Goomy Days || OPEN

Drasna had been cooped up in the Kalos E4 building for far too long. They'd suddenly had a random stream of challengers, which took the entire Kalos league by surprise. However, no one had managed to get past Malva, leaving the rest of them to sit around and wait just in case. It seemed that their wait was coming to an end, as they had just experienced two days without receiving word of a challenge.

Leaving the league building, Drasna traveled to Kalos' Route 14 to train a Trapinch she had recently acquired. The marshy area would put her Pokémon at a disadvantage, but it was much more fun that way. Trapinch was having a field day, splashing around like a small child running through a sprinkler. As she hiked up her skirt to pushed through the muddy water, she noticed a trainer struggling to catch a Goomy.

Elated to see someone attempting to catch a Dragon-type, she sloshed over to greet them. "Hello there! Would you like some help?"

"Oh please, I’m not the one doing the writing. I proofread for her. And I’m doing what the job calls for. Battling people who make it to the League." Breathing through his nose, Grimsley kept his face fairly indifferent. "And what, exactly, do you think I’m so apprehensive about?"

"Most likely the imminent death we all face. I'm sure you're well aware that even as powerful players, our bodies outside aren't going to survive indefinitely." Drasna half smiled, although it was definitely more cold than it was warm. "We don't really know how much time we have left; being antisocial isn't exactly the greatest idea. You should spend time with friends." She had a sneaking suspicion there was no one in this game he considered a friend, but continued nonetheless. "Or doing something productive at least."

Steven called out Nexus one more time, and this time, he didn’t immediately charge. Looking good.

"Nexus, after Noivern. Get ready to change directions fast. Go for a Zen Headbutt."

The beast rose into the sky after Noivern. The dragon lunged at Nexus, trying for a Super Fang, but this time, Nexus suddenly dropped, delivering his attack to Noivern’s underside. She recoiled, then flew a loop to get behind Nexus. She let out a roar and a gout of flame.

Nexus forced himself through the flame, and threw his fist into her face. His Meteor Mash knocked her back. Nexus flew after her, and while she recovered, grabbed her wing and dropped. Unable to free herself from Nexus’s steel grip, Noivern was pulled back down to the desert, slamming into the ground on her back. She struggled in his grip, and let out a pulse, but to no avail. Nexus hit her with Hammer Arm, and she was out.

"Good job Nexus!" Steven called as he ran to his pokemon. He looked at Drasna. "Well, you were right. We might need to practice some more, but I think we can do that on our own now."

Drasna recalled Noivern and dropped the PokéBall into her bag, clasping her hands behind her back. "I'm glad to see our training worked in the end. You'll have to keep practicing; he might fall back into his rebellious stage otherwise." Offering Steven a nod she approached Nexus, giving his large head a pat. "You did well Nexus, I'm quite proud of you." The large Pokémon let out a low grumble in response.

"Yes well, I'm sure my Pokémon would enjoy a rest after that battle. Nexus deserves a break too after that fantastic display." Drasna looked to Steven and shrugged nonchalantly. "And I suppose his trainer might deserve a rest as well."

"By all means, the rest of the world can do whatever they please. And the same way they don’t need to spend their days like I do, I don’t need to live up to any expectations you might hold either."

Straightening one of his cuffs, Grimsley resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “I haven’t been lucky enough to find anyone that’s captured my attention for very long. I’d rather not waste my time on anything uninteresting.”

Brushing off a lapel, he met Drasna’s eye before continuing. “And who said I enjoyed it? It’s just how I am.”

Drasna pursed her lips and titled her head up to look him in the eyes. "Being indifferent to your actions is no better than disliking them. Being a bitter and standoffish person is not how a person 'just is'; it's something they become because they refuse to confront their apprehensions." She rolled on the balls of her heel for a second before continuing in a low voice.

"Your scornful attitude towards, well ,everything is frankly unacceptable because you're only doing it out of laziness. You need to buckle down and actually doing something with yourself rather than hole yourself up in your E4 chamber and write depressing poetry, or whatever you do with that copious amount of time you spend by yourself."

Debating between wasting the rest of the day in the city or heading back to Unova, Grimsley was cut short in his mussing when Drasna burst out of the cafe and stopped his escape.

He briefly considered sidestepping and ignoring her but once she started chewing him out Grimsley sighed internally and prepared for a long talk. Her tirade against him was nothing new, and he listened through it with polite disinterest.

"Glad I could leave such a strong impression on you. But other arrogant men? I thought I was special."

Shrugging, he didn’t defend himself. Condescending? Probably. Supercilious? Sure. Pompous? Absolutely.

"Not sure what you were expecting, but the E4 aren’t a real golden bunch. But you don’t need to point out things I already know."

Drasna tapped her lips with her pointer finger and shook her head in bemusement. "Your jokes are hardly amusing. You're compensating for the lack of a real personality, I think. And trying to use the E4 as an excuse isn't going to work. Just because you prefer to live in your miserable little bubble of self pity doesn't mean the rest of the world feels compelled to follow suit." Tilting her head, she continued to speak with a seemingly friendly voice.

"In fact, I find it a little sad that you agree with me while not making any attempt to fix it. Perhaps you think yourself to be above the 'average' person and therefore enjoy being unforthcoming and overall insufferable." Drasna clasped her hands behind her back and frowned. "The thought of someone enjoying that sort of life is disturbing."

"Whatever makes you happy."

Rising from his seat, Grimsley gave a small nod to Drasna. “Well. I can’t see this conversation going anywhere. So I’ll be taking my leave.”

"Sorry to intrude on your lunch like this. Perhaps out next meeting will be one with more.. purpose."

Paying for his order, as well as slipping in enough to cover Drasna’s as well, he left the cafe.

Drasna offered her waitress a gracious nod as she quickly dolled out a generous tip. She turned on her heel and clicked her tongue as she chased after Grimsley. The thought of dropping the conversation flitted through her mind, but only momentarily. The young E4 member clearly needed a talking to. She slipped in front of him before he could stray too far from the café.

"I've met a few arrogant men in my life, but it'll be quite a journey to find someone so arrogant as to leave a conversation on a note like that." Her smile was innocent enough, but her cold tone made it clear that she wasn't going to let him walk off again. "I did say I reserved my judgement until necessary. Now I can state for a fact that you really are one of the most condescending, supercilious, and pompous members of the E4, although you prefer to wallow in self misery by closing yourself off from the rest of the group. Interesting, I was hoping I'd been wrong my initial observations had been wrong."

"Who says we control the game? We aren’t forcing our views on anyone." He was being more difficult than necessary, but Drasna’s vague answers were irritating. "No one else is doing anything, just assuming we’ll carry."

He’d snapped the last part out. Drumming his fingers on the table, Grimsley briefly considered apologizing. But seeing as the other already thought he was part of a “boisterous crowd of youngsters,” he quickly dropped the idea.

Instead, he raised an eyebrow at the her remark about the other elites. Picking at that he quipped, “I didn’t take you for a gossip. What else do you do? Besides snoop, dote and judge?”

Drasna raised an eyebrow but brushed off his curtness, ignoring the rude way he seemed to enjoy framing his questions. "We don't control the game, and I never suggested we did. But as the 'strongest' players in the game we do have a duty to make some attempt to protect other players." She put strongest in air quotes only because there were probably plenty of strong trainers that just never bothered to challenge the league.

"But I suppose watching out for others isn't everyone's cup of tea."

Drumming her fingers on the table for a moment, she spoke slowly as she answered Grimsley's next question. "I disagree with at least two of those. I don't snoop, I just observe. I've never dug around to find information. You'd be surprised what you could learn if you only paid attention." Resting her hands in her lap, Drasna continued. "And I don't judge as you suggested."

She titled her head and offered him a small smile. "I reserve judgement until I feel it's necessary. As for doting..." She shrugged and finished off her tea, "I suppose I can't argue with that one."

"Maybe, but it might have been because we were both close to…" Steven’s voice trailed off. He had about to say "death".

But why would a program even change based on that? It shouldn’t make a difference. But if they programmed it to have emotions, and act like an animal, at the very least, how is that different than the real thing for us stuck in here?

He cleared his throat. Maybe he wasn’t ready to believe that Pokemon in the game had emotions, but maybe it was time to start considering it.

"Maybe you’re right Drasna. It can’t hurt me to care for my Pokemon more than I have been. I am not ready to call this training finished yet though. I want to be sure. IS that okay with you?"

Steven looked at the pokeball in his hand. Although Nexus had pulled through for him this time, he wasn’t convinced that there had been a real change yet.

Drasna popped open Noivern's ball again. She looked around warily and landed next to her trainer, offering Steven a suspicious look. "Are you up for another round with Nexus, Noivern?" The bat Pokémon gave her trainer and disappointed look and sighed, but stretched out her wings to take off once again. Drasna chuckled as the Dragon-type circled around the pair before flapping her wings to keep herself hovering in place.

"She's getting sick of battling your brute of a Pokémon, but she'll survive." She gestured towards the PokéBall in Stevens hand. "One more battle, I'm sure he'll listen this time."

"Can’t argue with you about this being odd. It was a spur of the moment decision."

The waitress passed by again, dropping off a plate of checkerboard cookies. He winked in thanks, but otherwise left the food untouched.

"From what I’ve gathered from the summits, we take a kill count, bounce some ideas for breaking out and call it a day." Shrugging, Grimsley leaned back in his chair. "There are better ways to spend the day."

"But as for the bright lights, I do like things that shine."

Flicking his eyes up to meet her’s, he tentatively asked, “And if you don’t mind me asking. Seems like you keep tabs on me. Any particular reason?”

Drasna let out a small sigh and took another sip of tea. "The summits are more than that, but I suppose it's not my place to lecture you. It's not something we expected to be doing when we first entered the game." Grimsley wasn't the only one who didn't take the summits seriously. It wasn't exactly the most enthralling jobs an E4 position offered. She couldn't help but offer him a coy smile at question.

"Oh, it's not just you dear. I keep tabs on almost everyone in the E4. It's not for any particular reason..." Drasna trailed off. She was skeptical when it came to most E4 members. If someone had so much as a toe out of line she generally was the first to say something about it. "Well, you can never be too careful. This game has taken a toll on everyone." To cover up a frown she took another solemn sip of tea.

"Besides, you're all so young. Whoever thought it was a good idea to let such a boisterous crowd of youngsters control this game was crazy. i think some of you need a watchful eye to keep you out of trouble." Drasna let out a small laugh, although it sounded forced.

"Anyway, don't feel like I'm picking on you. I could give you the serious scoop on Malva. Aaron frequently piques my interest as well."

Steven knew Drasna had one more pokemon. She wouldn’t be stupid enough to attack him with everything she had. The problem was, he didn’t. He was down to his last pokemon, and even though Nexus was his strongest, it would be a big risk.

But this is the first time Nexus has actually paid you any mind! This could be the biggest breakthrough I’ve had yet! Is it worth risking my life for? Can I trust Nexus to win? He can’t get in the air fast enough to knock out Noivern.

Stevens thoughts were racing. He had no time to reason it out. He either had to win this now, or call back Nexus. The choice was obvious: call back Nexus.

"Nexus, Meteor Mash that boulder at Noivern!" Steven commanded.

Nexus slammed two of his claws into the boulder, sending it flying into the air. The boulder didn’t move anywhere near fast enough to be hard to dodge. Noivern cut off its attack to swoop around the rock, but was greeted with a steel scowl.

Nexus slammed into her with Zen Headbutt, knocking her away again, but this time he was ready. He flew after her, and grabbed her back and one of her wings, twisting it back before drawing back and delivering a Meteor Mash, sending her hurtling into the ground.

By the time Nexus returned to the ground, Steven already had a Full Restore out and was spraying him down. He placed his hand on Nexus’s side to steady himself, and realized he had been shaking. It had been a long time he had been that close to whiting out.

"Good job Nexus, you deserve a rest," He murmured and returned Nexus to his pokeball.

Noivern didn't stand a chance against that last Meteor Mash, fainting on impact. Drasna knelt next to her and pulled out a Hyper Potion, spraying her before returning her to her ball. She gave Nexus a small smile before Steven returned him, clasping her hands behind her back. "An excellent battle, it really got some adrenaline pumping into my system." The Steel-type didn't seem to be too worse for wear after Steven fixed him up with a Full Restore. "I think that battle set him on edge as well."

"Although I suppose the real question is whether or not he learned his lesson. I'm going to be honest, he's quite possibly the toughest Pokémon I've ever attempted to help train." She gave Steven a sly look. "You know Nexus may have gotten his hardheadedness from you. You believe me now don't you? The bond between trainer and Pokémon? I'm aware you were just amusing me before."

Drasna ran her fingers through her hair as she continued. "But I think you felt it that time. I know you think Pokémon are just a bunch of pixels that feel no emotion, but can you honestly tell me you didn't see Nexus panicking?" She put a finger to her lips contemplatively. "I suppose you still don't have to believe me. But I think Nexus is more likely to listen to you now. And I believe you might listen to him as well. A trainer is nothing without their Pokémon after all."

It didn’t come as a surprise when his Pokemon landed in the most obnoxiously lit city in the region. Avoiding the stadiums and most heavily crowded areas, Grimsley made his way towards the outskirts of the action, eventually finding a modestly busy row of buildings.

In no mood for food, he nonetheless entered a cafe. Might as well kill some time while he was here.

His entrance was punctuated by a sharp bell, and a few heads turned towards his direction. A few girls seated close to the door seemed to recognize him, and began to whisper excitedly among themselves.

Passing by the gossiping girls, Grimsley offered them a sly smile as he passed by. No harm in offering empty promises.

He’d made his way to the counter and was about to order when one of the patrons addressed him directly.

"Grimsley, is that you?"

Turning to see who’d called him, the first thing he noticed were unnecessarily large claws decorating the woman’s accessories. Coupled with a good natured smile, Grimsley had the slightest suspicion that she was Drasna, one of the oldest, and possibly most formidable member of the Elite Four.

Blindly stabbing at an item on the menu, he made his way over to the other Elite’s table.

"Fancy meeting you here. Unova’s a bit out of your way."

Pulling up a chair, he took a seat across from Drasna.

"Not that I’m not glad to see you of course."

Drasna raised her eyebrows and nodded. "Always a pleasure to see a fellow E4 member out and about." The waitress placed a cup of tea in front of Drasna, who nodded to send her off before taking a sip. "I enjoy coming to the Musical Theater from time to time. Occasionally they hold contests there as well. In my free time I'm a coordinator so any chance I get to see a contest, I take it." She shifted her gaze to the girls at the other table and shook her head.

"I hope you don't find this to be rude, but I find it a little odd to see you out and about like this." Drasna cocked her head to the side. "You rarely come to our E4 and Champion meetings, and we don't hold them that often. When you do come you seem rather...aloof." She ripped open a packet of sugar and absentmindedly stirred it into her tea. "Nimbasa City with the bright lights and busy streets." Tapping the spoon against the tea cup she placed it on the saucer. "It doesn't seem like your 'scene'." She put air quotes around the last word.

Taking another sip of her tea she waved her hand dismissively. "It's a rather intrusive question I suppose, you don't have to answer."

Shutting the book in his hand and listening to the soft puff of air escaping between the crisp pages, Grimsley set aside the latest addition to Shauntal’s growing collection of self authored literature. The characters seemed to vaguely resemble gym leaders from around the different regions. But it had to be coincidence. Either way, between the dim lighting in the room and the oddly descriptive scenes of copulation in the book, he needed frequent breaks to be able to skim through enough of the story to convince Shauntal that he had indeed actually read the book.

Picking up a few of the other pieces that she’d sent him, Grimsley stepped on the glowing green panel located a few feet from the couch he’d been lounging on for most of the day. No trainers had trickled in, so now seemed a good a time as any to finally return Shauntal’s work.

The outside light was blinding at first, and he had to shield himself with his hand before his eyes adjusted.

He opted out of hand delivering the books, settling for leaving them on the stairs that lead up to Shauntal’s room. That way he’d also be able to avoid the particularly racy content of the last few stories. Not that he minded the content. He just had an odd suspicion that the title character was more or less based of him. A problem for another day.

It had been a few weeks since he’d last left the League, and seeing as he’d made it this far outside, he might as well visit the region while he was at it. Tossing out his Honchkrow, he greeted the dark bird with a nod. “Take me wherever.”

Seeing as no one had been particularly interested in challenging the Kalos E4 as of late; Drasna took an unannounced vacation to Unova. She rarely got a chance to visit Nimbasa Cities Musical Theater so any excuse to go was fine with her. After fawning over a Wooper in a dress (the little trainer girl clearly put a lot of heart and soul into the stichwork, the pastel flowers went harmoniously with the neon polka dots) at the end of the play she finally made her way outside.

It was nearly lunch, and Drasna wanted to check out one of the small cafés that surrounded the main attractions. After seating herself and ordering a light lunch she drifted off momentarily, planning out the training regimen for the next Pokémon contest she would be attending. The bell on the cafés door rung, and the sound snatched her attention. A rather gloomy looking young man slunk into the café. Some girls nearby chittered, giggling and elbowing each other.

He looked vaguely familiar. Something about his pants...they were awful pants really. Almost as if he were trying to emulate the look like a Greninja, but not fully committing to it. But really the colors reminded her of roulette boards at casinos. Ah! Of course, how could I forget. Who else would wear such conflicting colors.

"Grimsley, is that you?"

Drasna!

"Nexus, Noivern! Icarus, protect! Block thunderbolt! Dozer, Metal Burst! Lyse, use Confuse Ray on Altaria. Cuttles, Metal Claw!"

Every command was clipped. Every word was out of his mouth as soon as he could think it.

Nexus took the Air Slash and blasted through it to attack Noivern. Icarus took the brunt of the attack, then flew forward to deliver a Steel Wing. Dozer had most of his health depleted by Druddigon, making Metal Burst powerful enough to take him out. Dozer was in no condition to continue battling after that hit.

Cuttles’ attack knocked Altaria off of Drasna’s arm. The two fossil pokemon took up positions on either side of the dragon. Now Steven had a little more time to think things through.

Dozer and Druddigon are both out. Nexus can hold his own for a while agains Noivern. Lyse and Cuttles are the ones who’ll need the most instruction here. But the point of this is to get Nexus to listen. He hasn’t caught Noivern yet. Let’s change targets.

"Icarus, Steel Wing on Noivern. Nexus, I need you to take on Altaria. Cuttles, Ancient Power on Dragalge, Lyse, confuse him too!"

Now we see if Nexus is going to listen.

Dragalge barely hung on through Ancient Power, but managed to power through Confusion and hit the fossil Pokémon with Surf. The giant wave knocked them back long enough for Dragalge to hit them both with Dragon Pulse as well. Confusion finally got the best of her and she fainted, Drasna quickly returned the Pokémon to her ball before examining the scene.

Nexus was barreling towards Altaria, who was busy fluffing herself up with Cotton Guard again. Noivern turned her attention to the Lileep and Anorith, both of whom were drunkingly moving across the battle field to help Nexus. She put them out of their misery with another dose of Dragon Pulse. Nexus, who apparently realized the gravity of the situation, listened to Steven for once and crashed into Altaria with Zen Headbutt.

Altaria croaked weakly and hit the Metagross with a weak Moonblast, dealing only a small amount of damage. Nexus spent no time on ending her with another round of Zen Headbutt. Drasna and Steven were both down to their last, and most powerful, Pokémon. Noivern eyed Nexus cautiously and glanced at her trainer. Nexus appeared to be readying himself to take to the air like in previous battled but hesitated.

He looked towards Steven before stamping his large feet into the ground and blasting Noivern with Meteor Mash. Noivern held on and dived towards Nexus to half his HP with Super Fang before hitting him with Dragon Pulse on her way back up. Both of the Pokémon were on their last leg; Nexus took a step back and looked back at his trainer for direction, a desperate look in his eyes when he realized Drasna wasn't going to back down.

I'll let him knock out Noivern, he at least seems to understand that he's not going to get out of this one unscathed. She nodded towards Noivern, who pretended to be working up one last Flamethrower to end it.

The next morning, Steven woke later than he had wanted, forcing him to rush to the the desert without time to eat. He didn’t know about flight etiquette in Kalos, but after getting a few nasty remarks from locals as he took off outside of the Hotel Richissime, he decided it wasn’t polite to take off in the middle of the city.

Steven landed in the clearing they had begun their training the day before. There were no scars from their battles. Only sand, wind and rocks. Taking shelter from the sun in the shade of a boulder, he scanned the area. No signs of Drasna. No signs of anyone. Only him and the howl of the wind.

Five minutes trudged away into the wind, then ten, then fifteen.

Still no Drasna… No reason to stand around doing nothing.

Without further ceremony, he released Dozer, Icarus, Lyse and Cuttles. The Lileep had grown more Steady on his feet since being revived, and anorith calmed somewhat. Both needed training. After, a few moments of hesitation, Steven released Nexus as well. Perhaps for once he would be able to trust him.

Drasna had only gathered one piece of relevant information from training Nexus yesterday, and that was the Metagross only listened when he was desperate and in serious trouble. If that's the case then the only thing she could do was fling him into trouble immediately and hope things would turn out as planned. She felt awful for being so tardy, but she felt the only way her plan could work was if everyone was surprised.

Figuring she had kept Steven waiting long enough she released Noivern and and hopped on her back. The pair soared across the seemingly endless desert before making the descent as Stevens silhouette appeared in the distance. It appeared he had let all his Pokémon out already. Drasna opened up her menu to pull out the PokéBalls for the other three members of her team. Clicking open all three at the same time, the Pokémon dropped to the ground near Steven's Skarmory and Lileep.

Noivern swooped down, letting Drasna drop a few feet to the ground. She straightened out her skirt and held out her arm for Altaria to perch upon.

"It appears I'm a bit late. I suppose I should get this show on the road then." Without another word she simply extended her free arm and pointed towards Steven's Pokémon. Her four Pokémon immediately cross crossed paths and began their attack.

Druddigon hit Aggron with Revenge, while Dragalge hit Lileep with Thunderbolt. Altaria was fluffing herself up with Cotton Guard to prepare her own onslaught, as Noivern came down on Anorith with Air Slash.

"I suppose you are right. exhausting ourselves on the first day will help nothing."

Steven sighed. He was impatient to get his pokemon under control, but he could not deny that if they went at it too hard, they would both burn out. In the meantime, he could spend his time in Kalos working on building connections for the Devon Corporation. It would at least make up for some of the time he was otherwise losing.

Steven stopped himself. It would be rude of him to leave Drasna, but he wasn’t sure if she meant to go her own way now either. He did enjoy her company, but he couldn’t afford to pass up the opportunities that being in Kalos provided.

"I hope you don’t mind if we part ways here for today, and meet again tomorrow?"

Drasna shook her head and gestured for him to move along. "Not at all. I assume you don't get to stray from Hoenn very often; go ahead and explore. We can meet by the Power Plant again tomorrow, say noon?" She waved her hand and offered Steven a small smile. "Don't have too much fun. Kalos night life can be...interesting."

With that vague statement, Dransa gave Steven a nod and another wave before turning to head back to her own apartment. She was going to have to come up with a serious plan to whip Steven's Metagross into shape. Never had she ever come across such a hard case, and there didn't seem to be a way to break the Pokémon. It couldn't all be the Pokémon; she had a sneaking suspicion that Steven might have a part in this problem.

Steven scanned the selection of mega stones, ignoring the labels and just enjoying their beauty, Each perfect sphere seemed to glow with an inner radiance, and their colors were more vibrant than any he had ever seen. His eyes stopped on a blue stone, with silver and gold swirls passing through it.

That one.

He continued looking them over before returning his eyes to the blue stone again and reading its label. Metagrossite. He knew Dozer could mega evolve, but he didn’t see a similar stone in the selection. He gave himself a few mote moments to appreciate the mega stones before telling the player he had made his selection. He unlocked the case, a pulled out the metagrossite, dropping it into a small velvet pouch before handing it to Steven.

He brought it out to the main counter, and made his purchase. Before collecting Drasna to leave.

"Are we you ready for another round of training, or are we done for the day?"

Drasna strolled through the aisles, stopping occasionally to give the Garchompite a cursory glance. She hadn't bothered to battle with her Gible, she much preferred it as a companion Pokemon. Still, the thought of a mega Garchomp was tempting. She occasionally looked to Steven, whose eyes were wide as he looked over the stones. Eventually he picked out the Metagrossite and returned to her.

"I think it's best to take a break. Training is just as hard on the trainers as it is the Pokémon." She gave the clerk a small wave before exiting the store. "But I think we're getting somewhere with Nexus." The Metagross was much harder to break than he originally anticipated. She'd never seen such an aggressive Pokémon. "A good dinner and a full nights rest is what we all need I think."

Steven nearly laughed at Drasna’s “love between a trainer and Pokemon” comment, but he could see she was serious. These creatures were the product of a programmer. They could be carried around on a flash drive. It wasn’t anything that spectacular.

The shop they were headed to wasn’t anything that spectacular from the outside either. A sign read Stone Emporium, the display in the window only showing off a couple of evolution stones, and some worthless quartz-like crystals. In truth, Steven thought the store looked uninteresting from the outside.

Inside, however, was a different matter. Shelves were lined with items, some full sized, some in cases that could be carried. There was a row of geodes of various sizes, one of different kinds of opal and bismuth. impossible chunks of rubies, sapphires and emeralds. One shelf held boxes with pictures of stalagmites and stalactites, a few boulders. You could buy a cave and carry it in your pocket.

Steven had to struggle to keep his composure and not run to the displays. There were so many things here he could add to his collection! He could have his own personal stalactites in his home!.

Not now! You’re here on business Steven! Souvenirs can wait until later.

"It seems like they’re more in the business of decorative stones here. Are you sure this is the right place?"

"Quite sure." Drasna swept past Steven and made her way to the front desk; she exchanged a few quick words with the player who was working it and returned shortly after. "We'll have to wait a moment or two for them to get it ready. They can't leave such valuable stones laying around as I'm sure you understand." She had noticed Steven eyeing the glittering rocks around them and covered her mouth to conceal a smile.

"I don't see the harm in picking up one or two superfluous souvenirs. After all, what's the point in coming to the stone capital region without grabbing a few sparkling gems?" Drasna didn't have much of a reason to purchase stones herself, but occasionally she perused their collection when she had spare time.

The player manning the desk opened up a door in the back of the room and gestured for the pair to follow him. He led them into a room lined with the rarer stones of Kalos; several of them were behind locked cases. Drasna folded her hands behind her back and nodded at Steven. "Go at it then."
