“I don’t mind at all! My team is flying out so I’m all alone too- I was hoping someone would join me.” She flashed a smile. “Penelope Garcia.” Offering her hand over the table to the other woman, pleased for the company. She didn’t mind being alone, but company at work was always better.

She returned her smile and took her hand. “Great! Cadance Washington but almost everyone calls me Cady.” She took a sip of her water. “You are part of the BAU aren’t you? A tech analyst, right? You’re kind of a legend.”

Chewing on her bottom lip for a moment, Emily let out a quiet sigh. “I guess I really should tell her, shouldn’t I?” she mused, frowning slightly. “She just… She never really approves of anything I do, I can’t imagine her being too happy about my boss getting me pregnant. Or the fact that I’m making her a grandmother, for that matter.”

Cadance raised her eyebrows in shock. “She won’t be happy about being a grandmother? God, can I have your mom? Babies and marriage are all the mine ask me for. Oh Cady, I know you love your job but you and your father made me so happy.” She mocked her mom’s voice quietly.

It was an ordinary day at the BAU for Spencer. The only difference was that they didn’t actually have an active case, which meant that Spencer had a lot of free time on his hands. He used this time to work on a paper he’d been writing, occasionally taking a break to read a book. He glanced up to rest his eyes at one point, seeing a familiar woman walking through the doors of the BAU. He offered her a smile and a soft wave, mind racing as he tried to place her. He’d seen her before, worked with her before. But where?

Cadance waved back at him as she crossed the floor to say hi. She recognized a look of confusion “Hello Dr. Reid. You may not remember me, I’m Dr. Cadance Washington” She smiled slyly at him. It wasn’t usual for her to feel reserved but the last time she walked this floor was entirely different. She’d been led to a room after EMS cleared her of injuries to meet her parents in an office. She wrapped an arm around her middle holding her dangling arm with her hand. “How are you doing?”

“No, of course not,” Emily assured her with a gentle smile, shaking her head. “Just kind of restless. I think I overdid it on the caffeine,” she admitted with a little laugh and a slightly guilty look.

Cadance laughed at her statement. “I did kind of encourage that so I will take partial blame for that.” She smiled to herself as they drove.  The good thing is the is close to almost everything so they would be there soon. “What kind of music do you like?” She gestured to to the radio.

emilyprentxss Climbing into the car and buckling her seat belt, Emily looked over at Cadance again when she heard her speak, her smile not fading for a moment. “That sounds great,” she admitted, fidgeting absently with the hem of her sleeve as she spoke.

Cadance glanced over at Emily for a moment and noticed her nervous habit. “Emily, are you worried about something?” She asked with concern dripping in her voice.

“I brought you a coffee,” Alex stated simply as she walked up to the woman and handed over the drink. “I thought you could use it.” All of them could, frankly. Coffee was a lifesaver when you worked for the FBI.

She took the coffee gratefully, taking a savoring sip and closing her eyes before she replied. “Oh thank you.” Cadance smiled at her. “I don’t know when I slept last. Do you?”

“Then you’ll be glad to know that it’s upstairs in the safe,” Emily laughed quietly. “There are rare occasions when I leave it here,” she admitted, not mentioning how not having it always gave her that annoying feeling like she was forgetting something important.

“Yes, I’m more than ready,” she replied with a bright smile, taking Cadance’s hand and stepping outside, quickly turning to lock the door behind her.

Cadance led her to her car and opened the passenger side door. She ran around and jumped into the other side. “Okay so I thought that I would take you to the Wildlife Viewing Area on the base. It was my favorite place growing up. There are always these beautiful birds and butterflies.” She told her as they drove. “

“I’m alright, save for the severe jet lag. Schedule’s been insane lately,” Taissa responded with a small smile before dismissing the topic. She wasn’t here to talk about herself. Shifting the stack in her arms, she regarded Cadance curiously. “Are you still working on that same case you last texted me about?”

She’d forgotten that she told her friend about the case. “Yeah...” Cadance admitted looking down at her hands. “It got pretty rough in the field.” She stared at her palms afraid to look up. “I may get suspended.”

“Well, I’m not going to object to extra time,” Emily replied, smiling brightly once again. Her cheeks turned slightly pink at the compliment, and for a moment she shyly averted her gaze. “Th-thanks,” she stammered, looking up again. “You do too.”

She smiled once more, reaching into her bag to pull out her badge. “I don’t think I ever go anywhere without it anymore,” she admitted. “Same with my gun…Although thankfully I usually don’t need it when I’m not working,” she added with a quiet laugh. “Yeah, a picnic is great.”

“You don’t need your gun where we’re going, at least I hope not because that would mean something really bad has happened...” Cady said trying not to think about that scenario.

“Anyway! Happy things are happening today.” She smiled at held her hand to Emily. “Are you ready to go?” Cadance felt captivated by the woman standing in front of her, she couldn’t wait to get started.

Continuing to drink coffee throughout the morning, Emily did the laundry and took a quick shower before suddenly realising that she had no idea what Cadance had in mind, let alone how she should dress. After a moment of worrying about it, she pulled on a simple dress, quickly checking her appearance in the mirror and fixing her hair before going downstairs.

She paced restlessly back and forth while she waited, chewing nervously on her bottom lip. Emily nearly jumped when she heard a knock on the door, a bright smile crossing her lips as she pulled it open. “Hey,” she greeted the other woman, automatically glancing at her watch. “You’re two minutes early, you know,” she pointed out with a playful smirk. “Not that I’m complaining,” she added.

She looked at her watch. “I guess I just wanted all the extra time with you that I could get.” Cadance grinned. “You look amazing, Em.” She couldn’t take her eyes off of her. She began to wonder how she so lucky to be here right now.

“Oh you’ll want to bring your creds...”She made a face that she was hoping would thoroughly confuse her. “Actually.. you probably won’t need them but better safe than sorry.” Cadance giggled. “I planned a picnic, I hope that’s okay.”

Cadance called a cab outside of Emily’s home. She had to go back to the bar to retrieve her own car first. The entire time, she couldn’t stop smiling. She’d never guessed this time of the day yesterday that she would be preparing for a date.

At home she showered and curled her hair. She carefully applied make up that she would have normally ignored. Then counted down the hours until she could leave and go back to her. 11:45 am she left her apartment and told herself not to speed.

She knocked on the front door and waited.

“Fair enough,” Emily laughed softly, glancing shyly away for a moment when Cadance pulled her closer. She gently returned the kiss, her cheeks growing slightly pink again. “O-of course it’s okay,” she replied quickly, a small smile settling on her lips again.

Cadance grinned and kissed her one more time. “Okay I’m going. Finish that pot and I’ll be back soon.” She nodded to coffee pot. “Bye, Emily.”

“Yeah, but the sooner you leave…the sooner you leave…” Emily pointed out, a slight pout forming on her lips for a brief moment. “Noon sounds good,” she laughed quietly, a small nod accompanying her words. “I’ll make sure to have lots more coffee by then…So I’ll actually be awake and all…”

“That is something that I am willing to do in order to make today magically.” Cadance giggled. “But I don’t want to leave.” She pulled Emily closer. “Drink as much coffee as you want.” She kissed lightly. “I’ve wanted to that all morning. I hope it’s okay.”
