“oh! i’m sorry, i thought…” she trails off, biting her lip. there are plenty of different people in this city (naturally, she’s one of them) but she had assumed the person she offered her drink to was in some kind of elaborate costume. “having to live without coffee must be, um–just fine, i’m sure!” karolina says brightly. it wasn’t as if he could do anything about it, best not to rub it in. carefully, she hands the cup over, making sure not to spill a single drop on him. “it’s your friend’s lucky day.”
“you can SAY it,” he says, arms dropping to his side. he’s gone all the way here to get winston a treat, — something that his friend and comrade DESERVES after all the hard work he’s pulled through — and he’s not going to spend his time lamenting over how he can’t digest any of it. “i’ll LIVE.” that’s all he’s ever done, isn’t it? he lives. he survives. he accepts who he is and finds his purpose in his life. never mind not being able to drink coffee. he wraps a hand around the paper cup, nodding his head at the girl. then, he digs into his pocket and pulls out a bunch of change, adding, “i’m in line already. consider it a favour returned.”
