Your name is TEAM POCKET GRUNT FREDDIE and you have recently left your native region of Hoenn to a)rid the world at large of evildoers and b)hug every Purugly. Mostly this has led to your getting lost in department stores and wearing incredibly rubbish disguises. You enjoy investigating sinister goings-on, raising baby dragons, using bite moves, calling Steven Stone's answering machine at three a.m., and filling your bag with items that sound like MacGuffins rejected by Doctor Strange on grounds of insufficient alliterative quality. You do not enjoy Zubats. This is even more detrimental to the credibility of your grunt disguise than the missing leg on your R. This is your Pokémon appreciation blog. It is not a roleplay blog; you just felt like writing a taurosmanure bio.
A: No, I'm back in my own apartment where I haven't yet figured out the wireless and I have played, read, or watched precisely nothing since we last spoke, just Pokéwalkered a lot. I'll ... get back on it ... sometime.
I think the number of times I have said 'such-and-such is my favourite bit character ever' is ... very high, but
SERIOUSLY
RANDOM BRITISH GRUNT IS MY FAVOURITE BIT CHARACTER EVER.
As Kate and I were sitting on our habitual doorstep outside the theatre last night (yes, I take my Sneasel to the theatre) (if I could draw this is where you would see an excellent cartoon of us inelegantly draping ourselves over a balcony and picking up berries dropped by better-seated people) watching people watch people, a car passed by that brightly instructed me to
VISIT CYPRUS
The P was promptly overlooked and the car interpreted as an invitation to the Distortion World. I realised my mistake a second later, only to find that following after Cyrus' car was one that had 'Jupiter' printed on it.
V. v. mysterious.
I gave Fabien the Piplup to Ruin Maniac Jane to babysit in Johto while I am abroad ... and promptly restarted my Platinum game with Turtwig.
IT WAS A GOOD CHOICE. Lovely though it will be to get Fabien back in two weeks and make him A SUPER CONTEST STAR!!, Turtwig is the battlin' starter for me.
I (also gave her Melania the Starly and) had to say goodbye to Arthur the Shinx and Ebooks the Ponyta, but they shall find more than worthy replacements in due time.
rumbustious replied to your post: (this is not a Wagner-promoting post)
i never noticed that the siegfried article talks about how cool and beloved he is
I never noticed that the Siegfried article talks about every single thing you could conceivably talk about, including the shape of the pillars in his room.
(Re: his coolness and popularity, I ... am not actually sure where they got that? Or if we're even talking in-universe. I don't recall an especial lot of people gushing over him [read: one]. You know, as opposed to musing about his cape-purchasing addiction, referring to him as a "bleeding heart", or describing him as a muttering conspiracy theorist.)
I like the way he uses the simple past. Ich hörte einige Gerüchte. Der Junge, auf den ich traf. Not a lot of people do that in German. (I mean, maybe they do in video games, but I am going to pretend it's Lance Being Lance.)
Also note that they s-lightly changed his "LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT DRAGONS!!!" spiel to include an explicit reassurance that dragon taming and raising is "worth the effort" (where in English he just says "... but their powers are superior", which could imply either a. the same or b. that only ~inherently talented people~ can accomplish their dragons' full potential, which would be a silly thing to communicate but also kind of in line with the ritualistic exclusivity thing his family has going on).
Ruin Maniac Jane: this woman on the radio talking about wagner
Ruin Maniac Jane: gods, goddesses, DRAGONS, love, sex, battles!
Team Pocket Grunt: dragons comes before love, sex, battles
Ruin Maniac Jane: she did indeed emphasise DRAGONS in a very excited tone
[...]
Team Pocket Grunt: the dragon is a bass
Team Pocket Grunt: Alberich warns the dragon that a hero is coming to fight him, and offers to prevent the fight in return for the Ring. Fafner dismisses the threat, declines Alberich's offer, and returns to sleep.
Team Pocket Grunt: dragons
Ruin Maniac Jane: they wake up, say 'pffff whatever' and go back to sleep
Team Pocket Grunt: you know what i am just realising that this universe does work kind of like pokemon
Team Pocket Grunt: only with stabbing
Team Pocket Grunt: At daybreak, Siegfried and Mime arrive. Mime decides to draw back while Siegfried confronts the dragon. As Siegfried waits for the dragon to appear, he notices a woodbird in a tree. Befriending it, he attempts to mimic the bird's song using a reed pipe, but is unsuccessful. He then plays a tune on his horn, which brings Fafner out of his cave.
Ruin Maniac Jane: i am picturing mime as a mr. mime
Ruin Maniac Jane: and siegfried as... siegfried*
Team Pocket Grunt: befriending a pidgey**
Ruin Maniac Jane: you have to play the pokeflute to wake up the dragon
*This entry includes an entire paragraph on the evolution of Lance's hair colour. German thoroughness, I suppose. (They also point out that his outfit 'grows more majestic with every generation'.)
**Possibly actually a ... Swablu? I'm not seeing a Pidgey as a soprano. I do not intend to pursue this line of thought any further, though, given, you know, the fact that Siegfried slays the dragon >:\
So Giovanni only has Persian in three continuities, right? The show*, Pokewake, and the card game? I was surprised he didn’t have one in HGSS. Surprised no one discussed his team. But then people were too busy insisting that he killed himself (someone wanna explain to me where that comes from? Because I played the scene and the only way that would have been possible would be if both the player character and your friend are uncaring sociopaths who stand idlly by and make dry comments after witnessing such a thing). Anyway there needs to be more Persian. Surprised one hasn’t popped up in Special yet. I mean, he has a Beedrill in that so they’re not too concerned about sticking with his in-game team.
*also in Electric Tale but that’s because of the show.
He repeatedly uses one in Yellow*! Perhaps he retired it from battling by the time Gen IV rolls around and bequeathed it his best armchair. Or maybe he just decided that cat-petting villains are so last century to begin with (unlike giant birds) (giant birds never go out of fashion). There are Persian statues in the Mahogany hideout in HGSS, and since no other Rocket in gameverse uses Persian (whereas Special introduces Sird's), it seems plausible that they're in reference to/in memory of his.
Still, more villain!cats would be an improvement on any 'verse :3
*Also because of the show, though, but the PC is still implicitly the Red that took on Team Rocket and dotdotdots on Mt Silver - arguably even more so than the PC of R/G/B, since his Pikachu is presumably his starter - so it still qualifies as part of the same continuity ... right?
And here they are!
(Also, I used your pink space pig fairy and the Brazilian aquamouse to breed a Cleffa. I am becoming a connoisseur of babies after all.)
I got a Marill from Brazil! I really wanted a Mediterranean Marill but all the Mediterranean Marill trainers were asking for l. 100 Pokémon in exchange.
