Okay, so in the New Scientist article they mention this theory that in the study they refer to the AI may have written the short stories in a 'simpler' manner than human authors, making them more easy to comprehend and thus perhaps preferable (to the reader) compared to short stories written by human authors. But even if that were true, it appears that readers are no longer able to tell AI generated stories apart from those generated by human authors.

Imho we -- that is to say, humanity -- are rapidly moving to a place where we should never have gone, and it appears to be almost unavoidable the way things are going.

This holds for fields such as literature, movies, music, art and even math and science.

The argument that AI produces low quality content and never will be creative is expressing a (somewhat desperate) hope at best.

So, where is this going? Are we going to turn into mere consumers of AI-generated content in all of the fields mentioned above, in the long run? I fear that at this point that cannot be ruled out.
