could have had to interact and develop. As I mentioned above, Izzy and Owen do get some funny scenes, but DJ, Bridgette, and Duncan are all pretty much non-entities which with two of them being nearly done and the last one being a final 4 player, all probably should have had more screen time. Leshawna has one of her more extreme revenge on Heather scenes with hooking up the sewage line to her shower (though why Heather doesn't just leave the shower instead of screaming I have no idea). Challenge [14/20] â The challenge is decent, although the pacing of how weâre supposed to believe characters did their challenges is completely illogical. Trent is able to find the sharks, get fish, and retrieve a clue AND help Gwen get her key from the skunks AND kiss Heather before Bridgette can find her rabbit for the first time despite no one else struggling to find their animal? Similarly, since all Duncan did was jump through a flaming hoop that should have been easy to find, that probably should have happened a bit earlier? They really just rushed through Gwen, Trent, Heather, Izzy, and Lindsay so they could be involved in the main plot and then just tacked the others on in my opinion. Also, DJâs results are never clear. It looks like he never tried opening chests/got a key, but he broke the branch with the key, so it should have been on the ground with him? (I guess I could have penalized goofs for that instead). Itâd probably have been more interesting to see Leshawna fight the crocodiles than the long Gwen/Trent crying/yelling scene really. Drama/Humor [30/30] As much as I complained about the execution of Gwen/Trent/Heather, thereâs no denying that itâs one of the more dramatic and memorable moments in the show. Thereâs not a ton of other drama outside of that, but itâs enough and has enough parts to carry the episode. Humor is also very strong with Owen and the bear, Izzyâs snake kisses, Lindsayâs animal magnetism (the bees, cockroaches, and birds), Geoffâs lines with the cologne, and Heather trying to get her key from Chef. Also, major points for the A Christmas Story lamp! Elimination [4/10] â We have a clear majority on this vote, so no complaints there, but again we donât have much suspense with Heather immune. I appreciate the irony of Duncan voting out Trent for kissing Heather as well and Gwen being so upset that her boyfriend kissed someone else though! It seems like, even though Gwen didnât, someone else should probably have questioned the situation along the line rather than just blindsiding Trent for kissing Heather too, but no one did. Itâs probably a good thing Chris just rushed through the ceremony as there wouldnât have been any tension. Itâs also the first of Heather getting a key immunity to justify her not getting eliminated but I didnât take off much for that as itâs still the first one and somewhat believable that she just got lucky here. Overall Effect [14/20] â The episode moves at a decent pace with a challenge that seems like it would lend itself well too everyone getting focus, though it doesnât really succeed there aside from everyone getting lines. Itâs also memorable for being one of Heatherâs big moves at the merge, but the episode just doesnât quite click for me, costing it points. Penalties: Continuity Errors [-0] None, other than Trent apparently forgetting everything he and Gwen has ever done and how Heather is sneaky and hates Gwen, but I destroyed Character Interaction for that. Editing Errors [-0] Nothing too major unless DJâs key is an error. Iceyâs Score 67/100 â This episode scored way higher than I expected, and thatâs due to the drama/humor category which gave it nearly half the points it earned. While it was a reasonable time to drop Trent, Iâd have rather seen Heather have a slightly more coherent plan, especially when her immunity was not assured at that point to really tie the episode together. Oh, and itâd be nice if everyone else actually got focus that wasnât in the central plot.
